I Heart Hollywood (I Heart, #2) Reviews

"Angela Clark's adventures on the west coast aren't as fun as her previous NYC ones"
(#2 book read for contemporary-a-thon weekend)
Second book syndrome? Yes, I'd say that since I'm 40 pages into the third book (I heart Paris) and seems more on the level of the first book (I heart NY).
The story line dragged on for a while, otherwise I would have finished in a day. The plot is quiet cheesy, "I heart NY" also had some cheesy segments but it was better. I think the problem here is the lack of presence of Angela's boyfriend, Alex. He's almost absent in this book, it's all about Angela's trip to Hollywood, with Jenny Lopez, for an interview with some British actor who's on the spotlight for being super hot, a lady-killer, but turns out to be "in the closet". There's a lot of incoherent misunderstandings that cause Angie to almost lose Alex. Her friend Jenny Lopes is just obnoxious, thank God she decides to move to L.A. permanently, I hope. The plot was not as clever and witty as in the previous book. Too much Jenny and the British douche bag, little Alex screen time. Too many cheesy situations.
I powered through this one, so I could start book #3, the one in Paris. Since I gave the first book four stars is coherent to give this one a 3-star rating. It isn't bad. I liked it, I hope I like the rest of the series more since I bought all of them except the #8. I'm saving book 4 ("I heart Vegas") for the Holiday readathon next month! and book #6 ("I heart Christmas") for Christmas 2020 haha! -
Meh...
I am really enjoying this series as a whole, BUT... Angela hated Hollywood, so it is beyond me why the title is called "I Heart Hollywood."
What I liked:
- The blossoming romance between Alex and Angela. We are somewhat in the dark throughout the book about Alex's real feelings for Angela, but they are brought to light in the end. Which is what every girl dreams about!
- The fantasy of a hot, charming Hollywood movie star falling in "love" with you.
What I didn't like:
- I felt as if James (i.e. actor) went out of his way to ruin Angela's reputation. And why her? It seemed far fetched to me that Angela would be hand chosen to write this article. I felt as though the author sort of glazed over that bit, with a very vague, silly explanation.
- Drinks herself silly a lot. You'd think the girl would learn.
Like I said, I am really enjoying this series. Makes me want to listen to Indie rock bands (i.e. Alex Reid), shop on Rodeo Drive (seriously, when is her credit card going to reach its limit? She's in debt up to her eye balls by now with all her shopping sprees), and TRAVEL! -

Genre: Chick Lit
I really love this series. It reminds me of the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella as it has the same amount of drama and hijinks. Angela, the heroine, is a girl after my own heart and following her on these adventures to places unknown (to her anyways) is always so much fun. In this one, readers will follow Angela to Hollywood as she has a very important job of interviewing a hot celebrity. Unfortunately for Angela, what should have been a quick and easy gig turned into an awful lot of drama... But the experiences are worth it. Aren't they?
Readers who enjoy a fun and quick chick lit read should definitely get their hands on the I Heart series. It's truly a lot of fun and I personally enjoy every single minute of it. Just be aware that in order for you to understand Angela and the series as a whole that you need to read each book in order of publication. The next book within the series start off right where the last one ended. -
Lighthearted funny read.

This book.... has not aged well, if I'm being honest. I did not read it when it was originally released, so I'm reading it in the #metoo era of 2019 and some of it is just plain old ROUGH.
Spoilers below?
Honestly, by the end of the book, I found almost all the characters wholly unlikeable, including Angela. All she did was bitch about hating LA, so the title of "I heart Hollywood" is honestly kind of laughable.
Jenny Lopez is just... wow. . Her friendship with Angela is incredibly toxic for both of them. The way she swings from hot to cold is seriously concerning and not at all cute or acceptable.
ALSOOoooo, man. There's a lot of slut shaming in these books that makes me cringe. Not to mention the attempted rape portion that... woof. It did not take the right direction-- attempted rape is not a cutesy crisis in a relationship, and that's how I felt it was treated.
The use of the word "f*g" by a character is never remarked upon. Seriously. Not even the person being called as such calls it out. Thas not ok.
