Emmaline Marlowe is about to wed the extremely powerful laird of the Hepburn clan to save her father from debtor's prison when ruffian Jamie Sinclair bursts into the abbey on a magnificent black horse and abducts her in one strong swoop. Though he is Hepburn's sworn enemy, Emma's mysterious captor is everything her bridegroom is not: handsome, virile, dangerous . . . and a perilous temptation for her yearning heart.
Jamie expects Emma to be some milksop English miss, not a fiery, defiant beauty whose irresistible charms will tempt him at every turn. But he cannot allow either one of them to forget he is her enemy and she his pawn in the deadly Highland feud between the clans. So why does he still want her so badly for himself? Stealing his enemy's bride was simple, but can he claim her innocence without losing his heart.

DEATH OF ROMANCE: A PLAY IN ONE ACT
CAST:
Emmaline: A sheltered English lass with a tender young body, very smart
Jamie: A barbaric Highlander with the body of a god and a painful secret hidden in his past
Lord Hepburn: A horny old man with a fondness for tender young lasses, very evil
Vinaya: A bewildered reader
SCENE 1 - A church wedding
Emma: Oh, it's my wedding day! I am about to sacrifice myself at the altar so my gambling, debt-ridden father and hapless mother and sisters don't lose their beloved family home...
Lord Hepburn: I wonder if this circus will end soon so I can make good use of the "mangy sporran hanging between my legs"!
Emma: Oh, can I bear to submit my virgin body to this horny but sweet old man who has given me so many pretty things already?! Yes, because there is no-one else in my family who can bear this burden! I shall be brave!
(Church doors crash open and massive Highland barbarian enters on a horse)
Emma: Oh no! I am going to be killed before I am ever de-flowered! Ooooh, look at the muscles on that man, I wonder if he'll be any good in bed?
Lord Hepburn: If you have come to kill me, do it now, you mangy cur!
Jamie: I am a mon, hear me ROAR!
(gallops off after tossing Emma onto his horse)
SCENE 2 - A forest in the Highlands
Emma: I have been kidnapped by this (strangely well-educated) barbarian (with the Scottish accent that comes and goes), but I shall face my fate with spirit. It is the only way to tame a Scottish reiver, after all!
Vinaya: But didn't reiving go out in the 1700s, along with clan feuds?
Emma: Stop annoying me with useless facts I could have gotten from Wikipedia and just look at the muscles on that man! I wonder if he'll be any good in bed?
Jamie: I am a mon, hear me ROAR!
Emma: Are you going to molest me and return me well fooked? *shivers pleasurably* But then who will save my helpless family? No, I must run away and save myself!
(runs into Jamie's arms and gets thoroughly kissed)
Emma: Can I get some more of that? No, wait, I must think of my family and my adorably dried-up bridegroom! Come kiss me again!
Jamie (kissing her some more): I am a mon, hear me ROAR!
SCENE 3 - A cottage in the Highlands
Emma: I am so glad I got to sit in a hot bath and have erotic images of this well-muscled Highlander with a broad chest and slabs of muscle. I am so ashamed that I am sitting here imagining him naked, even though I have never seen a naked man before and don't know how they look! But still... with all those muscles, I wonder if he'll be good in bed?
(Goes to the window and spots Jamie kissing a buxom Scottish maid)
Emma: How dare he try to have sex with another, hotter woman even though I have refused to sleep with him, and pointed a pistol at his heart and tried to run away from him!
(Enter Jamie)
Emma: I'm never talking to you again, you man-whore!
Jamie: But I didn't sleep with her! I kissed her passionately and then told her I was too tired to follow through! See, I am a mon, hear me ROAR!
Vinaya: But if you don't love Emma and are determined not to follow through on your attraction, why wouldn't you sate yourself on the nearest available (buxom, stunning) Scottish lass?
Jamie: I am a ... man. Hear me... roar....
Emma: Oh, fuck it all, those muscles are just too tempting, let's go have some sex!
(They make out)
Emma: No, no this is too unfair to my poor family, I can't do this, get away from me!
Vinaya: Cock-tease!
SCENE 4 - Another forest in the Highlands
Emma: This forest is so spooky, and all the brave Scottish Highlanders (except my extra-brave Jamie, of course!) are so shit scared of it. There must be some mystery here.
