When The Moon Split Reviews

Reading this book in its entirety during the month of Ramadan has just renewed my profound love I have for my Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) and the Ummah.
This book was very easy to read but so difficult because of the hardships and trials that the Prophet (PBUH) and the Muslims at this time had to face. The hardships show an insight into the character of my Prophet (PBUH) and how resilient he was and how he never wavered in spreading the message of Islam.
The detailed account of the Prophet’s (PBUH) life, actions, and doings are incredibly detailed, it was so refreshing and really nourished me during this month of Ramadan. It also helped strengthen my emaan and when reading the Qur’an. I read and look at it in a different way because of the understanding that the Qur’an came as a revelation bit by bit in different circumstances and situations, difficulties and tribalities to my Prophet (PBUH). Every letter, every ayah, every Surah, has such a beautiful and deep meaning to it and reading this book has helped with also understanding the Qur’an better. I took so much from this book; it will always stay with me and without a doubt will re-read it time and time again.
May Allah grant the highest level of Jannah to the writer of this book. Ameen
And now onto ‘The Sealed Nectar’. -
Another classic!!!! "When the Moon Split" by Safiur-Rahman Mubarakpuri is a book of seerah (biography of the Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam), and unlike some of the more dense and dry English texts on the topic, flows well and illustrates the life of RasulAllah in a manner easy to understand and follow.
It is absolutely a necessary part of any Muslamic home library - perhaps not as fancy as newer books out there, but it is a tried and true resource that one can always come back to. It's fairly easy for tweens and teens to get through as well, though they may initially find it a little boring - which, frankly, is a skill they need to pick up anyway.
It's definitely a great resource for someone who is new to the topic as well, as it isn't overwhelmingly academic or bogged down with details that require background knowledge. -
This book was excellent. I have a totally new understanding of the hardships of the Prophet Muhammad and the Muslims of his time. They were mistreated to a level I could never have imagined before reading this book. I will definitely read it again insha'Allah.

a more concise version of the sealed nectar by the same author.
may Allah swt continue to make this author’s work a means for them to gain higher ranks in jannah, ameen <3 -
Seronok.

This book is a great choice if one wants to read about Prophet Muhammad(SAW) for the first time. It basically gives an account of the major events that took place in the life of the Holy Prophet(SAW). No lengthy commentaries are given, just the bare facts, which helps the reader to analyse things for themselves. The only thing that I did not appreciate in regards with this book was that it was a little to brief and focused a little too much on the battles. I know that they are important, however, I like more to read about the small incidents that show his good character and give an insight into his personality. This book does lack those little moments, which have become so dear to the muslims in general.

This book is a brief study of the history of Islam from the birth of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH to the last pilgrimage. The story narration style of the writer is excellent, well detailed, and easily comprehendible. The writer has tried to provide the slightest detail that enriches the mind of readers and keep them active while reading the book. However, the people who already had read another book written by this author which is "The Sealed Nectar" need not read this book. It has similar material. Even "The Sealed Nectar" is more detailed. But the people who want to read all about that specific period in a short span of time must go for this book.

Although this book is the Biography of our Nabi Muhammad ﷺ But I'm not going to decode His life here, since we all are aware of it. We know our prophet's father (Abdullah) died before his birth and his mother (Amna) died when he was 6 years old. His paternal uncle Abu Talib later took care of him.
We all know He had 4 daughters and 3 sons, He got Prophethood at the age of 40, He performed 4 umrahs and 1 hajj in his life, he got married to Khadijah R.A at the age of 25. He left this world when He turned to 63. His most beloved wife was Ayesha R.A. He is the Khatam-un-nabiyeen, people called him by the names of Al-Sadiq, Al-Amin (The Honest, The Trustworthy). We all know these things right?
Therefore, In this review, I'm sharing a few lessons I learned from "When the Moon Split", some words that make you read it.
- The first thing I've comprehended is to never complain about little elements that happen in our lives. Because these complaints take you away from Allah and there comes a time when people get disconnected too.
- To sit in a quiet place daily for at least 15 minutes and discover yourself, find yourself, talk with yourself just like our Nabi ﷺ did before the prophethood. He ﷺ used to sit in the cave Hira to find out His purpose of life and to find Allah SWT.
- We all should actively indulge in activities that increase our knowledge, increase our Imaan because our Prophet ﷺ believed that knowledge brought us closer to Allah.
- Stay on the path of truth (seerat-e-mustaqeem) even if the majority is practicing corruption.
And,
And I learned how to forgive people. Remember that woman who used to throw Garbage on the path of our Nabi ﷺ and He Ignored it always but once she felt sick and did not throw rubbish so Prophet Muhammad ﷺ went to visit her, by seeing the greatness of Muhammad ﷺ she started crying and ended up embracing to Islam.
.
.
Today even though the Muslims are countless but we do not occupy the distinguished level amongst the nations anymore, because we have forgotten to hold to “the two momentous things” that our Prophet ﷺ left behind for us. We may still be a candidate to lead mankind to bliss if we ensure to adhere to the teachings of the Muhammad ﷺ in our lives.
May we always remember and strive to follow the example of our Nabi ﷺ.
Ameen! -
Covers almost every important event in the life of Prophet Muhammad SAW in a brief and concise manner which makes it very easy to read and comprehend.
I feel it is important for every Muslim to have the basic knowledge of how the religion of Islam was perfected and spread throughout Arabia during the life of the Prophet SAW and also, to the very least, be briefed with the names of the Companions.
A must-have on the shelf of every Muslim. And a book that needs to be read again and again and again, even if it is just 2 pages a day, until you truly learn the history of this beautiful religion. -

