Dreading the one night per tide he’s forced to travel between the realms, Draigen Eric Locke has only one desire on Samhain – to retrieve the fae transporting daemon relics through the realms and escort her to the Dark Court to face the sidhe king. When he mistakenly recovers the wrong fae, the dragon under his skin responds in a way he never could have predicted, and he discovers he’s found the woman destined to him by the Fates – his Chosen.

Runa Charon is an anomaly among her kind, the mortal offspring of a human and a fae. Unlike other sidhe, she longs to experience pleasure instead of pain, love instead of lust. Immortally strong but mortally fragile, she’s been sheltered all of her life. When the opportunity to meet a Draigen from the Otherworld arises, she can’t resist the temptation and travels to meet the man who will change her destiny.

Unlike other netherworld creatures, Draigen mate for life, choosing to follow the path of their beloved mate in this reality or the next. Knowing a future can only span one lifetime, will they settle for less than an eternity? Or will they be grateful for the gift of each day?

Eternity and a Day (Desires of the Otherworld, #1) Reviews

When I read this book, I was not in the mood for an erotica (I had a headache- just kidding). In spite of my moodiness, I loved this book. Aline Hunter (aka J.A. Saare) has an incredible (or weird not sure which one) ability to make me believe her characters. Hunter’s writing style is so unique that I truly think I’d like anything she wrote (so far, that belief has been correct).

In this story, you have Draigen (think “Dragon”) Eric Locke and half-fae Runa Charon as the two main characters. I am not going to repeat the story as the book description does a fantastic job of that. What I will say is those two characters were very likeable. I have read so many paranormal romances where the Alpha male was excessively aggressive or the damsel in distress was either very weak or pitiful or way too nasty (aka “the bitch). Here, Eric, while he was definitely all male, he was also tender and loving when necessary. Hunter never portrayed him as an extreme. The same can be said about Runa. While she was definitely a fighter, she also was very vulnerable.

The story was fun and I liked all the twists. The sex scenes were hot and the villains were oh so bad. You cannot ask for much more out of an erotica!

Aline Hunter’s alter ego wrote one of my current favorite books, so of course I jumped at the chance to read Eternity and a Day.

Now, I have to say that I don’t typically read books about fae and dragons. Most of them are entirely too formal and out there for me (why vamps and weres aren’t included in the “too out there for me” pile, I’ll never know), but Eternity and a Day wasn’t anything like that. There were a few formal parts, but it’s not entirely steeped in the fantasy realm. They wear jeans, have stainless steel fridges, and watch DVDs of A Christmas Story (Best. Christmas. Movie. Ever.)

Eric Locke is growly and possessive, which is just how I like my men. He also happens to be a Draigen (aka dragon), so if he gets too pissed off, you’d better watch out cause he will EAT YOU. This is not actually a bad thing, believe it or not. He’s a protective and cuddly dragon if he loves you. And he loves the hell out of Runa Charon, a half human/half fae/all mortal knockout.

I’ve said it before: I usually hate the whole “Love at first sight” scenario, but with non-humans, I’m ok with it. Eric recognized his Fated in Runa, and he fights it. After all, who wants their fate decided for them? Especially if you’re fated to be with a sidhe, which is by all intents and purposes a disgusting and somewhat evil creature? Ugh. Not me, that’s for sure!

If there’s one thing I hate more than any other, it’s weak heroines in a book. And while Runa is mortal, she isn’t some pathetic little weakling, and I love that about her. She doesn’t take any bullshit, and she stands up for herself when someone talks down to her or tries to attack her. Ok, so she still needs the knight in shining Draigen armor, but still.

There were a few things that I didn’t like, but it didn’t take away from the story overall… I didn’t like the slave band thing. I get why he felt the need to use it initially, but I hate the fact that he did use it. I think that Raudan (Runa’s protector since birth) should have told her what was going on, but that’s because I didn’t like seeing her scared or confused. Again, I see why it was done the way it was done, but my heart went out to Runa so much that I got downright angry at what was happening.

There was one scene in particular that was hard for me to read. I literally had to get up and walk away for a few minutes because I was crying so hard. I can’t say anything about it without giving it away, but I will say that you have to keep reading. This particular scene was beautifully, if heartbreakingly, written and the aftermath will likely break your heart and mend it at the same time.

The secondary characters are funny and add a lovely mix to the story. Byron, Runa’s brother, is my new book boyfriend, and I’m eagerly anticipating his story. Yuvi, Runa’s best friend, made me laugh out loud so many times that I lost count. I wanted to save some of her quotes to Tweet, but honestly there were too many and I would’ve been giving the whole book away for free. I especially loved Yuvi with her sisters. They’re so much like me and my siblings that I found myself reaching for the phone a few times.

I hope to know more about Eric’s brothers and their mates (especially Nox, who started out as a total asshole but ended up redeeming himself… sort of…) and I can’t wait for the next installment of the Desires of the Underworld series.

I don't know what I was expecting in this one, but I was really surprised at how much i enjoyed it. The world was very different, it had all kinds of creatures in the realm, fae, dragons, brownie, selkies, demons, witches/sorcerers, vampires, negromancers--which I don't know what the heck that is, but they were there.

So Runa Charon is the 5th child to a Sidhe but unlike her siblings, she was born to a mortal woman. So she is the family black sheep. When her sister Octavia tricks her into paying for a crime committed by Octavia, Runa finds herself bound to a draigen named Eric Locke. But from the moment Eric saw Runa, he knew she was his chosen, so now he just has to convince the mortal fae girl to have him as a life partner.

This story was well written, and very entertaining. Runa was really likable and wasn't a weakling. Yes, she was a tad gullible on the Octavia front, but Runa learned quick and didn't make the same mistake twice. Eric was also a likeable character. He worked to gain her trust and he was very sweet. I don't know if the author needed every creature in the Lore, but I guess like IAD, the more creatures, the more the author has to weave love stories.