Jamie: The tragic events of my secret past are entombed in this shrouded forest. This is the reason I would rather ask for a ransom than sink my hard rod into your nubile young body. I can't tell you what ransom I need however, because I am a mon, hear me ROAR!
Emma (sobs): Obviously your deep, dark secrets mean we can NEVER be together!
Jamie: I am a mon, hear me ROAR!
Emma: Let me alleviate your secret pain with some wild monkey sex!
(R-rated sex scene)
SCENE 5 - The Hepburn has agreed to pay the ransom. The Sinclairs are waiting in the forest clearing)
Jamie: Where's my ransom?
Hepburn's nephew: Here are the massive amounts of gold you have demanded. Return the Hepburn's bride immediately!
Jamie: Yes, please, take that cock-tease off my hands, I'm sick of her! Even though this is not my ransom demand, anything is better than to have to stay with that woman one more day!
(Emma trudges sadly towards Hepburn's nephew)
Jamie: No, wait, I love you after all! Come back! There's a bad man waiting to shoot you in the tree!
Vinaya: So, Jamie, you have finally realised that Emma is infinitely precious to you! How did this happen? What is it you love about her? Her spirit? Her courage? Her cooking skills?
Jamie (scratches head in bewilderment): Well, she has these small breasts that feel so good against my hard back while I'm riding (my horse). And I guess sex with her is better than with all the sheep she keeps accusing me of fucking. And, well, you know, there are her breasts. And the sex. I am a mon, hear me ROAR!
(Evil Hepburn minion shoots Emma)
Jamie: No, Emma, don't die! If you die, who will sleep with a hunka burnin' love like me? I love you after all, and to save you from bleeding to death from the bullet wound on your shoulder, I am going to toss you on my horse and ride for an entire day over the roughest terrain in Scotland to take you to my murderous grandfather! If you survive this ordeal, well, we can have more sex!
SCENE 6 - A keep in Scotland
Jamie: I am betrayed! I have no more capacity for love! Go back to your country, Emma, where you can be publicly vilified as a wanton and a fallen woman. This is every girl's dream, after all, and proof of my great love for you (that I am not willing to acknowledge right now)!
Emma: Oh well, I'll just go back and marry that horny but rich old man then! But don't feel betrayed, Jamie, I still love you, it is just part of an elaborate plot to denounce him at the altar and get the redcoats to arrest him, although the same end could be achieved much less publicly and in a less vulgar manner by presenting the evidence to the redcoats in private.
Jamie: Well then, let's have some sex!
SCENE 7 - A Church Wedding
Narrator: The drama is all ended, the evil old man is dead and Jamie and Emma are about to be married and live happily ever after.
Minister: (drone about the Holy Bible)
Emma: Oh look at all the muscles on that man! I KNEW he'd be good in bed!
Jamie (ripping the book from the minister's hand): Dude, are we about done here, because I really need to go have some sex! I am a mon, hear me ROAR!

I have been reading many books by popular romance novel author Teresa Medeiros, but I have never read a romance novel quite like this one! “The Devil Wears Plaid,” not to be confused with “The Devil Wears Prada,” is Teresa Medeiros’ newest historical romance novel and it has enough adventure, drama, shocking secrets and sizzling romance that have overtaken all the other romance novels with style!
Emmaline Marlowe (Emma for short) was about to be married to the laird of the Hepburn clan to save her family from landing in debtor’s prison when the wedding is gate crashed by a handsome tough guy called Jamie Sinclair, who ends up kidnapping Emma and takes her to the highlands. Jamie claims that he is using Emma to get what was stolen from him from the Hepburn clan, but will Emma eventually cause Jamie to fall in love with her?
