This is the most favourite volume of this series. I don't know exactly how many times I've re-read it. The chapter 'Serial John Doe' was just so stunning and melancholic at the same time. I can felt the forlornness of the murder whose name remains unknown until the end of the chapter,. The forlornness caused by the incessant struggle to be 'someone', to be remarkable, to be 'a genius', to be just like Touma. The reason for that is that I might be struggling towards that goal, just like he does.
Yet, in the eyes of genius and remarkable Toma, I can still see the sadness, the sadness. I don't know exactly where does those sadnesses of Touma come from, so I still keep re-reading and contemplating, just to get the message out of it. This chapter , however, does make realized that the most important thing is not to be genius or noteworthy. It's worthless, if your name is known by everyone, but you've got no friends at all. And sadness can eat up anyone, although he's the prodigy graduated from MIT when he's 15.
Every time I get too ambitious, every time I feel like I am an idiot, every time I feel like I'm worthless, I will read this chapter, to remind myself, to pull my soul down to earth. -
