The Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Kensington palace, the Banqueting House, Kew Palace. Five of the greatest palaces ever built. Homes, power bases and centres of intrigue, their story is the nation's story. But behind the scenes are all sorts of less familiar tales - intimate, unexpected and poignant - featuring an extraordinary cast of characters who each played their part. This book presents fifteen of those stories, excitingly told and beautifully illustrated. For anyone fascinated by history - of both kings and ordinary people - this is an engrossing read.
The Private Life Of Palaces: Fifteen Stories From Five Amazing Palaces Reviews
-
A 3.5 star book. More of a primer for the palaces and characters covered than anything else, this is a quick but informative read. You get 15 quick snapshot history lessons across the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace, Kew Palace and Banqueting House over several hundred years of history.
The articles are well written, though quite brief, and designed to spark interest rather than be definitive statements of any kind.
Well worth a read. -
