Karl Rahner: Spiritual Writings Reviews

  • Emily

"Spiritual Writings" contains excerpts from many of his great teachings on spirituality as well as other subjects. Each topic/excerpt is then broken down by an editor's note as a guide and explanation. I found it to be a great summary and gathering of some of his important contributions, although it leaves you with an incomplete and generalized view. Be sure to read his original teachings first in order to obtain the complete message that Rahner wishes to convey to his readers. However, for those who are familiar with his works, this is a nice follow-up and quick reference to the key themes and messages. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this, particularly his responses to certain letters! Rahner is an amazing Theologian.

The book is edited by Philip Endean SJ and contains essays, lectures, and some letters too. I found the letters really interesting - they were actually answers to letters Rahner had received from people asking him religious questions.
