What a refreshing story!
I did call the 'twist' early on but in no way, shape, or form did that take away from the story.
The references to The Nightmare Before Christmas had me constantly smiling and reminded me exactly why I love that movie and those characters so much.
NJ took a beautiful passion for a story and turned it into something to refreshing and swoon worthy.
Fantastic debut. -

I adore a solid stand alone - N.J. Weeks conquered. Skulls and Stitches is mafia romance infused with spooky, meets a touch of emo vibe.
Carmine and Sienna are two MCs that taunted me until I finished the book. Every time I put it down to focus on some other task, I would suddenly find myself faced with several theories as to where this was going. If that wasn't enough to pull me back in, the both of them seemed to whisper, "the more you read now, the closer you are to knowing the truth".
The book has a very short timeline, meaning events happen relatively quick and the story unravels rapidly. N.J. composed the story in such a way that this type of speed truly works for the plot. Do not write this novel off as being unreasonable due to pacing/timeline, I assure you there is a purpose for the speed.
The world building is blended throughout the writing, creating a sense of nostalgia and often, foreshadowing events for the reader. The details are developed enough without being too overstated. Readers may find themselves feeling as if placed in the corner of the room, watching a movie as opposed to reading.
Sienna and Carmine's chemistry is palpable. From the first moment, it was hard for me to keep the butterflies in my stomach contained. From the minute they meet, it feels ominous, potentially cataclysmic. Their desire for one another is intense and I could not shake these characters from my head if I tried.
Skulls and Stitches is beautifully done, engrossing and suspenseful. N.J. Weeks' writing is clean and well constructed.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? That was the first thought that came to mind when I finished this book. This is an absolutely AMAZING debut novel๐ as a lover of all things spooky, gothic vibes architecture, and the like, I was COMPLETELY drawn in. The descriptions of the settings were amazing, the background details were always there, so nothing was ever left being questioned. The character development, especially of Sienna was absolutely amazing. She truly is a badass that finally got her happy ending. DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON CARMINE๐ฅต THE PLOT TWIST AT THE END ARE YOU JOKING!? I'm obsessed. I just finished it and I already need it on my shelf.๐ -
The slow burn BURNED hard, BUT I do enjoy a broken hearted FMC who doesnโt act like a pathetic broken hearted FMC. One who makes choices in spite, and because it feels good in the moment (albeit not the best of decisions - relatable AF).
The twist wasnโt so much of a twist, but the love between the two main characters was all consuming. The love for spooky things made me smile and I melt when the nickname is in another language. ALSO - yay for beautiful Puerto Rican representation in dark romance!!! -

This book was so great! I know itโs a dark romance and it is 100%, check the trigger/content warnings because it has heavy themes, but it was also deliciously sweet! I loved the Nightmare Before Christmas references throughout, it was done so well! Sienna is so cool and feisty and I just want to be her and Carmineโs chapters are just absolutely amazing *chefs kiss* ๐ค๐ป๐ Carmine will forever live rent free in my head. This book was an absolute joy to read and had me crying at the end!

I was able to read S&S as an arc, but my review is my own.
Oh...my...god! I have been so excited for this book from N.J and once it was finally in my hands, it did not disappoint! Her writing was absolutely beautiful, tying in so much symbolism throughout the pages.
The opening to the book hooked me, and the progression throughout had me trying to come up with theories, which turned out to be wrong. I wish I had taken a picture of my face when it was revealed...because I didn't see it coming! The characters had my heart by the end, and it's a book I will no doubt read again and again!
If you like dark themes, and gothic vibes, give this debut novel a go! And then message me so we can obsess about it together! -
Every time I get an ARC for an indie author it makes my soul soo happy! I was so honoured to get the privilege of being on the ARC team for Skulls and Stitches and let me tell you: I was NOT disappointed!
Skulls and Stitches is dual POV between our main characters, Sienna Ricci and Carmine Moretti. I love a dual POV story because of the depth we go into the minds of the MCs. A mafia romance with deliciously gothic/ spooky vibes and some thigh squeezing spice, Skulls and Stitches has it all.
You've got strengthening trauma, you've got mystery, you've got intrigue, you've got spice, you've got romance and of course, it wouldn't be a mafia book without some graphic violence tossed in there. I somehow managed to cry tears of both sadness AND joy while reading this book.
Skulls and Stitches is a spooky lovers dream, with plenty of Nightmare Before Christmas references throughout the book. As well as some Poe for those gothic spook fans. -
First of all, NJ has a beautiful way with words. I truly appreciate her letting me ARC read this! I will of course give a completely honest review. Truly this book was poetic. Sienna and Carmineโs love story was electric and their chemistry was palpable and deliciously kinky. I love the ode to Poe and Tim Burton; completely unique! I also loved the addition of the Puerto Rican lore and culture!