Gay people are used as plot points and stereotypes. Sorry Blake, you are just the bitchy gay dude. It's like the author has never actually met a real LGBTQ person in their entire life.
As for the plot itself... Why does James like Angela? Why would he choose this writer to be his "beard", so to speak? It doesn't actually make any sense, it's just a conceit for Angela to be caught in a compromising position without it actually being such. Also the dated-ness of "outing" a celebrity. Everything was just bad and wrong. But it's ok, because in the end he bought her a MARC. JACOBS. HANDBAG (gag).
The wanton and shameless brand name dropping is hard to handle. Did you use Touche Eclat, Angela, DID YOU? I know this is a hallmark of chick lit from this period but I still find it irritating.
Also for Goodness sake, Angela, binge drinking so regularly you vomit multiple times in a book IS A PROBLEM. How does this keep happening? I'm concerned for the characters and their drinking habits.
So yeah. I suppose I didn't like this. The first book was OK but this felt like a trash fire to me. -
Angela Clark can't believe her luck - she's an English girl living in New York with a dream job and a sexy boyfriend. Her latest assignment takes her to Hollywood. Will the sun-drenched glamour of Hollywood win her heart?
I want to like these books more but maybe my cold heart is preventing me to. Maybe I lost my Peter Pan never grow up attitude and that's why I don't love these books. I just find part 1 and 2 of this series unrealistic to the point that it's not enjoyable. Part 5 was great and I liked it a lot. I'm still going to read parts 3 and 4 because I can't not finish a series. Hopefully, Lindsey Kelk calms down with the over the top antics. -
а) Описания. Автор так потрясающе и завлекающе описывает города, что я прямо млею. От одного ее описания Нью-Йорка в первой книге у меня текли слюнки и загорались глаза. А здесь она также виртуозно описывает солнечную Калифорнию;
The Mamas and the Papas – California Dreaming -
I don't get why this book is called I Heart Hollywood when all Angela does is talk about how much better New York is and how much LA sucks.
Also, Angela's just too self-centered and selfish for me to care about at all. She might be a realistic portrayal of some women but certainly not one I want to read about, much less root for. She calls her boyfriend a jerk just because he won't spend every moment with her on the phone. Yet she's romping around, getting drunk, treating her friend like dirt, acting like a victim, and daydreaming about making out with a movie star. Ugh. -
In ‘I Heart Hollywood’, Angela goes to Los Angeles to interview a mysterious celebrity, James Jacobs after she is specifically chosen by him. Her friend Jenny tags along and together they drink a lot and have plenty of trouble involving men.
For real.
Once again, everything happens way too easily for Angela and almost the entire book is completely unrealistic. Suspension of disbelief close to a 100% will be required. All Angela does is get drunk repeatedly, waste tons of money on branded goods, remind us that her bag is gorgeous at least a thousand times, cheat on her boyfriend Alex several times (but she doesn’t acknowledge it openly and gets away with her infidelity) and put up with Jenny who crossed the line multiple times.
It infuriated me when Angela found out James’ secret and had the nerve to get angry with him for "embarrassing" her. Excuse me? That coming from someone who lusted over him and was so attracted to him that she willingly spent time alone with him and let him kiss her? That coming from someone who claimed to love her boyfriend and yet cheat on him? The only person she could blame was herself for not being faithful and for behaving completely unprofessionally. To make things worse, she even threatened to reveal his secret to the media because it’s “not a big deal”. For goodness’ sake, it is. It’s his personal choice to tell the world about it, not hers. She was basically blackmailing him and using her job position to make the threat credible. She disgusted me.
The situation with Joe was definitely cheating despite the fact that . She let him kiss her when she knew it was going to happen. Hell, more would’ve followed if she hadn’t passed out. I found it incredibly pathetic that Jenny could be on her side. I don’t expect her to tell on Angela but if you’re truly a friend you wouldn’t encourage such behaviour. Jenny even encouraged her to get closer to James because he’s a celebrity so it’s okay. What the hell?
