The Darkest Lie (Lords of the Underworld, #6) Reviews

  • Sophia Triad

    Gideon: Demon of Lies
    Butterfly: on his right thigh
His curse: Well, lying actually. He cannot say a single truth without suffering.

    Scarlet: Demon of Nightmares
Supernatural ability: Scarlet is half goddess as the daughter of goddess Rhea and a Myrmidon warrior. She is also the keeper of Nightmares and for that reason she has a butterfly tattoo on her upper thighs. Apparently the Lords are not the only keepers of the demons that escaped Pandora’s Box. Thus, she is using the nightmares to defeat her enemies, especially during the night time when she is extra strong.

I absolutely hated this book. I think it is the worst book from the Lords of the Underworld series and one of the worst ever written. Extremely badly written. Awful. I don’t know how I managed to finish it. I had to try really hard.

Hahaha I am sorry I could not resist talking like Gideon…

You see, whatever Gideon says he means exactly the opposite. This may drive you crazy when you read this absolutely brilliant book trying to understand what Gideon is talking about. But it will also cause a lot of laughing out loud moments.

The anger seemed to drain from him, something hotter, sultrier taking its place. Those rasping pants never slowed, and in between them, he said, "You're so unbelievably...ugly." The last was offered hesitantly, as if he feared she wouldn't understand what he was trying to tell her. "You don't make me ache. You don't make me hunger for so many things. Dirty things. Wicked things."

It seems that Gideon is an eye candy: He likes tattoos. Besides the butterfly that signifies his demon, he has several others like a pair of red lips on his neck, a pair of eyes above his heart and on his waist the words “To part is to die” above a bouquet of red flowers.
Oh and he has blue dyed hair. And several piercings.

Scarlet while she is the keeper of nightmares, she is extremely funny. Although she has no last name, she uses the last names of the actors she has a crush on:

"Well, I've been calling myself Scarlet Pattinson for several weeks. Have you seen Robert Pattinson? Hottest. Man. Ever. And no, I don't care if that makes me a cougar.”

"I was Pitt for a while," she said. "Then Gosling. Then Jackman. Then Reynolds. I always go back to Reynolds. He's my fave. That blond hair, those muscles..." She shivered. "Let's see, who else? Oh. I've been Bana, Pine, Efron and DiCaprio, as well. DiCaprio is another fave. And another blond, for that matter. Maybe I have a thing for blonds."

"Oh, and I'm not into girls," she continued, "but Jessica Biel could change my mind. Have you seen her lips? So yes, I've even been Scarlet Biel."

Scarlet and Gideon will be an awesome couple.
They will have many funny moments, but I have to admit that I cried a lot as well when I was reading this book. It seems that they both had to grow up and live with lies their entirely lives. Surprisingly Scarlet had to endure more lies than Gideon.

My favorite scene of the book is when they discover that their demons i.e. Lies and Nightmares are also in love.

"Cold metal and hot skin, a delicious combination."

The Darkest Lie is the sixth book of the Lords of the Underworld series, the story of Gideon, Keeper of Lies, and Scarlet, Keeper of Nightmares.

Scarlet had spent hundreds of years in Tartarus, waiting for her husband to come back for her. He never did. When she finally got free, she came to Budapest to get revenge on her faithless husband.

At the end of the previous book, The Darkest Passion, the Lords captured Scarlet, and placed her in the dungeon in their fortress in Budapest. She claims that she is the wife of Gideon, but Gideon doesn’t remember he had married her, nor that he had ever met her. Scarlet is furious.
Gideon popped his jaw, teeth bared for a second. "Are we not married?"
"Sure we are," she said. "But in my mind I'm cheating on you with Ryan."
Now the pink tip of his tongue peeked out from his lip, as if he meant to chew it off. "You're so freaking funny."
    "Who said I was joking?"

Though Gideon doesn’t remember, he saw a woman with black eyes, red lips, and a tattoo on her lower back in his dreams many times. He suspects that someone deleted his memories about Scarlet, but he can’t imagine any reason for that.

He decides to try to romance her, in order to get answers to the questions that Scarlet refused to answer.
"You sprang me for answers, so why are you trying so hard to soften me romantically? You'd have better luck working me over with your fists."
Good. She'd sounded angry rather than breathless.
    "Didn't think about that already."
He'd thought about hitting her? That--that--
"And I could absolutely bring myself to do it." Sweetheart.
Gods, she really was an idiot, melting like butter because he'd decided not to beat her up. Next she'd be hearing angels sing because he decided not to fork her jugular.

Finally, they decide to go and find answers together. They don’t know where the journey will end, even where it started.

