Celebrating the wonders of nature, this retelling of Psalm 104 invites you to enjoy and explore the world God made. Moving from one feature of the natural world to the next—from the sky and earth to the animals and oceans—the book’s lyrical language introduces questions from a child’s view. What about when strong winds blow? When birds fly far away? When the night is long? Each uncertainty is met with a truth about God’s character to comfort children and give them the confidence they need to explore the world around them.
Hannah Anderson’s stirring words are joined by Nathan Anderson’s soft, realistic watercolors. Together they have created a book with a timeless aesthetic and readability, one that will resonate with families who celebrate the beauty of nature and the wisdom that comes from the world God made.

5 Stars ✨
The World God Made by Hannah Anderson was a beautiful retelling of Psalm 104. Full of beautiful and detailed illustrations to keep kids engaged. I read this with my daughter she loves helping me review books like this. Her favorite part was how lyrical it read. Each page had a rhyming parallel to the psalm and she really enjoyed guessing which word the phrase would end on.
This short book covers basic things from creation like the sky, animals, plants, oceans, wind etc. It definitely introduces questions the child might have about certain things with its vocabulary. It’s also cool to read through this for a story/Bible time and then go to Psalm 104 and read the original from different translations. Our favorite illustration was the Aurora Borealis towards the end. Both my daughter and I would recommend.
“Thank you NetGalley and (publisher) for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own” -
A whimsical retelling of Psalm 104
-
This book is such a sweet yet sensible ode to love creation...but not more than the Creator Himself! I loved the concise word usage and creative imagery this book portrayed. What a beautiful depiction of Psalm 104!
Thankful to NetGalley and B&H Kids for allowing me the pleasure to digitally review this book. Looking forward to adding a physical copy to my son's bookshelf! -
4.5/5 stars
My son’s favorite psalm (so far, he’s only made it to 119) is psalm 104. When Hannah Anderson dropped this title, I knew it would find its way into our home. This is simply a beautiful book both artistically and poetically. This book is written in an AABB rhyme scheme. This is easy enough for a 1st grader to read alone, and rich enough to make a grown woman tear up. The emphasis in this book is that: God is the creator; there is no need to be afraid; and you are glorifying God by acknowledging His handiwork. Hannah’s husband, Nathan, watercolored the animals and it is really remarkable work. Engaging. Beautiful. Provoking curiosity. And leaving the reader in awe of God’s intentional design in nature.
My favorite lines:
“Sometimes the cloud hang dark and low / then noisy winds begin to blow. / But do not worry. Do not fear — / the One who made them will come near.”
“So listen closely. Try to learn: / the One who makes the heavens turn / is with you until darkness fades, / protecting all the world God made.
--->>My one critique is that there is no mention of Jesus being the Creator, so it doesn’t stand out as a distinctly Christian (though I know the author is) book and a belief system/religion with a creator god could read this and readily agree. As a believer, however, this invites the reader to still stand in awe of the Lord and dig deeper into the reality of the creation account and beauty of Christ’s design. Like I said, it made a grown woman cry. That grown woman was me.
This is my new favorite children’s book on our shelf. My son was blown away that there was a book that paralleled his favorite psalm. What a beautiful world we have—a world God made.

Written by Hannah Anderson, and illustrated by Nathan Anderson, this book explores the beauty of creation and the connection between the world and our Creator.
Reading Level: Easy (4+)
This book is written for children.
Faith Engagement Level: Easy to Digest
Faith engagement is very limited as the content revolves around a single concept of creation care.
Reader Age Recommended: Ages 4+
The overall book may be a touch long for the youngest readers to enjoy in one sitting.
WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE THIS BOOK FOR THE CHILDREN IN MY LIFE?
This book illustrates creation using imagery that allows for discussion of global climates, ecosystems, food production, and the life cycle of animals. The watercolour art is colourful, but not overstimulating for students who may have different needs in their sensory processing.
In terms of the content, it clearly points towards God as the Creator God - through the lens of Psalm 104 - and invites the reader to engage in their understanding of creation. This book may be a suitable introduction to the the topic of caring for creation in a Christian School elementary classroom or in a Sunday School setting.
WHAT WILL THIS BOOK CHALLENGE KIDS TO DO?
Books with this illustration style are approachable and invitational to kids to explore their own artistic abilities. While it does not explicitly invite the child to do so, I imagine that children will find themselves drawing their own little versions of this story. It may also challenge students to approach the Scriptures in a similar way, and write versions of other Psalms for themselves. -
Although this is suppose to have been inspired by biblical verses I cannot pull these verses up right away in y mind as to the exact wording.
Although you may use the original verses and this book for an impromptu Bible studies this book can also be used on its own. The text is provided in a rhyming flow that helps the reader from one location with its animal and plants inhabitants while at the same time encouraging children to be bold whether in exploration, trying new things or even just being curious. Even as the book acknowledges some of the worries and fears you may feel in these situations it also provides the young reader with assurances about God in all His glory.
The pictures are brightly colorful and full of details while the reader will find some animals in various different habitats thus helping to interweave the poem even further. Although not all the animals are presented quite realistically they still don't take away from the overall message.
All in all this was a charming and quick read while one that Christian homes in my feeling will treasure for their own little ones whether used as a bedtime story or just for light reading.
**I received a free copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.** -
Lyrical prose and lavish illustrations remind young readers that a loving God is in control in this beautiful retelling of Psalm 104.
Readers join a mama bear and her two cubs and other animals as they explore the world God made. This includes rivers, mountains, water, soil, plant life, birds, butterflies, and oceans. Just like the psalm, The World God Made gently reminds readers that He is loving, guiding, and guarding in all creation and in our lives, too.
This is a thoughtful and evocative echo of Psalm 104. Like the psalm, it celebrates God's glory and goodness in His works of creation and providence. Easy-to-under rhyming text reminds young readers that God is master over creation and no creature is beyond His control. Upbeat and lively, it’s also true to the original text without being overwhelming.
This is a charming read. It encourages young children to connect with a Heavenly Father who loves them and cares for them. It will certainly appeal to its target audience of children ages four to eight.
An excellent resource for young readers and those who love them. -
I love Hannah Anderson’s books and have most of her books on my electronic shelves. But I admit to feeling somewhat disappointed with this rhyming one for children. To me, it just did not flow that well though the rhymes themselves worked well. There are also a few instances where the phrase “the world God made” would have been better replaced with “the world he made.”
The illustrations are not bad though I can’t help but feel (personal preference) that they could have been brighter and bolder. I loved Nathan Anderson’s drawings in the previous couple of publications.
3 stars from me, but I am not giving up on the Andersons yet. Still looking forward to their next book! -
This is engaging book for both parent and child in the world that God made. It is a book that draws the reader closer to God and his goodness. His goodness if found in creation. Even those that do not believe in Him, still find that goodness. Believing in God, draws us to his presence.
From all over the world and all walks of life, God is good.
A special thank you to B&H Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review. -
This was a very beautifully drawn book, and the poetry telling the story of God is very much reminiscent of the Psalm on which it is based. My grandson really enjoyed the story and the pictures in this book. Excellent job!

I was able to read an ARC of this book thanks to the publisher. It was very sweet and my nature loving children loved reading it. I love that it is a retelling of Psalm 104 but in words that relate a bit better to the children. It prompted us to read the Psalm as well.

I really enjoyed this book, but the illustrations needed some work. The premise of the book was great, but I really enjoy some good artwork and this wasn't my favorite.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC! -
a delightful and enjoyable picture book that pays homage to Psalm 104

Really lovely. (Even better after reading the author and illustrator's notes on themes to look and listen for.)
