My husband got into a fight and plunged off a bridge,
Leaving me to raise our two children on my own.
After struggling for the last fourteen years,
I pack up my kids and move in with my crazy old aunt in Carlton.
I land a waitressing gig,
And the moment I meet the head chef,
His deep green eyes have me spellbound.
Drew may be a single parent like me,
But with his bad boy looks and mischievous smile,
I know he’ll be nothing but trouble—
Especially when I hear he’s a bear shifter, just like my late husband.
His unusual last name sounds strangely familiar, though.
Intuition has me pull the police report for my husband’s case,
But it burst into flames in my hands when I saw the name of the suspect:
The same one belonging to the man I can’t resist.
Drew swears he didn’t kill him, but I don’t believe him.
Until my dead husband shows up at the restaurant alive and well—
With a new mate and two kids.
Steamy shifter love scenes and an HEA inside! No cheating or cliffhanger in this standalone romance. Readers 18+.

This one was interesting on a couple of fronts. First Shannon being a witch and connected to the old lady with the food cards. The old lady is a hoot and was great in this one! I found it interesting how Shannon's past came back to haunt her and the connection she had to Drew beyond their attraction when working together.
Things got a bit crazy at the end, but Shannon did what she needed to, even the hard parts and there were multiple hard parts. I was glad when she and Drew were able to work things out and have a bright future together. -
Neither Drew nor Shannon could explain the pull towards each other or the electric current that passed through them when they touched. However, what they didn’t know was that they were already connected in the past and once this is discovered, it would take them on a wild and bumpy ride, prior to them accepting their fated life together. This is a beautifully written take about betrayal, fated lovers, secrets, tryst issues and the benefits of honest communication. I really enjoyed reading this story and can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Shannon moves to town with her 2 kids; she is living with her aunt. Shannon is a witch, and her dead husband was a bear. She goes to work at the restaurant with Drew the chef and they are instantly attracted to each other. Drew is also a single parent, and they spend a little time together; her kids have to tell her he is a bear shifter. Drew and Shannon are not interested in being together and when Shannon finds out he was in Seatle when her husband died that's not good.

Bear’s Midlife Witch is the eighth story in the Shifter Nation: Fated Over Forty series and delivers an intriguing, and tense romance with a few unexpected twists along the way.
Shannon has returned to Carlton to live with her aunt in the hopes of helping her son get his magic under control. She’s a witch with unusually strong abilities, however, she’s also let her magic just sit there mostly unused as she goes about life raising two children on her own after her husband’s death. With a teenage son whose magic isn’t exactly stable and a teenage daughter who loves to annoy her younger brother with her own abilities, well, life is hectic enough without tossing a romance into the mix.
Drew is handling fatherhood on his own and is very protective of his daughter. So, he sticks with creating delicious meals as a chef and leaves the romance for the other folks to worry about since he has enough on his plate right now. But that notion goes out the window when Shannon begins working at the brewery and the attraction is instant. Yet, she’s a witch and he’s a bear shifter both with kids… no way this is ever going to work, right?
I had fun with Bear’s Midlife Witch. The story is solid, exactly what I expect from this author, and those curveballs, well, that just made Shannon and Drew’s journey all the more interesting. I love the little glimpses of the town, the food trucks, and some of the folks we met in earlier books. Those kinds of details matter to me, just as secondary characters that can stand on their own always make a story more interesting to me. There were moments when I would have loved to have a stern conversation with Shannon and Drew, but they had to discover some things the hard way – like not always believing the worst before you know all the facts.
If you love a good, solid Shifter Romance with sizzling chemistry, shenanigans galore, twists and turns to the story, and characters that leap off the page then you’ll love Bear’s Midlife Witch and feel right at home in this series.