What eventually turns out, OMG, is shocking. It is the most brilliant twist in the LOTU books so far. And the other one about their demons! Hilarious!

Gideon is absolutely perfect. He wants to have a woman who understands him. He is “wonderfully stubborn”, wild, funny, extravagant, both in his looks and his desires.

Wanted to do more. Do everything. Things he'd only ever dreamed of doing to others but hadn't been able to do because of his demon. Wicked things, things most women would probably shy away from. Hell, things most men would probably shy away from. But he was a warrior who had seen and done things most people couldn't comprehend. He'd lived for a long, long time and normal had grown yawn-inducing.

What really annoyed me after a couple of pages was the continuous and totally unnecessary translation of Gideon-speak by the author. In places even ‘yes’ and ‘no’ were interpreted.
Slowly he spun back around. "Yes," he said through clenched teeth, the word barely scraping its way free. Meaning no, he had none.

Scarlet is a very interesting character, her past is horrible. Her demon is very cool, able to invade dreams, and find out what frightens people the most. What it does to its victim in the dream, the same things happens to them in reality. Therefore Nightmares can even kill by dreams. But the demon can also show memories, and create beautiful, magical surroundings.

Scarlet easily accommodates to Gideon’s way of speaking, and smartly uses it sometimes to tease him, resulting in lots of funny moments.

I understand why it is so hard for Scarlet to trust in others, but the end of the story, especially at their wedding, I felt it exaggerated. She could have had a little more faith in their unity and love.

Gideon and Scarlet’s relationship is very special and intense. I enjoyed following the development in the change of their emotions, as they get to know each other slowly, and as the secrets around them are revealed. The timing of revealing these mysteries is flawless, and they nicely support the emotional side of their relationship.

The secondary storylines were thrilling, though Sienna disappeared halfway through the book, Strider was really annoying, and I died a little for Amun.

I loved Cronus. My favorite is his popcorn-episode.

The story is a masterfully complicated maze of lies, secret and mysteries. One of the best of the LOTU series.

    My favorite quotes.

    3.5 I liked Gideon stars

]I'm not going to write to a long review as I have been having migraines a lot lately and my meds have been working like shit. I will take a minute to say that I did like the book, but I didn't love it. Gideon was the best part of the book. I liked Scarlet at first but as the book went along she got whinny. I did like the plot of this book, but I didn't like all the jumping around from story plot to different story plot. I would have liked to focus more on the main couple. Overall still a pretty good read. I'm one to the next one.

    3 Very Confusing Stars!
This was the sixth book in the Lords of the Underworld series. Gideon and Scarlets story. It was my least favorite one and I had a hard time getting into it.

Gideon is keeper of the Lies demon. So that means he can't speak the truth without feeling pain that will eventually make him weak. Through out the whole book you can imagine what you had to read. Gideon saying the opposite of what he really means and the person he's talking to repeating it the correct way. It was very annoying and confusing and I didn't like it.

    Examples:

he said, “I have slept…with very few women.” Many. “All of them made me feel…utterly satisfied.” He’d been pleasured, yes, but always hollow and lonely. “But with you, it’s all physical.” It wasn’t. “I don’t admire your strength…and your courage and fuck, I don’t want…to see your smile.” He did. More than anything.

“Not glad, not glad.” He hugged her tight. “Gods, I hate you so much.” Finally, she kissed him back. “I love you, too.”

Scarlet keeper of nightmares is being held in the Lords dungeons. She is wicked. When you sleep her demon searches you out and gets into your dreams. Only they aren't dreams they are nightmares that are real and can kill you. She reminded me of Freddy Kruger in Nightmare on Elm Street except she was beautiful. One, Two, Scarlets coming for you! Haha!!
In the last book we are left with Scarlet telling Gideon that they were once married. Gideon has no memory of this and he wants to know more. He takes Scarlet away from the fortress so they can be alone and maybe he will get the truth out of her.
Things don't go as planned. Scarlet is very angry at Gideon for leaving her in the prison cell for centuries. She's even more pissed that he doesn't remember her and has been living his life like he's single and sleeping with other woman.
Scarlet and Gideon are trying to figure out who erased Gideon's memory OR is it somebody messed with Scarlets memories?? They will not stop until they get answers or revenge.
Once again we get more on the others in this book.
Aeron, William and Amun are on a mission to rescue Legion in Hell. I wanted to stay there with them. The action going on during these chapters were intense.
Strider has also kidnapped a hunter (Haidee) and she's someone from the Warriors past that they thought they killed.
Even though I didn't love this one as much as the others I can't stop reading this series. It's highly addictive and I need to know what's going to happen next. lol
I can't wait to start the next book.
Amun and Haidee's story! I'm thinking its going to be another 5 star:))

    "To Part is to Die"

    -Gideon & Scarlet
    ***
"The Darkest Lie" is the 6:th instalment in the "Lords of the Underworld" series that only gets better with each book.Gena Showalter`s vivid fantasy world are addictive,mind-fuzzing and overwhelming with its charismatic characters, action scenes, humor and sensual romance that leaves you wanting for more.In this book Gideon who is possessed by the demon of Lies wants to possess the beautiful woman who claims herself to be his long-lost wife.A wife he clearly doesn`t remember ever meeting and a wife who also clearly hates him.

