I definitely connected with my inner seven-year old while reading this book. It's not too technical, but enough so to satisfy the juvenile fact-collecting passion, and is encyclopaedic rather than in essay form, so great for dipping into rather than developing a deep knowledge. As I'm not studying to be a paleontologist, that suits me fine. It's wonderfully illustrated and is very clear about what is known and what is assumed. Loved it!

This book has special place in my heart. I was 10 years old and me and my mom were going on our first vacation. We were going to gatlinburg(which was only 4 hrs away) and money was tight. She said i can get 1 big souvenir for the trip. Well we went to this cute little bookstore and there it was, sitting in all its glory. I showed her and she said "why not something gatlinburg related?" but i insisted. She agreed grudgingly and said "you better keep this for a long time" which is understandable because it was alot of money for us at that time. To this day, 14 years later, i still have it and love it as much as i did when i first saw it. It was my first big for my collection and my first paleontology book.

Dougal Dixon is probably best known for his speculative evolution books, After Man and The New Dinosaurs. He is a careful paleontologist, though, using the most up-to-date information for his reconstructions, depicted in plausible action: his raptors are feathered, his stegosaurs are high-tailed, his ceratopsians don't sprawl. He takes liberty only with coloring, offering up a wide variety of surface patterns that look like real animals, but are highly speculative. The artwork stands out as some of the best paleontological reconstruction I've ever seen.
The title is a misnomer, of course-- how could a book of this size be complete? But he covers all the major groups, anyway, as well as several other ancient reptilian lineages, including pterosaurs, archosaurs, and sea-going reptiles. The least familiar to me was Psephoderma, a turtle-analog with a split shell, one in the front and one in the back. It looks almost like some kind of beetle! The text is a grab bag of factoids, which suited me just fine, though it wouldn't be of much use as an actual reference. -
This non fiction book was written by a man called Dougal Dixton. It contains 335 dinosaurs and shows lots of accurate facts about dinosaurs and non dinosaurs such as pterosaurs, and prehistoric sea creatures. It has 1000 maps, photographs and timelines. This book really helped me understand more about dinosaurs and when they existed and what they do during their reign. There is no other books in this series. It shows all the famous Palaeontologists. This book interests me because it improved my knowledge on dinosaurs and a few dinosaurs in that book that I have never heard of. I strongly recommend this book to all dinosaur fans because it helps you learn more about dinosaurs. My personal opinion about this book is its my favourite non fiction book I have ever had and probably my best book ever.

The Complete Book of Dinosaurs by Dougal Dixon
Target Audience: Any age but specifically 2nd-7th grades
Informational Nonfiction
Twin text #5: Dinosaurs Before Dark (Magic Tree House, #1). I chose a Magic Tree House book because it's a great series to get into, and the first book is about dinosaurs! It provides a little information about them (as if you haven't already learned enough from The Complete Book of Dinosaurs) but it's also a really fun book! Once this book is read, the rest of the series is great as well. -
A very interesting book; nicely illustrated and full of useful information about these fascinating animals
