This is not just a true story but our story. After many attempts at writing a novel I felt God leading me to write about what I knew and what meant the most to me. Over the years of trying to explain our unique situation I decided to write about our experiences as a special needs family in hopes of opening minds and conversations about what it is really like to have a child with profound disabilities and still after 15 years, no name to his condition.
Our situation is not that uncommon but is not often openly discussed. We, like many other families, face challenges and difficulties some may not understand, and most are not willing to accept.
The goal of this book is to share our experiences, good and bad, to open doors to some hard conversations.
By sharing our story, we hope to bring laughter and heart to a story that is honestly difficult to share sometimes.
Our son and his two siblings are the greatest treasures in our unique little world. And just like all the amazing parents out there, we want the best for our kids. We want them to feel loved, included, and seen for the amazing individuals they are.
Our story shares what it’s like for our special little family and how the recognition from communities, schools, churches, and destinations, can make all the difference in small worlds like ours.
We hope that by sharing our stories and adventures we can engage people in conversations about how far we have come in accommodating the special needs community and how far we have yet to go in the understanding and inclusion of our special needs community.
We love you all and appreciate you joining us for a brief montage into our crazy little life and welcome you to get to know our son as the remarkable person he is.