Scarlet is the daughter of goddess Rhea who is possessed by the demon of Nightmares. For decades she has strived to go past the horrible tragedy of her past.I felt for her sorrow and my heart just broke for what she had to endure. She is very hot-tempered and has very powerful gift of using her Nightmares when she is strongest at her sleep. That was how Sabin captured her in the early book. But some part of me felt that she let herself be too easily captured and i understood too easily why when she told Gideon to come to her in his dreams.I thought her a very badass, strong and courageous heroine who loved Gideon with every breath she took. She handled his lies well and equaled him both in strength and passion.I am so happy for her finally finding Gideon and having her deserved happy ever after!

Gideon, a blue-haired warrior possessed by the demon of Lies can`t ever tell a single truth without suffering for it.He stole my attention already from the first book and i thought him so alluring, sexy and gorgeous by his ways of thinking, his sarcastic humor and his skills as a warrior and lover.Scarlet quickly overtakes his mind, heart and soul.It was beautiful watching him falling in love with her and romancing her.Damn he made my mouth water of his sexiness!!!I can`t imagine having to tell lies every single time.Every time he meant "i love you" he had to say "i hate you" or his meaning for darling or angel had to be "devil".But the moment he truthfully confessed to loving her and suffering painfully for it made me shed tears.God i love this man!!!!And i find Scarlet a wonderful heroine for him, these two together both in bed and out of it are perfection!!!

I am so getting myself ready for Amun`s book now cuz this man NEEDS a woman! He is in so much pain now that my heart is breaking for him!!!I am also excited that it will be Haidee who will be his heroine who seems to really hate these guys and even killed their friend Baden decades before. And Galen is getting crazier and i am the only one who knows its because of Legion, hihi.Torin is calling to my heart, damn he is one love-starved warrior and i can`t wait for his mate to appear.I wonder if Paris will find that his mate Sienna is alive anytime soon, damn i feel for his grief so badly.I actually found King Cronus a lot of fun in this book, despite him actually being a devious psycho villian.Oh wow i really am badly invested in these series! This book is defenitely another favourite of mine.

    ^^LIE TO ME BABY!^^

    4.5

Man how I enjoyed this book, it was action packed and down right awesome sauce. I am in love with that blue haired devil called Gideon. The Mr sexy, keeper of lies, which means he has to speak lies instead of truth. So everything he says means the complete opposite. He just met the keeper of nightmares and she is saying that they were married and shared a son, but Gideon can’t remember a thing but he knows this woman, he yearns for this woman.

So the lords are still fighting their human enemies who believe them evil, but it turns out they are the evil biatches, so it becomes a fight between the gods, and all that Gideon and Scarlet hold dear is put to the test. Scarlet is the daughter of Rhea, and hated by Cronus. So let’s say all the sexy powerful people want her dead, but the keeper of nightmares is no push over. She can kick ass and take names like any of the lords, and she wants Gideon something fierce. It seems though that someone has played some mind tricks on Scarlet and things aren’t what they seem. Will Scarlet lose it all? On the other hand, will she gain everything through their deception?

I am gonna tell you how I feel about everything in this book through Gideon speak.
‘I completely effing hated it. No, I don’t want to have sex with Gideon, I think he is the ugliest lord and the piercings do not make me lose my pants. I never once thought about an Amun/Aeron sandwich, just the thought of it disgusts me. I was in no way attracted to Scarlet; she was a complete bitch, and totally undeserving of Gideon. One of the books I hated the most in the series, not as action packed as the others.’
Take everything I just said and switch it around.

SIDE STORIES- Legion has people killing themselves off again. William has strong feelings for jailbait. Amun goes bat shit crazy, and man is the silence and brooding sexy on him. Paris’s hunter chick is back and bat shit crazy. All the shite is about to hit the fan.

I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait for Amun’s book, he’s so bat shit crazy right now.