Oh my goodness! There are so many awesome things to say about this book! This is clearly Teresa Medeiros’ best book ever created since it has everything that you would find in an excellent book – drama, adventure, suspense and a full blown romance that will blow any romance fan away! Teresa Medeiros has done an awesome job at creating a story about dark secrets and forbidden love and I loved the way that Teresa Medeiros has put the most shocking moments in this book, which regarded Jamie’s dark past, in the right places without making the moments too over the top and more surprising to read about. I also loved the action scenes throughout this book as I was seriously holding on this book for dear life wondering if Jamie and Emma would ever escape from all the obstacles that they have to face throughout their journey. Now let us discuss about the best part of this book, the characters! I loved the character Emma, even though I will admit she did sort of annoyed me whenever she acts like she is better than everyone else, but she is also shown as being a strong and independent heroine who did not let Jamie’s rash actions get the best of her. Emma always speaks her mind about the situation she is thrown into and I also loved her intelligence as she uses her wits to get her out of various situations and help out Jamie and his men. Another character I really loved was Jamie Sinclair, who is seriously the best “bad-boy” outlaw I have ever read in any romance novel as he can be both ruthless yet caring at the same time. I will admit at first that I was a bit uncomfortable about Jamie kidnapping Emma for his own reasons, but after I saw how kind and brave (and muscular) he really is, I started to really love his character! Also, when I found out about Jamie’s dark past, I really sympathized with him since his secret is so unexpected, that you have to read this book yourself to feel the full impact! I also loved how Jamie and Emma’s love came to be as they fought with each other at first, but they eventually got closer together once they uncovered each other’s dark secrets and I loved the way that Jamie always tried to save Emma from any kind of trouble on their journey.
There are many sex scenes in this book, so anyone who does not like sex scenes might want to skip over the sex scenes in this book.
Overall, “The Devil Wears Plaid” is a truly brilliant romance novel that every romance fan and Teresa Medeiros fan should definitely check out!

This book had a lot of the old cliched plot devices, a gruff Highlander on horseback barging in on a wedding, kidnapping the bride, holding her for ransom...you get the picture. But you know, for being cliches, I've actually only ever read one story where the hero barged in on a wedding (Karen Marie Moning's
To Tame a Highland Warrior). So for me, this was all new.
The beginning cracked me up because our heroine Emmaline is being married off to some old goat (pardon) ahem, a randy old goat, to save her father from debtor's prison. What was so funny is that she's 22 and the audience is talking about how lucky she is to be marrying the old earl, and how old she is,and how she's very lucky the old earl has enough experience in bed ::snicker:: to satisfy her.
But alas, as they are saying their vows, several men burst in with guns, and the man on horseback, Jamie Sinclair, tells the old earl he's here for his bride. he abducts Emma and takes her high into the mountains where the earl's men will never find them.
The majority of this story takes place while on the run, and Emma has known nothing but a kindly old man who wants an heir, whilst Jamie knows the true evil in the old goat's soul.
I actually think it got a bit slow towards the middle, but once the two realized they were in love, and he was still going to ransom her off, it really picked up!
Since the earl had been suspected of killing Jamie's parents when he was a babe, Jamie wanted proof. It came from a very unlikely source, and it was so not what we were expecting!!! In a "wow," way, not in an "out of left field" kind of way.
But the oh so predictable ending I'd predicted was...Wrong!
I was totally surprised at what had happened and I was soo endeared to Ian, the old earl's great-nephew and Jamie's best friend when they were younger. (there's a long story there, that I was incredibly happy with the outcome)
And watching Emma blossom under the kidnapping ordeal was great. She changed just enough to stay true to her character.
The ending was a bit of a muddle, thought IMHO. I think the ending with Jamie, Emma and Ian was brilliant, however, the old earl's comeuppance was a bit much. And too easy. Hence, the muddle.
But I'd re-read this one, and definitely suggest to other fans in need of a good Highland romance. -
Wasn't hating it, but wasn't seeing any compelling reason to keep reading it either. And the repetitiousness of the language was a bit much... everyone and everything was so young and tender, it was like reading an ad for chicken.

The back blurb for this book is somewhat misleading. First off it’s not a medieval Highlander romance but more of regency kind of historical with Highlanders. You’re not really told either way in the book summary but I felt that the tone leant more to the medieval side than the regency side so this was a little confusing to set the story at the beginning. Apart from that, yes you’ve got your sexy, dangerous Highlander who abducts the proper, duty bound English bride of his arch nemesis from a rival clan but what you don’t really have is the sharp-tongued English bride described. You’re led to believe that a lot of sparks are going to fly between these two because she’s supposed to be Miss Lippy and he’s supposed to be a take-no-crap alpha. Well the sparks are more like hand-held firecrackers that sputter and die more times than not so if you’re expecting a tug of war love/hate theme you won’t be getting that here. That said, it’s relatively well-written for the most part.
