Silus knew that as soon as power changed hands, as it was foretold, he would be considered a criminal. The new emperor decreed that all persons over eighteen must have a permanent mate as monogamy was the backbone of society. Silus didn't believe in monogamy and love was just some social construct created by poets. He would fight until they caught him and dragged him before his judge. Judgment day for Silus, came sooner than he thought. And the news was grave. Silus was considered a threat to all good couples everywhere and sentenced to death. His judge, Crash, the emperor's son had a problem. He was going to be eighteen and was still unmarried. When Silus was brought before him, Crash was suddenly possessed by lust. Mesmerized by this bad boy's beauty, he saw a quick and pleasurable solution to his problem. He would give Silus an ultimatum, marry me or die.

Marry Me Or Die is a funny romp and I don't believe it wants to be more. It's a futuristic novella where D.J. Manly rewrites the old classic "shotgun marriage" story: Silus is 24 years old and happy to enjoy the freedom of being a bachelor. In the futuristic planet where he lives, Laden, homosexuality is no more forbidden, and so same-sex marriage; but even if Silus is totally gay, he doesn't want to profit of the chance he has to marry a man, he is more than good alone and free to have sex with as many men as he wants. All of this changes when Laden passes under the control of the Monostones and their king: it's an almost peaceful transition if not for the fact that the Monostones are strictly monogamous, and the new king, as first act, promulgates a law: it's forbidden to be over 18 and unmarried, who will go against the law will be prosecuted, condemned to hard labour and in the worst cases to death... and Silus is a very bad case!

But there is an escaping way, Crash the son of the king and the one who is in command to judge the outlaws, will be soon 18 years old and he obviously has to marry. Even if the king believes his soon to be innocent and still virgin, Crash has had the chance to taste what it means being sexual free, and it's not at all happy to have to renounce to that freedom. Since he can't avoid it, he will choose the more experience man he can put his hands on, and Silus meets the requirements. So here is the proposal: or Silus will marry Crash, and remain married to him for at least 15 years, and not cheating around, or he will die. Obviously there is not choice, and then Crash is a little pretty thing, no harsh job to marry him.

As in the best tradition of romance, the shotgun marriage will turn in true and forever love, not before the two young men have the chance to experiment a bit in bed. As I said, I think the author took this as a light and funny story, there is no much drama, and all the events are more funny than really dangerous. Even the time Silus spent in prison wasn't bad, he received so much marriage proposal to last a life. Both men, Silus and Crash, are young and horny, and they behave according to their role; love is a nice cherry on top of the main course that is the sex, and the reason why Crash proclaims he is in love with Silus is that since he can't stand without having sex with him... he doesn't miss Silus' mind or wit, or sense of humor... he misses something specific, and please, don't let me go into details ;-) Anyway, again I think that the author deals with the characters in line with their role: they are two young men at their full sexual potential, and for now, it's more important sex than love.

Said that, and considering that this is a novella, there is no much time left for any other development, but if you are out for a sexy funny romp, this is a good choice.

Why is it that when dictators plan they always overlook the flaw in their own backyard. This is how D.J.Manly draws me into his futuristic earth like world of two societies, where the hierarchy changes hands every 500years. Yes there was a new Sheriff and his posse in town and his first order of business is to tighten up the immoral way of life the citizen have always known.

Laden is the planet that is home to Silus and the planet that is about to have it’s government change and a new set of rules put in place. Silus has been warning his friend of the change for some time but after living all their life's one way – they honestly couldn’t imagine any other way – so he was laughed at.

So said, so done – the news rules were laid down minutes after the head was in place.

“Therefore, under our first mandate, we are
hereby giving all single individuals, eighteen
years or over, one month to find their mate.”
    “What?” Silus cried out loud.
“If at the end of that period, a citizen over that
age is found to be uncoupled, this state of unattachment
will be considered a criminal offence.
That individual must report to the government
where he or she will be judged and punished.
Depending on the circumstances, the accused will
face either hard labour of an indefinite period or in
    exceptional cases, death.”

Changes to the rules mean everyone will have to find their mate or leave it too long and they face death. Silus does not believe in monogamy and he tries to rally the troops to join him, but to no avail. He soon finds himself in the dock and awaiting swift judgement.

His prosecutor however is Crash, the new governors son and certainly not who he expected. Justice is swift and Crash gives him an offer he can hardly refuse – Marry Me Or Die.

Silus takes Crash up on his offer but definately has plans to just treat the union as he has always treated all his sexual liaisons- as temporary stops in his live. Crash on the other hand has his own agenda and they do not include giving up Silus no matter how he plots.

This is one of the fun-est book I have read in a long time. D.J.Manly has created a world that is so similar to earth that you wont even know you are there until the wall of rules hits you and that is when the fun starts.

I laughed out loud at this book and I laughed hard. The dialogue is sarcastic, brutal and to be honest sometime ridiculous and that was the fun of this book.