One of my biggest complaints in a lot of books I've read lately is the 'fiesty heroine' who is really closer to 'insufferable bitch' heroine. Gena Showalter tends to veer in that direction in this book, and then jerks the rug out from under the reader with a truly shocking twist. Unfortunately, Scarlett continues to be an insufferable bitch and never recovers my sympathy.

Another complaint... in many PNR that I'm reading lately is the tendency to veer off into side stories. The latest Nalini Singh (Bonds of Justice) does this, completely muddying the water. Darkest Lie has side stories featuring Strider, Amun, Sienna, and so forth. While it does distract from the overall plot, those little windows are fascinating. There are just too many of them. It weakens the overall book. I finish a chapter or scene dedicated to Strider and have to remind myself what was going on with Gideon and Scarlett.

I've still got a ways to go, its been pretty good so far. I like Gideon an awful lot, and this has been a pretty good book for him.

OK, finished the book. What I wrote above still stands. My major beef is that I never warmed up to Scarlett. Granted, she had an awful background, but all that hatred, all that bull-headed behavior never really indicated to me that she was a woman of great potential, and certainly not someone the very Gods should be afraid of. She had a lot of potential, but then when she was progressing as a character, suddenly lapsed backward.

Poor Gideon takes blow after blow from her (unjustified, of course) and keeps coming back to slavishly take more. I wanted him to get mad and walk away! And given the hints about upcoming books, the next heroines are going to be just as insufferable, if not worse. Sienna, Ex, and Legion are just icky characters. Olivia and Anya were such refreshing changes of pace from the others.

The story is good, though the goals of the characters tend to leap around...going to kill Zeus...no, not Zeus, Rhea...no...Cronos...no... Some plot lines are half baked and never fully develop before they're closed. Very ambitious. Gideon...well, I kept thinking in "Gideon Speak" when I finished! LOL! He's a dear and a wonderful hero. He's one of the few heroes in the series who puts love before honor and brotherhood, which was a really appealing trait. I just wish Scarlett had been more up to his level.

For me, the most powerful element in the book was Amun's story. Though he didn't dominate the book in wordcount, his personality is so compelling it really snapped through the pages. I was stunned that Aeron put his friend on the line on behalf of Legion, who is quite honestly a really unappetizing character. This just seemed out of character for Aeron. Given Wrath's background (at the beginning of the series) I was really turned off that he'd make the demands on Amun that he did.

I started off this series calling it "BDB Lite." There are a lot of elements of JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood. In "Darkest Passion" I started calling it "Lite Done Right." That was such a strong book with a really original heroine. But this one, she's dipping into Ward's really bad points. The continual Deus ex Machina, the awful heroines, (though at least her heroines aren't simply non-dimensional sex dolls in need of rescue.) The veering away from the main romance.

I know I'm being pretty scathing for a series and author I really like, but come on! This was such a mosh of good and bad.

I'm eagerly awaiting Torin, Amun and Kane's stories, and I pray that Ms Showalter lays off the hateful heroines. I never want to see Legion again, and as far as Ex and Sienna? Their men are probably better off without them.

    * THIS REVIEW WILL BE DONE COMPLETELY IN GIDEON TOUNGE*

Im going to finish by saying that Gena Showalter did a terrible job not writing this book. I did think that I'd be able to understand Gideon tongue, but found after a couple of chapters that I couldn't understand Gideon at all. I became confused all the time and thought it was done poorly!

Gideon - He was awful. With his not blue hair and piercing, he was so mean to Scarlet and didn't treat her like the devil he was.

Scarlet was an absolute whore. Usually female leads are really nice and I dont become bored easily. I only would of hated it if Scarlet used her demon Nightmares a little bit less.

Amun and Strider didn't have story lines as well. Amun's gave us a not so interesting look into his easy going world. So not looking forward to his book.

Strider didnt feel like he was there for a page filler.

I hated this book, I did not read it constantly and found it very easy to put down. It was poorly written, had ugly characters a pathetic romance and little action.

    - Worst book ever.

    Kitap Yalan'ın İblisi Gideon'un değil.
Kesinlikle serinin en güzel kitabı da değil.
    Gideon'a bayılmadım üstelik..
Ağzından çıkan her doğru beni ona aşık etmiyor.
Kitaptaki diyaloglar kahrolası şekilde sinir olmama neden olmadı.
    Scarlet harika bir hatun değildi.
Steel'e hiç üzülmedim. Gerçek ortaya çıktığında kahrolmadım.
    Serinin devamını merak etmiyorum.
    HEM DE HİÇ MERAK ETMİYORUM!
Gideon Konuşması hiç zor değilmiş. Bu yüzden tatlı yazarı tebrik etmiyorum.
Devamındaki karakterler için hiç meraklı da değilim.
    Amun'u, Strider'ı, benim olmayan Paris'i, Torin'i, Baden'i merak falan etmiyorum.
    William'ın kitabı olmasa da olur.