Shannon and Drew's Story . . .
Shannon Wood is a witch and a single mom with two teenage children, Liam and Kinsley. Some time after her husband is killed in a drunken fight, she moves to Carlton to live with her Aunt Lenora Millhouse who can help Liam with his magic.
Shannon meets the head chef at The Warehouse, a brewery where she is interviewing for a waitress job. Drew Proulx is a bear shifter and shares custody of his daughter Emma. Shannon is pulled to Drew, but she is not certain if she may know him from her past or not. When she tries a spell to get more information about Drew, she keeps seeing her deceased ex, Jason. So she goes to the police station to get a copy of the report on Jason’s death. When her eyes landed on the list of suspects, she saw Drew’s name as rage came over her and the police report began to burn in her fingers. Will he confront Drew over this? Will she move away? Or will she perhaps discuss this with him and find out his side of what happened that night? Could she believe him?
The story line is intriguing and the characters will draw you into their story. But there is more to come in this one as a sudden twist in the story line will grab your attention to see what happened and how it gets resolved. Would her suppressed witchcraft skills come back to keep her safe from the danger as she confronts the past? Would the revelations that become obvious bring Shannon and Drew together? Or tear them apart? -
This was an awesome book and the storyline had me turning the pages and to watch Shannon and Drew struggle with parenthood just makes it so much better. Shannon is a witch who married a bear shifter but who is now widower with two teenage kids with her son having trouble controlling his magic and his sister giving him a hard time and when it gets out of control and he burns down his bully’s locker and so they move back to Carlton with her crazy aunty Lenora and lands a job at the brewery as a waitress. Drew is a single dad and bear shifter and is a chef at the brewery where he meets Shannon the gorgeous new waitress and the hot chemistry that’s burning between them is off the charts but can they get past there issues and have a future together or not. There is so much more to this book and I didn’t want to spoil it anymore. Great book.

"Everything needed to get easier, or she was going to break."
There is a special kind of magic in Shannon and Drew's story as they face the all too relatable struggles of trying to figure out when to open up about themselves how much to the one they think they might be starting a relationship with... add the complication of kids, and when to share how much about their relationship, and this story is a sweet tribute to the challenges of parenthood, as well as the joys. It respects the hard conversations and decisions... and remembers that parents are real, vibrant, people too.
This done in one Kindle Unlimited quick read is a solid stand alone book. Characters from other books in the series appear in this story, but instead of being part of an overarching arc, this is part of an interesting, close knit community. -
A good fated mate romance, Bear’s Midlife Witch is an interconnected standalone in Meg Ripley’s Fated After Forty series. As my introduction to the series, not bad at all. I love a fated mate romance as much as I do a shifter and/or single parent one, and this one checks a lot of boxes. Including a more mature heroine and hero. I truly enjoyed this book and am looking forward to checking out more of the series and from Meg Ripley.
While I did find Shannon and Drew’s romance a little underdeveloped against the backdrop of everything else happening in the story, the narrative is definitely complex, involving secrets, deceptions, and all kinds of complications that build up the world and community in Carlton a great deal. Still a very satisfying read, and the couples’ chemistry, histories, and personalities make it clear enough that they belong together. -

Shannon moves to town and gets a job as a waitress where Drew is the chef. She takes one look at his tattoos and piercing scars and knows he's hot but not for her. She's a witch, raising two children with magical abilities and needs stability for them. Then there's a confrontation between her and Drew where she accuses him of killing her dead husband and not telling her he's a bear *RIGHT BEFORE THE DEAD HUSBAND WALKS IN*. It all kicks off from there, with an epic battle her kids are involved in and a huge fight with her and Drew and the dead-not-dead husband.
Each of these books follows one couple's journey to love. The characters carry over into other books, with very few typos or trigger issues. -

After the death of her husband and struggling, Shannon moved to town with her kids, to live with her aunt. Needing a job, Shannon interviewed at the restaurant and started right away but not before have a fun yet awkward meetings with Drew in the kitchen.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I really liked the different story lines twisting together into one after diverging. Shannon and Drew are attracted to each other but problems arise when the shared past they had but was unknown was revealed. However what everyone thought happened didn't. I liked Drew's protectiveness and how both Shannon and her son Liam came into their powers. In the end Drew and Shannon are together merging their families. I liked how the community came together to help the stranded mother and her kids.

I enjoyed this book telling Drew and Shannon's story they met at The Warehouse, where she works as a waitress. Their story is well written full of love and hot chemistry. The characters are lovely, they are well-drawn, not just the main two but Kinsley and Liam, Shannon's children and Emma, Drew's daughter.
I love the way the story develops and how the author has woven in so much drama, action and danger along with so much love and chemistry. -
Bear's Midlife Witch fits perfectly with the other books in the Fated Over Forty series and yet it still contains that flare that makes this one of my one-click authors. I enjoyed the instant connection, the overflowing romance and physical connection between Drew and Shannon and the air of angst and danger that brought depth to the story. I can’t wait to read the next book by this author.