Hereโs why I docked it a star, I found it a bit repetitive in the beginning. I also found that sienna and even carmine were a bit oblivious at times, and some things were not fully explained. As a reader if something is more plot heavy, I do pay more attention to the details, so I had some questions. However, with that being said, I will definitely read this author again! She speaks to my love for spooky things and gothic opulence! -
Goosebumps. Thatโs the first word that came to mind as soon as I finished this one & closed my kindle. The angst, the love, the hate, the drama. THE TWISTS! Everything about it was just YES.
Iโm just dipping my toe into the dark romance world and let me tell you, Iโm obsessed. Especially after Skulls & Stitches. Itโs no surprise though because mafia shows & movies are hands down my favorite. Carmine & Siennaโs characters were both so intense separately, as well as together. And I loved it. The gothic, spooky Halloween vibes that set the tone from the very beginning were captivating and really sucked you in. I did guess the twist, but the way it was executed and introduced was done perfectly. It really had you on the edge of your seat waiting for the mic drop. Iโm in awe that this was NJโs debut, and cannot wait to read more by her!

Just going to start by saying OH MY GOSH!!! I could not put this down. Sienna and Carmineโs story had me hooked from the first few pages. The writing style, plot twists, the spice (omgggโฆthe spice), and suspense had me staying up til the early hours in the morning just to find out what happens next. I love the poetic nature weaved into the story as well as the Jack and Sally references found throughout the novel. Skulls and Stitches has been on my anticipated reads list and it did not disappointment. S&S was the perfect combination of intrigue, spooky season vibes, and alpha male to make this a ๐ฅ dark romance read!
I can guarantee I will be buying any and everything N.J. Weeks writes and Iโm already anticipating her next novel!!

Boy, oh, boy. Woo-wee. This is a good one, and my spooky nightmare heart enjoyed every second.
It's ~ 4 am as I type this BTW for I stayed up devouring every word and moment.
Without giving too much away, Nightmare Before Christmas meets mafia romance and swooning.
That is all.

Carmine our MMC is our tattooed, mysterious, dark, trauma baby, and scrumptious morally grey alphahole!!! Carmine speaks in riddles that frustrate you but also makes you swoon all at the same time. He is eloquent and poetic when he speaks. If you want a character to question things about yourself... look no further. This man could โ ๏ธโ ๏ธโ ๏ธ and do the most questionable things for me and to me... and I would say "Thank you sir may I please have another!!"

N.J.'s writing is poetic and has such beautiful prose I can't even describe the feeling i got while reading her words. I found myself being so intrigued and engrossed in the story I never wanted to look up. The mysterious and suspense factor of the story also made this book a page turner. I had to know; had to know everything. Literally Sienna and Carmine would pop up in my dreams... until I couldn't take it any longer and had to know how their story ended. The heavy influence of Halloween and The Nightmare Before Christmas had this woman's dark gothic heart giddy!!! The Nightmare Before Christmas nods, especially since it was...and still is one of my favorite love stories ever! I devoured this book!!
I can not wait for everyone to read this book and can not wait to see and read more of what N.J is working on!! -
How to find words for how much I loved this book?
It might be impossible, honestly. This book is so beautiful, from the writing to the blend of culture and lore, to the hidden little gems from one of my favorite movies growing up. N. J. truly poured her heart and soul into the pages and I can feel it. Itโs an honor to read the finished book and it simply blew my expectations out of the water in every way. The chemistry between Sienna and Carmine, the careful plotting and payoff, the secrets that gradually come to the light, the way their love caught fire and required the death of everything else to burn bright and true. This was everything I wanted it to be and more. I suspected some of the twists and was excited to see I was right, but Iโm still just so impressed with how it all worked out. I love this book, and I am beyond excited to see what other dark and beautiful magic comes from the authorโs mind. -