Best book in the series so far funny, entertaining and engrossing 5 out of 5 stars

The Darkest Lie has to be one of my favourites of the Lords of the Underworld series! Both highly entertaining and heartbreaking, I loved every moment of it!

To be honest, I wasn’t particularly excited to read Gideon’s book. I loved the moment between him and Olivia in The Darkest Passion with the panties thing and all. However, I also found his demons, Lies to be annoying sometimes. Gideon has one of the worst demons of all. He can’t have a meaningful conversation without insulting someone. It’s so sad. Every word that comes out of his mouth is a lie. He has no absolutely no control over his demon, whereas the others have at least a little self control over Violence and the others. I found that as slow as I am, I had to think about what he truly meant when he speaks. Because of that, the pacing of the book slowed.

And imagine wanting to tell your lover that you think she’s beautiful, but end up saying she’s ugly? What a buzz kill!

I thought I loved Aeron and his tattoos, but Gideon...with his blue hair, tattoos and lip piercing? I love him all the more. So when he’s confronted with Scarlet and this claim that she’s his wife, Gideon is faced with a whole lot of WTF?! Showalter incorporates a lot of twists and secrets in this one that I never expected at all. I was completely shocked. Like jaw-dropping, smack-my-head and re-read to make sure I read it correctly the first time, kind of shocked. It’s soooo good!

I won’t say more about what happens between Gideon and Scarlet because it’s just too good to just spill here, but if you’re on the fence about reading this, JUMP! Because I promise you, you will not be disappointed!

Along with Gideon and Scarlet, you also see more of Amun and Strider. Amun suffers terribly in this one and I don’t want to say it but I can’t help but feel a little anger towards Aeron. But I don’t mind saying that LEGION IS A BRAT!

And Strider. *sigh* I can’t wait for his book! Strider is just so charming and charismatic. He’s one of my favourite Lords. So when he sets out and finds Haidee, things get a little ...umm, heated?

God, I cannot wait for the next book! Amun is up next, followed by Strider (YAY!), then I think Paris (Please let it be Gilly). Then I have no idea whose book is after that. Maybe Kane? I wish that Torin’s book would come sooner. It seems that all the women are smitten by him, including Olivia and Scarlet (and me). I am dying for this book!

  • Deborah Obida

I think Gideon and Scarlet are the most perfect couple, they are both Keepers. Gideon lies and Scarlet nightnares.

It was insta love but this one works both side, none of them was denying their attraction to eachother, they went through hell to finally be together. Scarlet is a Titan which equals badass, you don't spend centuries in Tatarus and not be. I love that Gideon didn't bother to deny his attraction to her, he wanted her and didn't hesitate to go after her.

William is in love I think, the girl is a spoiler but she is so young so he is afraid of giving in to his attraction for her even though she is madly in love with him.

I agree with Gideon, Strider is deranged, things that he does just to win, damn.

  • Catherine

I really liked the storyline and relationship with Scarlet and Gideon, but there was way too much going on in this book. I alternated between bored, irritated, and exasperated as I read the storyline Amun, Aeron, and William starred in. I'm interested in seeing more of Amun and William (especially him), but I felt that way too much time was spent on them when this was Gideon's book.

I also wasn't that thrilled with the whole purpose of that storyline either. Ugh! The fact that Aeron would put his friends at risk for that. Obviously he learned nothing valuable in the last book.

I was very intrigued by the possibility that Scarlet and Gideon had been married. I was bursting with questions by the time I finally got to read this book. When were they married? Why did they separate? Why doesn't Gideon remember? What does "To Part Is To Die" mean?

Luckily, I got answers to all of my questions. I did not expect the answer, though. I can't believe it! Kudos to the author for really throwing me a curve ball. I did not see that coming. I felt so bad for both of them. I loved how Gideon didn't care what the truth was. He just wanted to be with her no matter what. I think he's my favorite Lord so far. I also found the scene where we found out the meaning of "To Part Is To Die" utterly romantic.

I loved Scarlet's character. She's had her knocks, but she keeps picking herself up. Very sad things have happened in her past, but she doesn't constantly dwell. She does give into her moments of anguish, but the fact that they are few and far between made them that much more touching. I loved how she would deliberately take Gideon's statements at face value just to irritate him. He would get so frustrated!

I really loved the big reveal about the relationship between Scarlet and Gideon's demons. I cracked up! I also saw more hints that Galen and she-who-irritates-me will have a future when Scarlet was in his dreams.