Angela was in LA for her “interview” yet Jenny got furious at her for not spending time with her and even threw her shoes at her over a stupid argument. Jenny came across as completely unlikeable, selfish, irritating and irresponsible. Funnily enough, those can be applied to Angela as well. I guess that’s why they’re such good friends. In real life, interviews with celebrities don’t involve getting super close to them physically and emotionally. You don’t get to spend a week with them, sometimes one-on-one (no bodyguards or assistants – seriously) and needing a week for an interview. It’d be a lot faster to conduct an interview via e-mail and avoid stupidity and annoying behaviour. Also, no one would suddenly .
I still don’t see how Alex and Angela can be together. They have zero chemistry and no matter how laidback a guy is, his reaction to her suspicious behaviour in LA was terribly far-fetched. He said that he was being unreasonable by questioning her but that was wrong. She was in fact unfaithful and dishonest yet no one pointed that out. No, she gets a fairytale happy ending complete with ribbons, rainbows and sunshine. If she were actually a likeable character who’s intelligent and funny and didn’t cheat, I would be okay with it but in this case, it’s unacceptable.
Overall, this book made me dislike Angela even more and it followed the same pattern as the first book except that it’s set in a different location. Once more, you don’t get the feel of the place – you just get bombarded with brand names and her stupid bag which must surely regret having such a stupid owner. -
It's been 167 years since I read "I heart NY" and, as I forgot most of it, I couldn't entirely connect with the story. Especially the Alex-related bits were a bit problematic. In the beginning he's kind of described as the perfect guy. But as the story develops it became harder and harder to get how he's supposed to be "the one" - and how he "won" in the first book :D His different types of personality and behaviour and stuff just didn't feel consistent enough for me. There's a nice twist towards the end, though.
The same applies to Jenny, she also had some weird changes of mood and everything.
I'm not quite sure about Angela in the first book, but she's such an alcoholic (how about people at her age should know their limits?) and she definitely has more luck than brains...
But well, apart from that there's hot movie star James and their dramatic scandal. Here's also a twist - an interesting one that really made the story resolve in a very satisfactory way. -
I still love these characters and the humour in these books, I literally laugh out loud at some of the stuff said.
This book may have drove me a little crazy with the plot line. Miscommunication, cheating, some of the dudes were douche bags and one character nearly came out in the worst way and that made me a little upset.
Overall I still enjoyed this book but on reread I understand why I remember it being one of my least favourite books in the series! I can't wait to relive book number 3 as the gang in this book just makes me so happy at the end of the day <3 -

I thought I loved I Heart New York, but I’m pretty sure I loved this sequel even more! I Heart Hollywood was fast paced, equally, if not more hilarious and I couldn’t put this fabulous chick lit down.
This novel takes place in just over a week and it speeds along, including a twist I wasn’t expecting. It was laugh out loud funny and I couldn’t help but giggle frequently at Angela’s antics. She’s disheveled, a bit ditzy, and fully flawed, but completely lovable. And it’s not just her character I loved, but all of them. Kelk’s characters are so fully formed and distinct that I felt as if I knew each one, even though the novel is written from Angela’s perspective, and I couldn’t wait to see what they would do next.
I Heart Hollywood is the second installation in this fabulous, must read summer series for chick lit lovers and I can’t WAIT for I Heart Paris due out this July. This book could stand alone without have to read the first novel, but why deny yourself the pleasure! Pick up both these books today! -
I didn't enjoy this book as much as I liked the first one. Most of Angela's time was spent complaining about how much she didn't like LA and how she wished she was back in New York with Alex. In the first book Angela developed a lot she began living by herself and really grew as a person but in this book she seemed to have reverted back to relying on other people. She couldn't even manage a week without Alex.
Alex was also really annoying in this book always jumping to conclusions and not allowing Angela to speak or listening to her when she did speak. When things didn't go ANgela's way she was very quick to start drinking which is slightly worrying behaviour but it is never really addressed in the book.
The story seemed very cliche and I feel that I have read it somewhere before. The first book seemed a lot more fun and enjoyable, but in this one Angela was very annoying. She complained about everything and made everything about her.