To save her family from ruin Emma has to marry the octogenarian laird/earl of the Hepburn clan. He’s an icky geezer and she’s a pretty young thing. While at the wedding service Jamie Sinclair from the hated Sinclair clan storms the abbey and kidnaps the bride. He keeps her in the highlands until his ransom is met. As time goes by the attraction starts to build and slowly they realize that they want to be with each other but Jamie has some nasty old ghosts plaguing him so it’s mighty hard to forget that and decide to live the HEA with Emma. While they’re dancing the “get to know you” jig, the earl is planning his revenge and he’s a slippery old goat that one with more than a few surprises in store for them .
For nearly half of the book the story moves along well, building some good sexual tension between the h/h, but once you hit that halfway marker it's very predictable and follows the same ol’ same ol’ pattern that all the other kidnapper/hostage romances seem to do. What keeps the story interesting is the mystery behind how Jamie’s parents died. That was good and quite moving at times. There are some parts that are funny and some that are a little sad or they tug at the heart strings but it’s never quite enough, only touching on something that could’ve been developed just a bit more to be really good. Sometimes the writing is a long on the narration but it’s more of a show than tell style which saved it from feeling endless. The steam scenes are very well-done with just enough description to make you catch your breath a time or two and the build-up to them will also have you sighing. Jamie is a fabulous whisperer ;) The epilogue was good in that it came full-circle and repeated the start to the book. It’ll no doubt put a big smile on your face especially the old bitties and their blow like the wind chattering.
Out of the two main characters I really liked Jamie. He’s a slow, sizzle and burn kind of hero who goes after what he wants most of the time and doesn’t let things stand in his way. There’s the odd wavering but he quickly gets back on the straight and narrow and takes matters into his own hands. As for the heroine, she has her moments but I’d have liked to have seen more independence or fighting the attraction she had for Jamie a little longer.
So the story has some good parts and if you haven’t read a lot of romances you may really like it, but if you have read “a few” you’ll likely have that tired “seen it all before” feel making this just an ok+ read. -
This was the first book that I have read by Teresa Medeiros and I was thoroughly impressed and entertained! 5 big stars!!!!
What could be better than a story that takes place in the Highlands? How about a story where the hero, who happens to be a verra sexy Highlander, kidnaps the heroine of the story!!! I LOVE a romance with a kidnapping! And this one was very well written with lots of witty dialogue and steamy lovin'!
So if you've never read a Teresa Medeiros book, then grab this one up and read it! If you have read her books before then you know what she is capable of and can look forward to this one!!
Jamie Sinclair:
-
Recap: Emmaline Marlowe, an English miss, is forced through family & financial difficulties to wed the decrepit, old laird of Clan Hepburn. On her wedding day, she is kidnapped straight from the altar by Jamie Sinclair, heartbreaker and lawbreaker of the Highlands. So begins their wild & tumultuous adventures.
My Thoughts:
Originally I had issues with our heroine, Emma. She was fully prepared to condemn Jamie based on his past history & her naive devotion to her betrothed. Because of this, she did alot of TSTL-too stupid to live-things in the beginning of this novel. But I ended up forgiving her that because her heart was in the right place & she jumped on Jamie's side once she found out the truth about her fiance. Emma was a very likeable heroine when the reader got to know her. She was spunky, independent, stubborn, quirky & most admirable, not afraid to do what needs to be done to protect those she loves. Watching-or reading- her wade through her befuddled feelings for Jamie was a joy. After my initial bad impression of her, I began to warm up to her because of these qualities.
As for Jaimie, just...*sigh* He was everything I love in a historical romance hero. He was courageous, intelligent, comical, romantic, rugged & had a strong sense of justice. He fully believed that because of his actions-present & past-he didn't deserve a woman like Emma, which caused him to fight his attraction almost to very end. Not to say that Jamie was the perfect hero. Sometimes he could be downright pigheaded & unwilling to look at things from others point-of-views. He infuriated me upon occasion because of these aspects of his personality, but he always found a way to make me forgive him with his rakish smile & undeniable charm. I felt that he & Emma complimented each other exceptionally well.
I was prepared to dislike this novel before reading it. Medeiros is one of my favorite historical romance authors but I haven't enjoyed many of her latest works. But she surprised me by going back to her roots with TDWP & reminded me of why I adore her. This novel is packed with romance, intrigue, adventure, humor & astonishing twists & turns. I became completely involved with the characters-both major & minor-& found myself cheering them on through triumph & crying with them through pain. I am so happy that I was pushed into giving Medeiros another try, proving that whatever made her older romances so wonderful, girlfriend still has it.