it made me really sad to put down this book without finishing it, but it really wasn’t what i was looking for— it’s very superficial and reads like “pointers” than an actual biography. i was looking for smthn a bit more in depth and proper, with citations and direct verses/incidents that have translated to islam as it is now. sadly this wasn’t anything of the sort and i, well, didn’t want to read my grade 7 islamiat book all over again.
that said, i’m not gonna rate it because it’s not exactly a “bad” book/biography— just not what i wanted. it could very well be an excellent book for someone just starting out to learn more about the Holy Prophet (PBUH), or someone looking for a rough overview. -
It was an amazing book and especially the fact that it presented almost all the details in such precise and easy way is beyond Compend able. There were so many things and details that were refreshing for memory and heart, and reading about beloved Prophet (saw) surely gives immense pleasure to the soul of a muslim. The end of the book although was a little sad and it never fails to amaze me that the life and times of Prophet's life were so demanding, never a dull moment with the polytheists always ready with creating more havoc.
-
I liked this a lot better than Sealed Nectar (which I never finished). Obviously i read the English translations and i think this is a lot easier to read, less stiff. It's really well written--the battle of Uhud read like a novel, honestly.
Definitely will reread this some time. -
Excellent read
The book kept me involved and captivated. The aurthors vidid description of the accounts of the Prophets life keep me involved. -
Live the path to freedom and democracy, every religion preaches us to live with peace, share love, at the same time the followers of the religions duty-bound of acceptance and respect every religion in the accordance of morale higher. Having said the Islamic religion teaches us about the hardship the prophet and his companions faced, and how they eventually succeeded.
The lesson that this religion preaches wherever you live or travel on this planet you must grow your knowledge. Wellbeing is an important factor to have a disciplined life with tolerance, religion guides us as a signal in both good and bad like the two sides of the coin. The creation of humans by God and nature for the purpose of mankind. The life of humans not only to tempt happiness and comfort but also to experience the salvation of suffering and pain, hungry and thirsty and this will be a fortune to set up a beautiful path in human life.
In my conclusion of this book, every human has their own choice in their life, and death is inevitable, the ultimate is unknown, the unknown is infinity, and I believe the infinity is God almighty. -
Actually it's a difficult job to introduce the world's most influential person's life in a 320 page book. But the Author tried his best by providing the important events in short throughout the book. I've read another biography of Prophet Muhammmad (SWA) which is a bit extended version from this book. To few people, some of the events noted here may seem discrete in some contexts because of the summerized version of the concept or the far extended concept of the event. I can connect the dots as I've read the other book.
Even though it's short, it elaborately described the nature, the power, the personality of the Prophet (SWA). How he suffered and reached to people to show the light of Islam. His mission was to deliver the message he got from Allah and he successfully delivered. Now, we must follow his footprints and hold the standard of Islam above all. Mubarakpuri tried his best and I hope he'll be rewarded for this amazing work in hereafter. -
This was an amazing book. Its simple read great for teens to learn about the Prophet SAW life and the battle and also about his companions, how they accepted Islam. This book also talked about the hardship that Muslim when through during battles or Prophet SAW went through when the nonbeliever taunt him SAW.
Also, I felt by adding the Qurani verses it helps clear the picture what kind a message we as a reader have to learn and this is why I felt this book is not only talks about the history of Prophet SAW but also with him SAW we see the History his SAW companions, Islam, Muslims, the kings, nonbelievers and also his SAW character. -
This book feels like an honest work of a believer. I don't think about any shortcomings with this book or I am not to think of any, as this book is a religious work and I wouldn't like to hurt anybody's sentiments, lesser of committing any act of blasphemy. I just would like to add a point, I personally would have appreciated it if the books contained maps of all the places this book mentions. I would have really liked to know the places and the travels of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). Otherwise, this book is really detailed and honest.
-
This book is flawless.
Words cannot describe the beauty of this work, and I love how the Prophet's life story is portrayed. The title is something that impressed me a lot.
This book was a gift that I received, and without a doubt this is absolutely the best present ever.
It made me learn quite a lot, and I will forever cherish this.
Definitely a worthwhile read for everyone who wants to learn more about religion, and Prophet Muhammad's (SAW) backstory. 🌕 -
Someone recommended this book to me years ago. Since then, I’ve read through it whenever I found the chance. I have 2 editions of this book. This one in particular I found helpful, because at the end of each chapter it includes a summarized list of the lessons & morals mentioned in that particular chapter.
It is a good book, but I wish it was more concise. -
Writing a book on the life and times of the Prophet is an heraculian task. Sheikh Safiur Rahman has done an excellent job in summarising the essence of our Prophet's life and message. This is a good introduction to the Seerah and highly recommend it for everyone.
-
A simple read and suitable for someone who do not have any knowledge about our beloved also suitable to be read by children as it have quizzes at the end of every chapter. But if you want something that is more advance, this book is not for you.
-
This book makes you fall in love the Prophet. It makes us realise how oblivious we are of the sacrifices and hardships faced by the Prophet and his companions.
-
Unethical use of language is shown by the companion of the prophet(Peace and blessings be upon him). On page 209, which is disrespectful.