I am going to continue with this series as they are quick reads but I really hope that the next one is better. -

I LOVE Lindsey Kelk! The 'I Heart' series is one of the best series that I have read. In this book we follow the main character of the series, Angela Clark to the wonderful land of Hollywood! She is join by her dreamy sexy boyfriend Alex Reid and her crazy funny best friend Jenny Lopez. The characters are amazing they are described so well that it feels like you actually know them, they are the kind of people that would make a great night out, one to remember. The book is very well written in the unique style of Lindsey Kelk that draws you into the book, keeps hold of your attention and by describing the setting so well it feels like you are there and also makes you want to fly there straight away. Something that is unique to her books is that at the back there is a guide to the best shops and places to go in Hollywood. I love the adventure we go on in this book and how we find out more about Angela Clark as we watch her make some hard life decisions. -
This book is a part of the series "I heart..." by Lindsey Kelk. I read the first book and I liked it. Way more than this one. It was more realistic and fun. It was fun to read about NYC, Angela's adventure and her struggling to find her way in this city. I think this sequel is bad. It was nice to read about her in the first book, but in this one no. There's this sentence in
Caitlin's review which I totally agree with: "Angela's just too self-centered and selfish for me to care about at all. She might be a realistic portrayal of some women but certainly not one I want to read about, much less root for." She's too self-centered and childish in every situation. She complains how she loves her boyfriend so much, but she's also willing to think about a relationship with a film star.
I'm going to read the next book, just because I love Paris. I hope there won't be (much of) elementary school behavior. -
Angela's life gets more complicated in the second instalment of the I heart series. Her work takes her to hollywood this time where she finds herself in a sticky situation involving a very famous (georgous) movie star! And some dodgy bar men! All the while trying to figure out whats going on in her boyfriends' brain all the way in New York.
I liked this but there was a few niggly things such as cliches' that were a little too much (they kind of worked in I Heart new york) and got a bit much towards the end. I definatly want to carry on with this series and see what Angela gets up to next. But I hope her best friend Jenny becomes more likeable because she did annoy me so much in this book. -
I don’t enjoy posting negative reviews, so I’m going to keep this one short.
I enjoyed the first book in this series but the level of problematic content in this one (constant diet culture, body shaming, slut shaming, causal discussions around cheating and the use of the F slur three times!) just meant that I could not continue with the series.
I know this is a much enjoyed book series and character but I am tapping out. -
** 4 NOT-SO-GLAMOROUS STARS! **
"It's really easy to say I love you, it's another altogether to explain why."
***
Even though Angela infuriates me with her being weak af around men and her fucking whack excuse of making poor decision, this is a fun story nonetheless. Jenny and Alex make it all okay.
It really is a fun, light, quick read to sink away in when you're in need of something with which you don't need to think too much.
For the rest I haven't got a lot to say about this! -

Celebs, sunshine and beautiful boys…enough to lead a girl astray?
Angela Clark can’t believe her luck… she’s an English girl living in New York with a dream job at hip magazine The Look and a sexy boyfriend.
Her latest assignment takes her to Hollywood to interview hot actor and fellow Brit James Jacobs.Thrown in at the deep end she heads west with best friend Jenny dreaming of Rodeo Drive and Malibu beach.
Soon Angela discovers that celebrity life in Hollywood is not all glamour, gloss and sunshine. Despite his lady-killer reputation, the only person who seems genuine is James.
Then a paparazzi snaps them in an uncompromising position and suddenly Angela is thrust into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons…
Can she convince all those close to her – especially her boss and her boyfriend – not to believe everything they read? And will Hollywood ever win Angela’s heart?
I am a massive fan of Lindsey Kelk. I read I Heart New York back in May 2010 and I absolutely loved it. So I bought I Heart Hollywood right after and decided to devote myself to the I Heart series. What can I say? It's classic chick lit at its best. Well, Lindsey is such a sweetheart and her books are amazing, I have every single one of them. Trust me, they are worth every penny!