I'm kind of nervous about the future of this series. I keep giving high grades, but it's almost despite the events in the book. I don't like how more and more of the story seems to be slotted for storylines and events revolving around other characters. I want more focus on the romance that the book is purported to be about. I really thought this one would be focused exclusively on Gideon and Scarlet when he took her away, but no such luck.

This author has an extremely engaging style, but I'm afraid I'll have to give her up if she continues this trend. I don't want to feel like I'm reading two books anymore.

  • Alex is The Romance Fox

This is the 6th book in Gena Showalter’s Lords of the Underworld and tells the story of Gideon, the Keeper of Lies – he cannot tell a lie and if he does…ooh nothing can describe the terrible pain he’s attacked with - and Scarlett, Keeper of Nightmares – she’s the one with a demon who invades your dreams and gives you deadly nightmares about what you fear most!!!

After being captured in the last book by the other Lords, she’s now their prisoner. She claims to be the wife of Gideon but he can’t remember her at all!!!

What follows is a story filled with twists, cliffhangers, secrets, lies (and I don’t just mean Gideon’s lies!!!) more information on the Lords and their world…….and much much more.

I thought Gideon to be quite a sweet and cute and hot and sexy guy. But Scarlett did it for me in this book. I adored her. She’s gorgeous, sexy, funny and sassy…. I mean….she loves Robert Pattinson – JUST LIKE ME………….

“Well, I’ve been calling myself Scarlett Pattinson for several weeks. Have you seen Robert Pattinson. Hottest. Man. Ever. And no, I don’t care if that makes me a cougar.”

Great dialogue, especially between Gideon and Scarlett…and their chemistry…hot!

Enjoyed following the lives of the Lords and their women…Maddox worrying about his pregnant wife…totally sweet.

I enjoy this series – the author has created a fascinating world and great characters.

This summer, I did two full gloms, the Lords of the Underworld series and the Elder Races series. It was worth it!

Honestly, I wasn't looking that forward to Gideon's book. The having to lie all the time thing didn't really appeal to me. Having said that, I think it was handled very well. I liked that those around him know how to read him, and it turned out kind of endearing. Sometimes, it's sort of dumb and hackneyed, but also amusing at the same time.

Gideon and Scarlett had a really rocky relationship--they're like some of those folks you might know who are together but fight all the time and you feel so awkward because they have no problem dragging each other in front of you, and you just want to slink away so they can finish bickering in private. But sometimes, those couples also have this violent love for each other. It's a dynamic that has you scratching your head. I have to say that Scarlett is probably the only person on earth that could put up with Gideon 24/7.

Anyway, I got so sucked into this story. It has some good depths and unexpected aspects that made it a very entertaining read. It's not my favorite, but I ended up loving it despite my misgivings. One of the things I really like about this series, is that even if the couple isn't your favorite, you still enjoy it because of the ongoing story.

"How can they stand you?" Cronos asked. Lol I laughed a lot seeing the demon of Lies in action. Sooo annoying yet hilarious. That's the only nice part for me in this book. I am sorry but I was bored out of my mind for the first 60% but that's totally on me because I hate second chance romance.

Anyway, at that point things start to get interesting but nothing that makes me love this book. There's not a lot that happens here, nothing at all as a group or even half together. Some of them are not even mentioned and it sucked.

And man, I hated Aeron in this book for what he asked of Amun. And I even hated Legion all over again, poor thing.

So, some things happened if you like following a second chance romance. I basically only felt sorry for the hero and by the end for the heroine as well. But that's it.

    2.5 stars.

Well, I think this is the last of the Lords of the Underworld for me for a while. This book just did not do it for me. At all.

In this installment, the main story (if you can call it that) is about Gideon, Keeper of Lies. Gideon's character is actually pretty funny because he is unable to speak the truth. If he DOES speak the truth, it causes him horrible pain and weakens him for days. So a simple conversation takes quite a bit of translating. When he wants to say, "Don't leave. If you stay, we can kill them together.", he has to say, "Don't stay. If you go, we can kiss them together." or something like that. Its pretty funny but it can be really confusing sometimes. Anyways, someone named Scarlet comes to the compound (well, actually she's kidnapped by one of the Lords and brought to the compound and put in one of the cells in the dungeon). She says that she and Gideon were married. But Gideon has no memory of it. And on top of that, Scarlet is the Keeper of Nightmares, which is really cool. And she's a total badass.