This book has a very strong revenge plot and the suspense starts right from the start.
I must say that I struggled at the mid part of the book, there were pages full of descriptions and it felt a little dragged.
Luckily it picked up the pace again and it all unraveled! I think this is a solid debut novel, I loved the gothic scenery and you canโt go wrong with a big, tattooed MMC ๐
I think I saw she is working on a Edgar Allan Poe inspired novella and I couldnโt be more curious about it!! -

This book was so much fun and spicy! I loved the bits of Nightmare Before Christmas thrown in. Like the Tattoo shop named after Oogie Boogie and Carmineโs suit is pinstriped. (NMBC is one of my favorite movies, kind of obsessed.) The whole damn book had me questioning everything and gripped me from the very beginning! The tension between the FMC Sienna and the MMC Carmine was so hot. Sienna is sassy, speaks her mind, and is tough f*ck, love her! Carmine is the broody, alphahole we know and love. But his one weaknessโฆ Sienna.
There are twists and turns throughout the book, you are constantly asking yourself who and where, and why. Who is the good guy, the bad guy? What are Carmineโs plans? Iโm not gonna lie though I figured out the twist early on. That beginning part with Siennaโs first love seriously broke my heart, I felt Siennaโs sadness throughout the whole book. Iโm happy though cause N.J. Weeks gave us a happy ending. I loved how it played out. Though I was curious about Siennaโs bestie and how that conversation went when she found out the truth and whether she was cool with the situation. -

Iโm still literally blown away that this is N.J. Weekโs debut novel!! The writing in this is so beautiful, the Jack & Sally retelling mixed with the SPICE & the mysterious/suspense factor had me begging for more. If Tim Burton wrote a Dark Romance, this would be it.
CARMINE MORETTI? Literally just stop everything. My mysterious, dark, SARCASTIC, tattooed, Iโd burn the world down for you, delicious morally grey alphahole. SWOON.
The ONLY reason why this wasnโt a full 5 for me was I felt like I had to push through on some parts but THE SPICY SCENES!!! My god, I ate that shit up.

I loved every single second of this book. It hooked me from the beginning. There is death and rebirth, deception and loyalty, vengeance and forgiveness. So many opposite energies woven together in a beautiful story.
Loved learning the Puerto Rican folklore. That story was so sweet.
I have never seen Nightmare Before Christmas but I have friend who are obsessed and so I got every single reference. They were subtle and very cute nods to the movie.
I literally cannot say more without spoiling some of the twists so I will leave it here. I guessed every single one of them right early on in the book, yet I was never bored.

First, a big thank you to @njweeks.books for giving me an ARC of this book! I always love a mafia romance and this one had all the flair and twists you hope for in a great one! The characters are likable and real - making mistakes and struggling to communicate their emotions just like real people do. I loved Carmine from the jump! Who doesnโt love a burn down the world for her kind of man?! Heโs so dark and swoony, I honestly had butterflyโs during so many of their interactions! I felt for Sienna and her struggle with grief which I think the author did a great job at expressing. As far as spice, these two have chemistry for days! ๐ฅ๐ฅ

THIS BOOK WAS PERFECT ๐ญ I am such a big Nightmare before Christmas fan and then you add mafia into the mix ?! I just KNEW I was going to love this book !!!! Every single thing about this book was just so good to me !!!! I especially loved Carmine and Siennas relationship and how he would legit do ANYTHING for her ! Heโs just a perfect MMC to me ! The plot twist took me by surprise because I did not expect any of it at all !!! I was wtfing at 80% and on basically had me at the edge of my seat !!!!!

3.5 rounded up to 4 starsโจ I really liked the vibes of the book and the chemistry between Carmine and Sienna, but not gonna lie, I didnโt really mess with any of the other characters we were introduced to๐ฅธ I do think that was maybe to make it easier for the two of them to dip out at the end of the book, but I do love a good side character๐ญ Even though I guessed the big reveal early on, I was definitely second guessing myself at some points like โdamn, is he really?โ๐ I do think the lead up to the reveal was a bit dragged out even though in the book it all happens in mere days๐ also the epilogue? This book is beautifully written. I loved the mystery elements of the story. It differentiated it self from other dark romance I have read. This book definitely had a lot of firsts for me. It was extremely creative. I love the spooky vibes throughout the story. Also, Iโm a big fan of nightmare before Christmas so I loved the references to it. I had so much fun buddy reading this. There is so much to discuss and a lot things to unravel.