For those new to this author, I'd like to recommend some of my favorites by her. I've read 18 out of 20 of her published novels & these are the ones I've reread time & again:
Once an Angel,
The Bride and the Beast,
A Whisper of Roses,
Nobody's Darling,
Heather and Velvet &
Yours Until Dawn. I hope you come to love this amazing author as much as I do. -
Many of us have these favorite tropes in each genre that we keep returning to, irrespective of the number of books that have been already read. Forced weddings, kidnapped heroines, romance with a captive character are all some of the tropes that I absolutely love in historical romances. The Devil Wears Plaid has the added charm of being set in the Scottish Highlands, my most treasured place in the world.
Teresa Medeiros weaves a delightful and steamy romance in The Devil Wears Plaid. Jamie Sinclair is on a mission to retrieve the one thing in the world that he wants at any cost and if kidnapping the new bride of Hepburn is the only way, then he’s ready to do it. Emmaline is gathering her strength to be sacrificed, ahem, I mean to be wedded to an old goat but of course, the kidnapper is dashing and sexy so there’s no problem in being abducted…LOL!
Jokes aside, the story has a lot of fun moments and a dash of intrigue with the past of Jamie being unraveled in bits and pieces. Emma is resourceful, questioning every single thing that is being thrown at her feet and there’s a gentle and sweet growth in love between Jamie and Emma with desire and passion burning in their hearts.
Now for all those readers who have been reading similar stories over the years, there’s nothing particularly new in the subject but the author does a fairly good job in presenting the past with suspense and a surprising twist at the end.
Go for it for some sexy highlander drooling 😉 😉 😉 -
*heavy sigh* Beautiful story...
Thanks to Greta, my vision of Hepburn is forever tainted. I will now see Mr. Burns from the Simpsons because that is really the perfect description of the decrepit old man our heroine Emma must marry to keep her family out of the poorhouse.
Imagine a young, duty-bound, girl standing at the altar as her wedding vows are about to be recited. She is staring at the old geezer and looking at his false teeth. What thoughts go through her mind? Bet she never saw this coming: A handsome, muscled, highlander on horseback coming to take her away. Sounds like a dream come true, right?
Emma is carried off by Jamie Sinclair. Jamie’s family has had a feud with the Hepburns for a very long time. Jamie whisks Emma away, up into the highlands. So begins the start of a beautiful relationship with much resistance and heaving bosoms.
Emma’s character was a little naïve and trusting for my tastes at the beginning of the book. By the end of the book, I adored Emma for her ability to scheme and plot. Let’s not forget Jamie, that gorgeous hunk of highlander. Jamie - hmmm I’m at a loss for words. Let’s just say YUM.
This book was fun to read, especially if you like highlanders on horseback. Some memorable moments included some cute jokes about sheep, and talking about mothers while making love….. -
I know some of you will love this one. Me I found it good, I get tired of the same old virgin routine, this is why I stay from historical romance so much just about every time I pick one up it has the virgin heroine and the hero has all the women he wants before and during it just drives me crazy. This one you get a little robin hood and the McCoy’s and the Hatfield’s going on. It has a excellent start and its very funny at times.
Emmaline finds herself taken by Jamie Sinclair on her wedding day. Little does she know Jamie and her was to be husband Hepburn family has been true enemies for a very long time. Jamie also helps others out that finds themselves in the clenches of the Hepburn’s . What Emmaline doesn’t expect was to fall for someone like Jamie. -
-
Welps, I've fallen for another highlander. (shhh! Don't tell my husband!)
Set to marry a grody old dude because her pops is a drunk and squandered away their moneys Emma is in a tragic state of affairs. Before the "I do's" are said and her breath reeks of denture cream Emma at the ripe old of 21 is swept away on a bucking stallion by a hunk-a-monk broody of a highlander named Jamie.
Mmmmmmm.... Jamie ;)
Now, I personally cheered here. Sure sure sure.... this is uber bad for Emma's family because once she marries the smelly (I assume he smells... most old dudes in the past probably had a bit of funk on them) old coot she'll get to live a life of luxury and her parents will debt free.... BUT THINK OF THE COOTIES and the nightly changing of Depends!
