Calvin Lassiter is an emergency room doctor who buries himself in his high-stress job. He has no time for a relationship and most definitely is not interested in the new emergency room nurse, Matt Walton. Matt is exactly what Calvin doesn't want—an eyeliner-wearing bad boy who rides a motorcycle.

Matt, however, is intrigued by the stuffy, too-beautiful-for-words doctor, but the man is as cold as ice. Yet Matt's fellow nurses bet him he can't melt Dr. Lassiter and get him into bed.

Too fascinated by Calvin not to try, Matt succeeds in breaking the doctor's hard exterior. But as their relationship turns serious, the possibility hangs over Matt's head that his co-workers will tell his sexy lover the truth and end his dreams of winning Calvin's heart forever.

There is no way I can possibly top what both Ivan and Eyre have said about this book. I will say that the "Only" series is one of the best homoerotic romance series I've read in a long time.

When I met Calvin in Barnaby's story, I honestly didn't know if I would like him or not. At face value, he comes off kind of cold and uncaring so I was a little bit doubtful that I would warm up to him.

    How wrong could I be?

As usual, Shawn's characterization is amazing. She somehow took a character that most people would find gorgeous, but unlikable, and turned him into a man who is warm, intelligent, vulnerable and loveable. I'm shocked that Calvin has ended up being one of my favorite characters that she has written.

Of course, who could resist the sexy and alluring Matt? I loved his determination to plant himself firmly into Calvin's heart.
If you haven't read this series and you're a fan of M/M romance, you should treat yourself with this amazing series.
    I really can't wait until Drew's book:)

OMG! I loved this book! I thought the relationship between Calvin and Matt was very cool to read about. Watching Matt melt the wall of ice around Calvin's heart and firmly place himself into his life was so awesome! Both of these characters were so much fun to read and I loved them both!

I really liked this third volume where Matt, the bad boy nurse, goes after Calvin, the icy doctor.

Matt is so determined that Calvin finally gives in. At the first sign of trouble he withdraws - and it really looks bad for a while. Both men need to deal with their pasts, but I think Calvin has the harder job in many ways. I liked that he lets his brother Barnaby (from the second book) help him - he really does need more support in his life.

Another sweet little story, but for me the totally predictable and unecessary "bet" story line could of been dropped completely. It added nothing to the real story except as an excuse for the author to get in one last make-up sex session.

I’m starting to like a lot this series of short novellas centering around a lawyer firm whose three partners are all gays. Only His Heart is almost a spin off, since it’s the story of Matt, Nathan’s stepbrother, and Calvin, Barnaby’s brother. Nathan and Barnaby, a couple from the previous novellas, did nothing to let Matt and Calvin meet, but they are working on the same hospital, as nurse and doctor, and so it happens.

Here is probably the first nice surprise, it’s an out-track from the usual Nurse/Doctor romance, since it’s not the Doctor who is pursuing the Nurse but viceversa. Even if with a less high professional career, Matt, the nurse, has a more domineering character than Calvin, and so it’s him that almost force Calvin in a relationship. Calvin is cautious, but interested, and so it’s easy to convince him. Calvin’s perplexity is not much due to the difference in career level or since they work in the same place, even if he tries to use them, I think it’s more a fear to commit with the wrong person; Calvin has never had a real long lasting relationship in his life, and he is always ready to find a reason to avoid it. But with Matt the fight will be uneventful.

I really like how the author managed to give power to Matt’s character without actually giving it with the usual ways: he is not rich, not successful, average handsomely, while Calvin is striking… Matt is strong since he is at ease with himself, he is convinced of his reason and of what he wants, something that Calvin, despite career and success, has still yet to learn.

    Another 3.5

This is book 3 in the series which brings us to Barnaby's older doctor brother Calvin and Nathan's step-brother Matt a nurse. Matt is pretty new to the city and sees a hot guy in the cafeteria but gets the cold shoulder. Seems Calvin has a reputation of being an ice-princess. When Matt expresses interest in Calvin, his colleagues bet him $400 he can't get him into bed. Despite Matt being everything Calvin finds repugnant (earrings, rides a motorcycle) he is strangely attracted and gives into Matt's pressure without much fight. Then of course the bet comes back to bite Matt in the ass. I could see the bet problem coming a mile away and they move REALLY fast with Matt becoming totally enamoured almost immediately, however he admits it's fast and I can deal with that kind of thing when one or both of the characters are a bit baffled by their speed instead of just thinking it's normal. It was a hot sexy read and I liked Calvin much better in this one, I guess because you get to see behind his facade which came off as total asshole in Barnaby's book. I'm looking forward to the next one.

This third book in the Only Forever series is not taking place at the law firm, like the first two books. Matt and Calvin are working at a hospital, but there’s a connection to the other books, as Calvin is the older brother of Barnaby from book #2. Both brothers stole my heart, with their difficult past and resulting different personalities. This third book is my favorite of the series because of the emotional depth of this story. Here the heartache is caused by a misunderstanding (no smacking urges here, like in book #2). Both Matt and Calvin are loveable protags.