This book was an amazing dark romance book. With Sienna and Carmineโs love for goth, dark, and all things creepy it made for a great read. Both Sienna and Carmine had lost in their past which shaped them into the people they are now. There is passion between them from the first interaction but Sienna doesnโt realize Carmineโs true intentions.
This book had several twists that I didnโt see coming and enough suspense to keep you wanting more. I loved how strong and no bullsh*t FMC Sienna is. ๐ค
NJ Weeks killed it with this book. It was a dark suspense romance book that kept you on the edge of your seat. This book releases January 13th and is worth preordering! I will be ordering this paperback ๐ค๐๏ธ -
This needs 13 stars! I imagine if Tim Burton wrote a dark romance, it would be this๐ค.
Everything about this was beautiful and tragic in the best possible way. Carmine is this combination of sex on a stick meets gothic psycho and it is perfect!! He uses words like a poet to weave the narrative he is creating in his world.
Sienna is a badass in her own right and commands the space she is in. I love that she owns who she is and knows her value.
Sienna and Carmine together are two tornadoes fusing to create a superstorm the world isnโt ready for. Their story is one that was written in death and brings life to the pages of their love.
From the characters, to the writing, and the connections that bring everything together this is perfection!! I loved this world and I canโt wait to read this again just so I can experience the chaos that is Sienna and Carmine. -

Wayyy too long!!! It gets sooo boring and dull!
The lack of contractions makes the characters sound robotic and thereโs soooooooo much inner monologue I mean it goes on for pages pages and pages!
IMO this book needs a really good editor and to be about 200 pages shorter. I figured the twist out right away and the twist werenโt really surprising well at least not to me.
I absolutely loved the beginning but after a certain character leaves it just seemed like the story went up crazy town.
I did not feel like Carmine was an Alpha male at all sometimes his actions and his dialogue sounded really โgirlyโ.
Obviously this was a miss for me. -

OMG! What an explosive debut novel! The creative and poignant word weaving right from the start had me riveted to my seat, biting my nails with utter anticipation of what the hell was going to happen, and picking my jaw up off the floor over what was actually transpiring right before my eyes. It was dark, slightly depraved, insanely emotional, exciting and twisted; and filled to the brim with suspense, secrets, heartache, violence, retribution and love. I devoured every delicious moment and could not get enough.
Sienna is a fighter, survivor, and a fierce woman. Her soul has been shattered over and over but she continually fights to stitch herself back together even after all of the heartache she has been put through. When she has an opportunity to move to a new city and start a new job, this could be the new beginning that she desperately needs. But little does she know; her life is about to get turned upside down by her devilish new employer Carmine.
โShe is a perplexing rag doll, scarred and broken. I want nothing more than to mend all her broken pieces and revel in the masterpiece that is her fractured beauty. Soon, she will have no choice but to succumb to her fate and realize that to truly live is to die in my skeletal grip.โ

I really am in shock with how stunning this book was. The rating if I could would be a 4.4 stars๐ I am in completely aw with the book the eerie, spooky, and gothic vibes I have been dying to read is in. This. Book.
This book had me captivated the moment I started reading it. The charcters! First of the latino/latina represetation is in and I was just so happy to see represetation incorporated in a deliciously sinful book that I dive myself to read everyday! Carmine has definitely raised my standards in men! if my man doesn't eliminate anything or anyone who is trying to stop him from going with his beloved (me hehe lol) why do I want him? I also love Sienna, God I am always searching for bad ass females who don't take shit from anyone and especially men! And miss Sienna you delivered! The freakin badass she is is something I strive to be like like no joke. The dark and utterly unhinged love that brews within them is absolutely Infatuation and inspirational (my man is going to trad this book so he can take some notes because I want a Carmine so freakin bad!)
I am obsessed with the sprinkles of the love for writing the author incoperated because the Sienna has a passion for writing! because I too strive to be an author but have been extremely to scared to approach but with that said this book has given me the boost to try to do something I have been pushing back, so for that N.J. Weeks I thank you because of this book I have gained a little more love for writing and I couldn't thank you enough.
I highly encourage everyone in the WHOLE world to read this glorious, deliciously, dark, suspenseful, sexy, gorey, bloody book because it will turn your life around.
