Finally, after all this wait! Took him too much time.

Ugh. That is all I can say. This was better than the last one, it was semi-tolerable, but I think I will take a break from this series and maybe read the rest later on. I think there are so many things I hate it about this and I just can't seem to enjoy it because of those tropes/aspects (like the arrogant love interest, it's a no thank you from me).

    Kaya: Seni seviyorum.
    Kyouhei: Biliyorum.

    Öküzsün Kyouhei :)

The love confessions and plot development were enough to let me forgive the last volume’s sins. I also enjoyed Marika’s character development, even if she’s still in direct opposition for Kyohei’s attention. I do wish Kaya would assert herself for her own well-being’s sake, not just because she wants to be a good secretary/blood bank, but we’re five volumes in. If it wasn’t gonna happen earlier, it ain’t happening now. Besides, the whole doormat thing is genuinely incredibly entertaining.

Hopefully the library I ordered volumes six and seven from will fulfill my holds soon! I’d like to complete this series soon.

!! More of like a 2.5 / 5 // I’ll be leaving the same review on volumes 2-7 as I read them all in one day !!

Quite an enjoyable series tbh, but definitely won’t be a favourite. It was nice to read something more adult for once, though I did find myself kind of getting bored at times as the main character just monologues to herself a lot. I liked how it started to go in the last 2 volumes tho, super interesting, just sad it ended so openly!!

This is a smutty manga between a secretary and a Vampire.

This did bother me a little in terms of the toxic masculinity and how the heroine was treated by the main love interest. But it did have a slow burn aspect that I adored and it was super steamy and sexy. Just want I needed and wanted when I needed and wanted it. I read all 7 volumes in one day.

Really liked this one so far! President Touma - Kyouhei changed - he has admitted that he loves Kaya Satozuki & since he's a vampire & very prideful, him admitting his love for her only makes him more prideful than ever & he knows he loves her & that she loves him very much - he started getting Marika to bring him pseudo-blood (fake-blood) so he wouldn't feed on other women & only Kaya - and she's still his secretary & before the divide between him as a vampire & her as a human seemed unbreakable & now i think that wall is slowly disappearing - & these 2 guys lure out Kaya at the end & Kyouhei comes to her rescue! :D cute!

    Finally!!!!
She is his only woman. She is the woman kyouhei loves.

The way he declared her his, was so freaking awsum.
Just two volumes left after this...
I wish there were more volumes. I really don't want this story to be over.

Today’s post is on Midnight Secretary, Vol. 5 by Tomu Ohmi. It is 192 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover is green with a cross and our two main characters on it. As is the fifth in the series you need to have read the first four volumes. The intended reader is someone who has the first volumes in the series, likes josei manga, and paranormal romance. There is no foul language, sex and mild violence in this manga. The story is told from third person close of Kaya the main character. There Be Spoilers Ahead.
From the back of the book- After Kaya’s contract with Erde ended, Kyohei hired her to be his executive secretary at his new company, LVC. Working openly day and night with the man she loves is a dream come true for Kaya, but the honeymoon is short-lived. Marika, the daughter of one of the LVC executives, has a long history with Kyohei and is determined to renew their special friendship. Can love conquer family ties and vampire politics?

Review- Kaya and Kyohei’s relationship is moving forward but of course there are blocks in the way. Kyohei’s old friend, Marika, really just wants what is best for him but because she is only seeing things from a vampire’s side she is missing the bigger picture. So Kyohei feels that he needs to prove himself and of course leaves Kaya out of it. But in the end Kyoehi admits to himself and others that he loves Kaya and will fight for her. So slow progress but progress nevertheless. I have really enjoyed this paranormal romance manga and with only two volume left I look forward to seeing how Ohmi ends everything.

I give this manga a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

The saga continues for our couple with the introduction of a wider cast - specifically a female vampire who could be a potential leg of a triangle for a couple. (Well not really but … drama !! ensues. It helps Kaya stay on her “I’m special only as food” kick).

The plot and romance is furthered though which was good. The tag-line of the volume could be called “Can love conquer family ties and vampire politics?”

As a side note - I do love Kyohei’s hairstyle. The starburst bangs pattern is so quintessentially shoujo manga to me. And seems likely a pain to illustrate 👍👍🥰🥰

In the end the volume was vet cute -

Next volume will likely have more vampire politics but this was a pretty good end to the arc. Series should probably end here though as this seems like a good place to end.

I felt so torn in how to rate this, whether to give it a 3 or a 4, but I boosted it to 4 because it did have more flow than the last volume.
Overall the story is not bad, but I do feel my attitude towards it wanting, it is feeling a bit slow in pace at times.
I feel the summary of the story so far is a little focused on the beginning of the story and not so much on what happened in the last volume (which is what would be more helpful). Well, two more volumes to go after this, I'm glad it is not a long series, I don't think it could have been dragged out too long.

    2020 Read #64

Well, the last chapter of this volume made me warm up to Kyohei a bit — and the lingering question of what can really make blood sweeter to a vampire is answered. I liked the volume overall, but it wasn’t as sexy as prior volumes had been. Two left to go!

  • Gabby

I am still not convinced. It is very different and I am struggling to get into the series, it seems like a very abusive relationship. There may be a change on the horizon but this has happened before and then became worse.

  • David Doel

I wonder if this story was inspired by an interracial romance. There are many overlaps in the situations.

Almost every main element of the story is repeated in each volume. I guess this is a good idea when volumes come out several months apart.

FINALLY some opening up from Kyohei! I still hate his flip-flopping with his behavior toward Kaya, but she still remains close to him as she grapples with accepting the struggles between humans and vampires. With the introduction of more antagonists, I’m curious to see where this will go!

  • Allie

Lots of story and relationship development in this one, particularly with Khohei, who admits how much Kaya means to him and doesn't act like such a relentless alphadouche. Two more volumes to go, and I'm curious how it will all be resolved.

  • Kristin

We're finally getting somewhere with the plot! First two volumes were awesome. Vol 3 and 4 were just wash, rinse, repeat.

  • Kaitlin Chamberlain

Finally he tells her that he loves her! Yay!!

  • Shirley Ririhena

It's definitely getting better, Kyohei finally being honest about his feeling!
this book is more lovely and cute than the previous books.

Luckily, Kyohei took his head out of his a**. I liked this one.