If the story is longer, I probably wouldn't mind reading how quickly the two jump to bed, have pretty much only sex scenes, and fast resolve in the end. But this is a novella, less than 100 pages ... and when all I can remember from a story is the sex, it's very, VERY unsatisfying. I would like to know more about Calvin (he's intriguing, especially with the scars he carried). It's too bad that his character doesn't fully developed. Yep, this one goes there, to the "not my cup of tea" list.

Another good book from the series!
The dynamic between seemingly cold and stand-offish Calvin and assertive self-assured Matt is fascinating to watch. The future potential crisis was kinda hinted on in the beginning and I was glad things were resolved rather swiftly and sweetly :) Even the assholes nurses managed to redeem themselves, at least partially.
Looking forward for the next story!

A little too one-sided for me, and I wasn't really sure I liked the characters.

  • Erotic Horizon

This is the third book in the series and Calvin Lassiter gets his shot at love in this one. Calvin is Barnaby’s brother and just for the fact that he was there for his brother when he needed him – he is automatically a good guy in my book. I love sibling relationships that seems one thing on the outside but deep down each sibling would do anything and everything in their power to make the other happy.

Calvin being a doctor, his days more are less revolves around his job, where he is not liked very much – if at all to be honest. When new male nurse Matt takes an interest in him and is persistent with his interest, things heats up and a whole lot happens really fast after that.

There was a bit of predictable event in this one where I practically saw the bells tolling before it happened and that did take away some of the glow of this book for me.

What I liked however was Matt and his consistency in his interest in Calvin. Despite Calvin less than welcoming attitude I thought Matt was a great protag, not over the top and had a pretty decent work ethic. I also loved the fact that he was not opposed to opening up himself and bearing it all for Calvin to see that he was serious about him – he didn’t try to play any games, sweet guy.

I think they more than the other have some work to do on themselves and their relationship in order to make it work, but I am rooting for them.

In this third book in the Only Forever series, we meet Calvin and Matt. Matt, a nurse at the hospital Calvin works at becomes infatuated at first sight with the beautiful doctor. However, Calvin doesn't make things easy for him and Matt learns he will have to fight for him if he really wants him.

The bet seemed a little far-fetched, but I guess it served its purpose of adding a bit of angst and an obstacle to their story. I liked Calvin's relationship with Barnaby and how even though he is definitely the older brother, he had no problem seeking comfort from Barnaby when he needed him.

I especially liked Calvin because not everybody has an open, bubbly personality. He was standoffish and serious at times and it was fun to see Matt pursue him. As for Matt, though his appearence was that of a bad boy, his personality was the complete opposite. He was the mushy romantic and his and Calvin's relationship wouldn't have stood a chance if he hadn't persisted.

  • ElaineY

This one was just so-so compared to the other two. While Travis & Darrel's story had a sparkle to it and Nathan & Barnaby's was made a winner by Barnaby's appealing personality, Calvin and Matt's story felt slow and plodding even when it, in reality, moving quite fast.

Calvin, despite his reluctance to get involved with Matt, nevertheless, lets Matt lead him wherever Matt wants them to go without much argument. While I was fine with this, relieved even, Only His Heart felt like there was something big missing...that X factor that brings a smile to my face no matter how short and simple a story or long and angsty.

    3.5 stars

Book three in the Only Forever series is another office romance although this one takes place in a hospital. In this story the brother and stepbrother of the protags from book two get their chance at happiness. Calvin is a reserved man known as the Ice Queen behind his back and Matt is a nurse new to the hospital. I liked them both and found their relationship interesting although I thought the conflict in the story a bit too obvious and predictable. Overall a nicely written, sweet and sexy story.

I won this one of Shawn Lane's on a comp on her blog, and its a good, warm read, which I enjoyed over my coffee and lunch breaks.
It is a fun doctor/nurse tale, with nurse Matt chasing Doc 'ice queen' Calvin. Matt was quite forward, which may have got him a fist from others, but there is a nice unravelling of stressed Calvin.

23.12.20 reread : perhaps now a bit too simplistic for me, easy reading shag fest, no underlying story so OK but no more than that

  • Shelby P

This is my least favorite book in the series thus far. The story was very predictable. I knew right away that that bet would come back to bite Matt in the ass and it did. I did not feel any chemistry between Matt and Calvin. I really liked Calvin and wished he'd gotten a better story.

The guys had sex way too quickly and it seems each book has progressively more sex than the previous book. I'm not liking this trend at all.

  • Pati

This was just totally unrealistic to me. First and foremost we're told that Matt is new to the hospital yet the way he is with the other nurses makes that seem untrue. Secondly, his mom and stepdad have been married for "several years" yet his younger half siblings are over 21? That's more than several years. SMH. Those are just two examples. Then there are the few times that the grammar slips into non-American grammar. *sigh* It's a real shame that this didn't have a decent editor.

The third novel of Only Forever series is like the two books before it - a very enjoyable and quick, light read with captivating characters mixed in with just the right amount of angst and smut. 3.5 stars

Very good m/m romance about a nurse, new to the hospital, who can't resist the handsome doctor that the rest of the staff calls the Ice Queen.

I would've rated it a three, but the ending sort of ruined the book for me. The author rushed the ending.

  • Milyd

I didn't really like Calvin in the previous book but this story was nice. The ending was a little bit rushed though.

  • Ro

Way too much sex way too quickly for who Calvin was supposed to be