I Heart Hollywood started off after where I Heart New York ended, Angie is with Alex, the sexy boy band rocker who quickly became a really lovely male character in the series. Angie was assigned to go to the City of Angels to interview fellow Brit actor, James Jacobs. Well, Angie's off to another adventure! Hurrah! Leaving behind the blizzards in NYC, she and Jenny headed over to LA, sunshine paradise.
Personally, I loved Angie. She's such a warm character, her being incredibly British made me love her more, she was humble, aloof though a bit naive but that was what made me love her more! She dealt with her problems in LA with such grace, you'd laugh at every page. As usual, I loved Angie for her charm and sometimes very sarcastic remarks, which reflects the author's thoughts very clearly. Aside from Angie, I really liked Jenny Lopez, man alive, that woman can do anything. Traipsing around LA with Jenny, Angie's adventure in LA was a real blast to read. There's James, the famous Hollywood star who I thought would be the perfect guy for Angie if she were to fall out with Alex, but a shocking surprise will make you think otherwise.
Los Angeles, I have dreamt of visiting the sunny paradise since I was younger, but soon realised it's all glossy and glitzy like magazine spreads. And the paps! Ugh! No thank you! Though it was the perfect setting for a lovely summer read, I'd rather choose New York or Paris or London. Coincidentally, Angie and I felt LA was a bit too fake. I particularly enjoyed her shopping trip on Rodeo Drive, which she couldn't afford but what are the perks of having a Hollywood megastar as a friend?
Overall, I loved it. I love the glitz and glamour Hollywood had to offer. I loved the shopping. I loved Angie, in LA, lost as usual. Everything about the I Heart series has to be loved and will fulfil you with its magic. -
Book Review: I Heart Hollywood @ai-books
I heart Hollywood is the second of three books in Lindsey Kelks I Heart series. I was hooked to read on Angela’s adventure after the first book, I Heart New York. Well, I did read the fourth book first. I guess, that lead me to wanting to read the rest of the series.
I liked James Jacob and his assistant, Blake from the very first start. The conversation between Angela and James was funny most of the time. Although, I have to say that Angela’s characterization in the second book was a bit out of place as compared to the first one. In the first one, Lindsey Kelk had showed us the strong point of Angela. And in the second book, we’ve get to see the weaker point of Angela. I thought that it was okay though. I mean, everyone had their strong and weakest moment.
I love Angela and Alex relationship in the book. It was sweet when they both were being stubborn about who would say the ‘L’ word first. I’m sure there might be a time where we had the same moment where we were afraid that we might scare the other party with the confession. I know I did! I guess, I kind of knew how Angela felt.
I love the second book! I think it was better than the first one. It was funny and sweet! It got me smiling (or grinning like an idiot) for a few times while reading. I am now convinced that Lindsey Kelk is one of my favorite authors. Can’t wait to read the third book! -
I love the Angela Clark books, they are so hilarious. Angela is given the opportunity to fly to LA to interview movie star James Jacobs for the magazine The Look. Along the way
-
A quick and easy read. It is funny like I Heart New York but I didn't like it quite as much. A little frustrating at times (especially our heroine and her best friend Jenny). Things seem to just fall in their laps and all they do is complain and get drunk (mostly). The twist concerning James was good, but some of the characters, like Jenny and Angela, were not as likeable as in the first book. They have no freaking idea what they want, Angela doesn't know who she wants, what are they doing. I felt like they are teenager sometimes...
I still quite want to read the next installment I Heart Paris. I hope that it it lives up to the first book rather than this one. -
Meh. This was not near as good as the first one. The first one had a great story that brought you in. This one didn’t have that. It definitely picked up in the middle and had its Lindsey Kelk wit and charm but it’s not my favourite. I really struggle with the idea of the series because I dislike the male main character. I’m rooting for the opposite of what I know is going to happen. I will likely read the next one but I’m not sold on the entire series and I usually love her books so much.
-
Toppertje!
-
This book was so much fun. Kelk really knows how to put some hysterical drama in her plots. I am looking forward to the rest of the series.