Noes noes noes! I much rather see Emma with a strapping young man with a bronze chiseled chest and flowing hair and a Scottish brogue that will make my toes curl.
This is when I came to the conclusion that in my next life I want to marry a Scottish immigrant (even if he just uses me for a Green Card) so he can read me trashy highlander novels ;)
This book is a bit fluffy at times but I really dug that. After reading a couple of the most depressing books in the world (yet awesome books), I was very happy to get lost in a land of Scottish noms, bodices, and an evil villain that reminded me of Mr. Burns.
It was a fun read that was filled with humor (sheep), gasping (omg moments), and noms (sculpted abs).
I totally recommend this book to anyone who needs a yummy pick-me-up. You won't be disappointed :)
Because everything in a kilt is more delicious :) -

Quando Jamie Sinclair aparece montado a cavalo e rapta a jovem noiva do líder do clã Hepburn, o inferno desce à terra e a verdadeira guerra vai começar.
I'm not sure exactly how much I actually liked this one, so I'm going it 2.5 stars, somewhere between "I liked it" and "It was OK".
What I liked about it:
- The melodramatic church-storming-bride-snatching by men-in-kilts bit was actually pretty good. It's a pretty cheesy idea, but it's well-written and I didn't once think "Oh, for God's sake!"
- The way the Scottish accent is written in. It's incredibly well-done.
- The hero - sigh. He's just wonderful. If only there really were men in kilts like him, the entire female population of the world would probably decamp to Scotland just to get a piece.
- The heroine - I thought she was pretty good. She was doing what she had to do in marrying the Earl, but even she could see that it could have ended up OK for her, after the old buzzard kicked the bucket. I liked that she was a woman of sense and of practical ability.
- The secondary characters - I have to admit, I probably liked the secondary characters even better than the hero and heroine. The hero's cousin, and the Earl's nephew, in particular, have some great lines, and really make the story for me. Without them, it would have been pretty dreary, and I actually wish more had been made of them.
- The plot was pretty good. Some twists and turns, some unexpected events. It worked.
What I didn't like so much:
- The heroine's family - I really struggled when they were painted to be so awful. I didn't believe that the heroine's sisters would have been so useless, or dim-witted, in comparison to the heroine when their fortunes had taken such a tumble, and the heroine's assessment of her father was unfair, I felt. Yes, he turned to alcohol to drown his sorrows, but he didn't seem a horrible, uncaring, unloving man, and selling off daughters for cash was common practice.
- In one minute, the heroine is so naive she doesn't know what a penis is, and in the next, she "understands" that a man can sexually pleasure a woman without penetration? What!? Er, no. She's either naive or she isn't. Likewise, the heroine's mother has given her the old Wifely Duties speech, explaining what has to happen for conception, but the heroine "understands" there are ways to avoid conception. I just didn't buy this at all.
- The night of the loss of the heroine's virginity, she and the hero are at it like rabbits all night long. All I could think of was "ouch, I bet that'll smart in the morning"
- The hero and the Earl's nephew have had dealings before, which was fine. But apparently, the hero managed to keep secret from the Earl's nephew exactly who he was FOR YEARS. This is just so silly, I nearly laughed. They would have known who the other was immediately, since they would have been referred to by their surnames, not nicknames, and anyone with the name "Sinclair" would have belonged to the Sinclair clan.
So, 2.5 stars. Meh. -
All I can say is WOW this author really knows how to grab your attention!!!
Usually when I read a book it often takes a few chapters before I really get into what is going on with the characters not so with this book.
The heroine of the book young Emmaline Marlowe, is standing at the alter about to be wed to an 80 yr old Laird to save her family from financial ruin. With second thoughts running thru her head about the wedding, but knowing she has no choice, she is about to say her vows when the abbey doors are thrown open and a group of armed ruffians burst in. The leader of this motley gang actually has the audacity to ride his big black horse right into the abbey and down the aisle toward the bride and groom.
The rider of the horse turns out to be none other than Jamie Sinclair the sworn enemy of the groom. When Jamie actually kidnaps Emma, she isn't sure what will happen but the one thing she knows is she is relieved to have her wedding interrupted.