But all of this great stuff wasn't enough to save this book for me. I ended up skimming through most of it, just to get through it. The author has probably 5 or 6 different stories going on at this point. I can't keep up and to be honest, I don't want to keep up anymore. Lords are all over the globe looking for the artifacts, Cronus is up in everybody's business, Lords are going to hell to rescue a friend of one of the Lords, another one of the Lords is off capturing some other chick who I'm SURE is going to be in one of the next books, Amun - Keeper of Secrets - is in the next book so we see more of him at random places. I mean, its just too much. The sexy time is at a minimum. And the "main" couple has less and less page-time as these novels go on. It all makes me disgruntled. So I'm going to take a break from these books indefinitely.

Overall, this wasn't a bad book. But don't even try to read it if you haven't read the previous ones first. I've read them all up to this point and I was still lost. I gave it 2 stars because it was ok. I sort of liked it but then again, not really. If you've read the series up to this point and have liked them, you'll like this one. Other than that, you may want to skip this one.

I loved this book. As usual with this series, the plot was fast paced and flowed really well. I enjoyed seeing the old characters and the new. I got to be in Amun and Strider's heads which was new but I really liked it. I love any glimpse of the Lords of the Underworld whose stories have not been told yet. I am very interested to see where their stories are going.
I liked Scarlet. I thought she was a little stubborn considering, in her mind, her and Gideon had already had a relationship. Why she was stubborn was understandable though so I didn't let that affect my enjoyment of the story too much. Besides that, I thought she was extremely strong and brave. She never backed down from a fight even when the odds were against her. I enjoyed having a main character that was possessed by a demon but wasn't one of the Lords. I found it really interesting and hope more main characters are like that in the future.
I liked Gideon. I thought that he was really honorable and loyal considering he was possessed by the demon of Lies. He was strong willed and I liked how he didn't take no for an answer when it came to Scarlet. I will admit that one thing I didn't like about Gideon was constantly trying to figure out what he meant. He can only speak in lies so I would have to decipher what he was trying to say every other sentence which got a little annoying.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I love this series and every time there is new character development. Whether that is with new characters or old ones. I will definitely be continuing the series. I am pretty sure Amun is next and I am excited to read his story after seeing what happened to him in this book.

~ TO PART IS TO DIE ~

Scarlet. She's the Keeper of Nightmares and my absolute favorite heroine of the series. She's feisty, smart, loyal, bloodthirsty, vicious, and highly sarcastic. Her memories of Steel broke my heart, and it broke my heart even further when it was revealed that the memories were not real. I loved the wedding memory; that was absolutely heartwarming. I hated how easily her aunt could manipulate her memories, particularly when she made Scar think that Gideon had slept with her aunt, making Scarlet beat Gid up. Her bitch aunt tried to kill her and that made me all teary-eyed, but Scarlet ends up killing her aunt in the end, so it's all good. I love that she was "addicted" to Gideon (I mean, who the hell isn't?).

Gideon...ohhhh, Gideon. My love. My favorite Lord. What would I do without you? I would cease to exist, that's what. He's so loyal, smart, sexy, aggressive, determined, and utterly beautiful. It's both fun and frustrating to try and decipher Gideon Speak; sometimes it's easy to figure out, sometimes it's hard. And poor Gid and all the sucky situations he was put in; man, was he tortured. He definitely earned his female. I love that Lies couldn't tell if Scarlet was lying or not because she believed what she said was true but they were fake memories (I love the confusion, not the fake memories part). It was weird, but cool, that his demon could leave him, and I love how shocked he was to find that his demon was a girl. I have to say that, as much as it was cool that his demon could leave him for a little bit, it was weird for me to see him saying the truth and not feeling any pain; and I loved when he told Scar that he loved her and she said she never wanted to hear him say that again because it means "I hate you" in Gideon Speak.

Amun, that poor guy. He's infected by demons! It broke my heart to see him so messed up. On a lighter note, he mentions having feelings for Kaia...this supports my hope of the two of them being HEAs for each other!

    Ugh, Legion is back. Damn.

Galen is a psycho but I love that Scarlet was able to get to him.

I love that Lies and Nightmares were lovers. One of the funniest parts was when they came out of Gid and Scar and just started having sex on the floor.

I still don't like Sienna but I'm definitely interested to see how she is going to play into the next couple books, and how her relationship with Paris is going to progress. And I love that Wrath was trying to direct her to Paris.

I love me some Strider. He's so adorable. And, I may be wrong, but my gut is telling me that he's going to end up with Hadiee/Haidee. Now, some of you are probably saying, "Oh, no! He would never do that! She's the one who killed Baden!" and yes, I remember that, but the two of them are already attracted to each other. Plus, she challenges him in a way no other female has before and I think he likes that.

