On the night of 31 August 1939, the word ‘blitzkrieg’ was added to the dictionary. The German Luftwaffe was discharging incendiary bombs from the sky, while the Wehrmacht stormed the ground with heavy artillery. The Polish Army made a valiant effort, but they were outweighed in machinery, munitions, and manpower. By 14 September, the invading forces had them surrounded. There was no way out. The final defeat of Poland took place in a marshy area of the Bug River. The document of surrender was signed 6 October 1939. The Poles never accepted the term “Unconditional”.

Resistance Reviews

Just when you think you've read every take on World War II, something fresh and unconventional comes along. In this novel, we are treated to explore the lives of several fictional families within the Occupation of Poland and specifically in Warsaw. Watch how the famed Polish Resistance, truly grows right as you turn the pages. If it sounds like Tolstoy's War and Peace, be not afraid, as the Author has a somewhat unconventional writing style just the opposite to Old Lev/Leo. Ms. McIntyre's chapters are very short, on a few (typically 5 or less) pages each. Despite this, she crams in great detail as to how the Poles built up the Resistance that later became the playbook for overcoming a brutal occupation. Spend a few hours with this book and I assure you you won't regret it. Nor will you ever forget it. Well, done, Regina McIntyre.