All of this action happened by the eleventh page of the book. The story just keeps getting better from there. The storyline keeps moving at such a quick pace with action, drama, suspense, romance, mystery, along with a humorous edge, the verbal sparring between Emma and Jamie actually had me laughing out loud on a few occasions. that I was captivated until the last page.
I couldn't put this book down, I stayed up till 2 am finishing it, even though I had to be at work by 8 am. It was just that good! There was no way that I was putting it down until I knew how Emma and Jamie's story finished.
I easily rate this book a five and would say if you get the chance Read It.
Even though I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher in exchange for a review it in no way alters my opinion of this book. -
This book is a fun historical romance. Light and fun and full of roguish romance. It starts out in the typical way. Man steals woman to make another suffer, man finds woman surprisingly attractive, woman finds man surprisingly attractive, both find themselves in each others arms and win over the bad man she was about to be married. Now, yes, I did just basically tell you the story, but that formula is as old as perhaps the castle under contention. :) What I liked about this story is that the woman has her own mind and finds strength within her capture. Even though she does rely on Jamie's physical prowess to keep her safe, her wits and inner strength keep her up to the challenge of a bunch of burly men and the highland wilderness. Yes, I liked Emma. She was a good match for Jamie. You don't always find that within these types of stories. I also loved Jamie although there were times I could hit him over the head for being so stubborn.
All in all I give this book 4 stars. It's a fun, light historical romance. If you love a roguish man in a kilt, sexy time in an abandoned church you will enjoy this book. -
This is a nice little Highland romance from
Teresa Medeiros. Nothing too serious but not quite in the "light hearted" category either.
Emmaline is abducted from the altar by her betrothed's sworn enemy in an ongoing attempt to right a wrong between feuding families. Admittedly Emmaline isn't exactly despondent, her husband-to-be is in his 80s, but she's marrying to save the family from destitution so she feels a somewhat misguided mission to escape and find her "beloved" and set things right.
Jamie kidnaps Emmaline thinking he can negotiate a "ransom" for her and achieve his goal of revenge upon the hated 'Hepburn'. Things don't quite go as he plans however. He's angry at Emmaline for selling herself upon the altar yet also drawn to her family loyalty.
If you're looking for a tried and true "highland romance" with most of the cliche's but none of the TSTL moments, I'd recommend this one.

Another delicious Scottish romance to tuck away for a later rereading. In The Devil Wears Plaid, the hero becomes "the devil you can't live with, but can't live without." He is, of course, scorching hot! Who can resist a devilishly handsome, sexually potent man with the name "Sin?" :-) What I loved the most about this romance was the heroine and her pluckiness, her emotional strength, and her ability to challenge this strong, viral hero at every turn. As strong as the heroine was, however, I still could sympathize with her plight and admire the sacrifices she made. Sacrifices that at first made her appear weak and subservient, but she is gradually introduced as something else entirely. It made for some very entertaining interactions between the h/h. In typical Teresa Medeiros fashion, the passionate attraction between the h/h scorched the pages. A wickedly scrumpious read not to be missed! :-)

Wow...this book was amazing! I love Jamie and Emma's story. He comes riding on his horse up the aisle of the church to snatch Emma away in the middle of her wedding(her groom was a creepy old laird). What a beginning. As the story moves along Jamie and Emma start to care for one another. Their love story is so sweet.
Medeiros did a fantastic job of weaving the love story together with the mysteries in this book. She surprised me twice in the story. That's always a good thing to have things pop up in the book that you weren't expecting.
Once you pick this book up you will have a hard time putting it down. I got irritated with myself because I had to lay it down so I could get some sleep. :-p -
3.5 stars
For a fun read, a la Tessa Dare, this is much too serious in places. For a serious read, it’s too exaggerated, too over-the-top. It’s genuinely amusing in places, but tries too hard to be amusing in others. This author writes beautiful prose but the egregious overuse of the descriptor “tender” is downright glaring. Her “tender young body,” her “tender” scalp, her “tender” this, her “tender” that. Everything about her is tender. Is the author providing a secret drinking game? Or does this just need some editing?