I knew the chickie Hunter was Hadiee/Haidee from the moment Strider described her, particularly when he said there was something familiar about her. So, I'm definitely interested to see how she is going to play into the rest of the series, also.

I love William and Gilly together; I think they're so cute together. And I love that she threw a temper tantrum because he didn't tell her that he was going on a trip and he wouldn't take her with. Little did she know, he was going to kill her mother and stepfather for the way they treated her before she ran away. That makes me love Willie all the more. I wonder, also, exactly why Lucifer is afraid of William. Also, it was so adorable that Willie was calling for Gilly when Lysander brought him back from hell.

There were a lot of the gods and goddesses in this one, particularly Cronus and Rhea, and I think I liked that. My favorite part, though, was when Scarlet and her aunt were fighting, and Cronus and Gideon watch the fight from the sidelines. They're just chilling, eating popcorn; then Gid starts cheering for his girl and Cronus starts getting irritated. Awesome stuff.

I loved the Immortals After Dark cameo in this one, too: Carrow. (And I can't wait for Carrow's book, which comes out soon!)

The Darkest Lie is absolutely my favorite Lords of the Underworld book, and it's even my favorite Gena Showalter book thus far.

Before I get started on discussing anything about this book I just wanna make it known that our "heroine" Scarlet was a great big slice of fat from the annoyance meat. I typically don't really go all "oh, boy! She's the bomb" with Gena's leading ladies, I'm really interested in learning more about the pretty mens but Scarlet was just too much for me and the number one reason why I knocked a star off this book.

Another reason is because while I do not pay much attention to how a book is written, I did this time. I would've noticed this before but it seems that Gena's writing has gotten to be TOO over the top. Meaning some things were just too over descriptive. That also made me want to chuck the book at the wall. Its kind of hard to NOT notice. That, along with the cringe inducing cheesy moments provided by "the" Scarlet, is another reason why I knocked a star off.

Other parts in the book, mostly concerning the planned rescue of Legion is what saved this book for me. Very interesting, but I MUST warn you, it gets very intense. If you're faint hearted, don't go for it; there were definitely parts of the book that haunted me for a few hours after I read it.

I did not care for the romance. I won't lie, some parts I skipped over. I find it hard to root for a romance when I cant stand the female. Gideon's lying didn't really bother me as much but I really can understand how some of the reviewers couldn't put up with the lie deciphering. I just saw that as a way to put you into the other character's, who deal with Gideon, shoes. So, in my opinion, it was clever.

I cut Mrs. Showalter some serious slack because this IS the sixth book in the series and seriously, how many books can you write in a series about a tortured hero and still keep in interesting and fresh after four books? Hence, why I gave it four stars.

  • Mistress SuckMyBlackDagger

Gideon oh you sexy beast. He is all sorts of tie me down and spank me hot! I really enjoyed this installment of LOTU. It was full of humor yet also stayed true to the sexy demon lord romance. Scarlet was a bit annoying at times. I just hate when they keep going back and forth mentally about to stay or not to stay. Just shut it! He is effing hot, you want him and honey you know you ain't going any where so deal with it already. I had moments of "damn" and I like that. I like twist an unexpected events to happen in these novels. To many times do I feel like I'm rereading the same book with different names but Showalter has imho done a great job of keeping me enthralled by the sexy lords with there individuality and also with the storyline as a whole. I really enjoyed each of her LOTU books so far and can't wait for more.

We learn more details about the characters who are in the upcoming books and it sets the scene for Amun's book, which is next, for sure. There are so many side stories brewing it leaves you withering for more. I know that Galen is hot for Legend but haven't heard if there is a book for them so I suspecting it will play out as a side story through several more of the following books. I am dieing to know how this will all play out and hate I have to wait a whole year. *sigh*

    ****Spoiler Below****

The most intriguing and surprising part of this one is when the demons pull free from Gideon and Scarlet and go at it like porn stars. That was a new for the series and I actually found it nice. I mean It is neat that the demons were in love with each other regardless of the hosts. I also like that it is setting the scene for more glimpse of the demons and their psychology.

Koca kitap boyunca Paris’i gözüm hiç mi hiç aramadı.

OK..... I was dreading this version as whenever Gideon in the past babbles on in his gobbledy gook, i usually skip it..... Now its a whole book of it.

The couple itself Scarlett and Gideon were cute together... but with the whole amnesia back and story with Gideon constantly lying felt like i was trying to solve a hard sudoku puzzle... it was all a bit too much for one book, also with Gideon's declarations of hate and Abuse it was kind of hard to take them seriously... how Scarlet will put up with that for an eternity.... Beats me....
    Im 2.5 starring this one

I just did not enjoy it like the others......