I fell in love with this book despite it faults. Silus and Crash comes into their marriage with totally different agendas, but as with all good things someone never plays fair or by the rules and this causes a whole lot of hurt and misunderstanding.

With a in-your-face – set of In-laws who thinks nothing of giving as a wedding gift a decent sized dildo and is the first in line to enquire about the grooms package – I was loving it.

Not everything was comical or humorous in this tale, because someone is not liking Crash and knows he up to no good – but only time and a change of the rules will prove him wrong or right.

This is a new side of D.J. Manly to me – I am used to the emotional wreck sort of protags, the angsty male leads and of course the take a chance sort of lovers as well. This mix that I got in MARRY ME OR DIE was a pleasant change and I am loving it alot.

I enjoyed this book even though the title fooled me a little and made me think it would be a more serious story. I loved Crash and I could spend a whole lot of time just listening to his sarcasm and humor, not to mention how beautiful he seemed to be - he was freaking adorable. I thought the whole premise of the book was really cool - introducing a society where everyone had to be coupled, what an interesting concept. I liked Silus a lot, too, his stubbornness and determination to not conform - he was great. Great read, hot and sexy with a really sweet couple (in the end), and as is always the case with DJ's book, I wanted to read more about the characters.

Oh, my goodness, this blurb, is really bad. There are commas, in many places they probably shouldn't be. And there're choppy sentences. I read it and was possessed in turn with morbid interest and aversion.

    I dunno, man. I dunno.

    post-read:
Eh. Idk. I guess it's not bad. It's a bit kitschy.

I have to *lol-ing* the title ... because it's such a funny title. I think it's the first thing that draws me up to this story. I like the banter -- D.J. Manly always seems to be able to pen out amusing, lively dialogs. The sex is nice. The story is okay. Not my favorite of his, but again, kudos for the title :)

I won't rate the book because I was so distracted by the editing that I don't even remember the characters names. I actually ended up contacting the publisher. The publisher assures me that they are fixing th errors now. The e-copy you pick up should be better.

When the new emperor took over, he made it illegal to be single. The people had one month to get married or face punishment of hard labor or death. The emperor's son, Crash, is included in this as he is eighteen. Crash is told he will be the judge for those brought in breaking this law. Silus rebels until he is caught and brought before Crash. Crash orders the soldiers out and makes Silus a deal -- marry me or die. Death would be the punishment that Silus would face under the ancient laws the Emperor is enforcing. Silus agrees. While Crash fell for Silus at first sight, Silus took some time to return the feeling. The Emperor repeals the law to only include adultery and annuls all marriages since he came to power. Crash has Silus kicked out on his father's advice. Silus realizes that he loves Crash and when Crash comes to him again, he admits it and they marry again.

When the new emperor takes power on Laden, Silus knows everything will change – and he’s right. The emperor has declared that all males age eighteen and over must find a mate within the month or else face criminal charges. For Silus, who doesn’t believe love exists and has no interest in being trapped in a monogamous relationship, this decree is unacceptable. When he’s dragged before his judge, the emperor’s son Crash, Silus can’t believe what he’s told. Crash is in danger of violating his father’s rule, so he’s gives Silus an offer he can’t refuse – marry him or die.

Opposites attract in this sexy offering from D.J. Manly. Marry Me or Die is a red-hot read with heart I could not put down. I flat-out adored Crash. His brazenness combined with his romantic nature made him a sweet but strong-willed character, a perfect match for Silus. Silus, though stubbornly refusing to accept that love could be possible (at least in the beginning), was a good balance for the more buoyant Crash. They tempered one another as they both learned what it really means to love someone. I didn’t want to stop reading Marry Me or Die because I so adored Crash and Silus together and wanted to see them get their happily ever after. Fast-paced, fun, and sexy as hell, Marry Me or Die is not to be missed!

I agree with others in that the title is a bit misleading. This is a short and humorous book. It takes place on the planet of Laden, which is very similar to Earth. A new leader has come into power and decided that single people are a threat to the moral fiber of society, therefore, everyone over 18 must marry or die. The new leader's Ron, Crash, has just turned 18 and wants to marry Silus, the beautiful bad boy. Silus doesn't believe in love or marriage but it doesn't take long for the beautiful Crash to make Silus change his mind. This was humorous and I liked the characters. It was a cute, sweet, HEA story.

Sometimes you read a book that has you convulsing with laughter from the moment you pick it up (the title oh so funny). For me, Marry Me or Die is one of those books and this book surprised me in a good way. I put as the best forced/arranged marriage and Silus character remind me with Brian Kinney from QaF :D

Another short and funny story by Manly. The story concept was hilarious, and so were the characters. It's also hot! Ultimately, its a fantasy and the sole purpose of the book is to entertain. It's a mission accomplished by the author. I fully enjoyed this book.

What a hilariously funny book! While the title sounds serious and the subject matter actually is as well, this is a comedy of the best quality! Loved it!

Funny, cute and a nice combination of horny and romantic :) Pretty fairy-tale cheesy overall, but I mean that in a good way.