Worst of all, though I found the story interesting, I was never emotionally engaged. No matter how talented a romance writer is, that’s job 1. -
this was like if AI wrote a romance novel. Or maybe did some plot mad libs. I love ms medeiros but this was genuinely terrible

Putting her families needs first, Emmaline Marlow agrees to marry the Laird of the Hepburn Clan, continually reminding herself that this is for her family helps ease the sickening feeling she looks at her future husband who is three times her age. Resigned to a tedious life, Emma is shocked when Highlander Jamie Sinclair interupts the nuptials and kidnaps the bride.
Jamie planned on kidnapping the bride and holding her for ransom, wanting a possession he has never been able to retrieve in return. He figured the lady would be so frightened and meek that it would be easy to keep her captive, what he got though was a tempered lass who has no qualms sharing her feelings or devising new ideas to drive him mad in wanting her.
Thoroughly fun read, Emma has several surprises in store for Jamie. Everytime he thinks he is one up on her, she figures a way to outwit him. Love a great book that has spark to it. -
This was pretty cute, I only had problems with the translation in some places where it felt somewhat stilted

I have to admit, usually this is not a book I would have scooped up to read. So why did I really do so this time? To be brutally honest with you all, I picked it up because I was trying to complete a reading challenge of reading a book that had something in the title to imply color. Silly reason right? I am very glad I did pick it up though. It may have been outside my normal reading comfort box, but it was a great joy to read and I just loved it. Who knew! Emma is such a headstrong woman and such a great character. When added with Jamie, another wonderful headstrong character there are simply fireworks all throughout the book! The plot was new to me as far as the more historical setting, but I found myself enjoying it. It was not written in such a way that it seemed to be taking place back in time, so much as just an easy book to read. The whole deal of a man kidnapping his family's rival's bride to be from their wedding and then falling for her in the meantime, may seem a bit cliche, but I assure you it is done in such a way that you can't help but get sucked into it all. All the details and wonder of why these men are at odds and why Emma would agree to marry the earl in the first place just keep you reading on, if for nothing else but to figure out the whys of the whole situation. Then you add in all the characters and it's magic. Emma and Jamie are the main characters that I came to just love. As they are developed in the book, you come to realize why they are the way they are. I started to feel connected to them and couldn't wait to see how the author drew up their lives and where they went. The writing of the book may have been a bit overwhelming to some because of the Scottish tint to it, but I rather liked it. There was just something about it that drew me in and made it all seem so romantic and entertaining. Maybe it was just the "accent" that I could hear in my head as I read the book, but I just loved it. The details, descriptions, and flow of this book were wonderful for me. Being a longer book, I was a bit worried that it would fizzle out for me or it would contain a lot of "fluff" in the pages, but it really didn't. I found it to be an easy read and one that I just couldn't put down. If you are into a bit of romance with suspense and drama, this is the book for you. I highly suggest giving it a try!

Emmaline, out of duty and obligation, consented to marry the Earl of Hepburn, but knew in her heart she could never love him. Emmaline knows that marrying the powerful laird, she is only saving her family from ruin, and after sacrificing so much of herself for her family, she is also willing to marry a stranger in order to secure their future. But right before she says her vows, a dangerous highlander, enemy to her groom to be, kidnaps her. He is opposite of her groom in every way, handsome, virile, and sexy. Especially at first Emmaline is outraged at being taken by this highlander, however she knows that there is more to meet the eye when it comes to Jamie Sinclair and his men. So Emmaline starts to doubt what she previously had thought about the Earl and starts to believe and trust in the outlaw, scoundrel and man of her heart....James Sinclair
The Devil Wears Plaid, is a bit different scenery from all the other books that Teresa Medieros has written. The Devil Wears Plaid is a powerful story of two people that were so different from each other, but yet so right for one another. At the beginning of the story we see Emmaline and Jamie collide in tempers and passions, but as events surrounding them only escalate in danger and mystery, does the love for each other blossom. I found that I couldn't put this one down, and before I knew it, the story was over and I was felt like "where did all the time go??" This has such a entrancing story line, one that will ensnare your attention from the first page and won't let you go until the very end....definitely a romance you don't want to miss out on. Teresa Medeiros does deliver.....and this one for me is a 5 rating!!! It compelely and deliciously won me over! The passion, the characters, the plot, the charming story, a magical read!!!
My Favorite Quote
"What are you doing?" she whispered, torn between hope and alarm.
"Making the biggest mistake of my life," he said grimly, before dragging her into his arms and claiming her lips in a wild and desperate kiss that stole both her breath and heart away.