A little hard to follow with choppy writing. Not too bad a plot but the first chapter with the ridiculous and shallow scene colored the experience for me. The romance and danger were solved by the end of the book but too much loose ends remained. Small loose ends perhaps but I believe vital to the story all the same. Runa's origin was explained and I don't really grasp the importance as it's all very vague. Yes, one aspect of her true nature and ability to help another race was told but beyond that it's unbelievable to expect the reverence of others. And Eric, I've read all kinds of heroes. There are some really bad ones almost evil-like. If I can admire Simon of
Crimson Kiss I thought I can't reject any other not-boring, strong willed, bad-assed hero but Eric proved me wrong. He's not boring, not mawkish, he's even had all the possibilities for a dream worthy hero yet I did not relate to him in any way. I learned from him though that it's not the treatment the heroine receives from their heroes that matter but how they atone for it. And Eric, did not only not atone but there's a feeling of insincerity with his regret if he did.

I only read this book because the second looked promising and I didn't mind the writing of this author in her other series and even loved her J.A. Saare's novels so I'm giving the second one another try. One of the negative in this one is the crowded races with different cultures and rules with neglected elaboration. Can't get worse so on to book 2....

I have to say I was a bit disappointed in this book. Having read 'Omega Mine' by Aline Hunter, which I really enjoyed, I was expecting to like this one too - and maybe my expectations were a tad too high - but this particular story just didn't click with me.

It actually started off pretty good and there were some high notes in the story as a whole - the initial chemistry between Runa and Eric was really great and they definitely enjoyed some hot moments - but the story really fizzled about halfway through and I began to lose interest. I had a hard time connecting with the "world" Hunter created - while it was filled with lots of paranormal creatures it wasn't really all that well presented or thought out IMO. Also the 'supporting cast' didn't really hold my attention either, and I confess to skimming through much of their appearances when it didn't directly pertain to the main characters.

All in all, this is essentially a simple fated-to-be-mated paranormal story that totally relies on its explicitly naughty scenes to keep it afloat, but there isn't too much else going for it beyond that.

  • Kate

What do you get if you have a half fae/half something else, a bitch of a sister, a best friend who is a witch/volva sorceress and a seer, a dragian warrior and an overprotective brother? Then it is a bloody good book.

Runa is one of 5 fae children. She is half fae/half something else. Her siblings hate her especially Octavia and it just so happens that on Samhein the portals are open and Octavia offers Runa a truce and to meet a dragian. Coincidence I think not.

Runa goes to meet Eric the dragian to tell him that Octavia won't be coming and lets just say that there is a slight misunderstanding. The black court wants Octavia and in her place Runa is to be kept a year to be passed around as a slave. Eric saves the day. This story is well written and I loved every moment of it. There were different worlds. The Wraith King, the Vampire Queen and artifacts to merge the worlds in to one.

There are a couple of scenes which some readers might find uncomfortable and shout wolf but take a step back to really think about that before jumping the gun.

    Read better

This is one of those stories that I almost liked, but it falls short for me.

    Here's why:

Poor pacing: I skipped quite a few pages because I was bored out of my mind through the second half of the book

Too many species: Dragon-men, fae, vampires, witches, brownies, God guardians, think there were shifters and Ring Wraiths too. I might have even made an appearance. The problem was that at times I wasn't sure who was what, why that was important and who I was supposed to like. I needed a better focus.

Too much with too little: see above. If the focus was better, I think I might have cared more about the characters.

One dimensional: only one character actually showed growth and he's not a main character. The rest were annoyingly either good or bad and the only growth you see is superficial.

What's love got to do with it: I didn't actually like the love story. It's partly to do with the characters themselves and partly to do with the telling of their story. It was trite and a bit too easy. If we're not going to do much with it then I prefer that it's not used at all. However, it's actually central to the story so I sort of need to buy into it and I simply didn't.

Borrowed Casserole: This is a mishmash of a lot of different stories, myths, and plots. Nothing is really new, but I'd hoped that I couldn't actually name the different elements.

Overall, I just wasn't impressed. It's a solid enough read, but missing the vital spark.

I devoured this paranormal romance in a day. A word to the wise, don’t read this during your lunch break at work. It was quite embarrassing to explain why I had to sit on a bucket of ice for the rest of the day. Oh yes, there is some sort of delicious in this book.

Read the description and other reviews here.

Aside from the jaw-clenching sex scenes, I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of emotion felt as the reader. That is typically a quality I find lacking from many erotic novels. I could feel Rune’s fear, betrayal, and lust during the first half of the tale. I couldn’t wait to read more.

Unfortunately, I felt the road split and become a bit foreign from the first half. I felt the love story was quickly consummated (for a lack of a better term) and the plot gave way to a complicated journey. Suddenly a ton of characters are thrown at you and stirred into a rushed, detailed conflict. Imagine your favorite soap opera mixed with Lost and played on fast-forward. Understandably, the confusion made me lose interest toward the end.

I paid $7.19 via my Kindle on Amazon. Although, I did enjoy the read, I wouldn’t have paid that price tag. This was my first Aline Hunter book and it won’t be my last. I’d give book a read if you are looking for a steamy, fun read that reads a touch like Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark…and don’t mind paying over $7 for it.

  • Stacie

Man... This book was intense. There were times I thought it would a solid 5, but then I got confused about the plot and all the different characters. Plus the slave band was a big downer for me. No one should ever has their will taken away even if the person taking thinks it's for the person's own good. But I guess it played out well. All in all though, I really liked this book. After Eric was done being so dense I liked him a lot. Rena was a good character too. Although I wish she had been able to use her fighting skills more. Byron was the best and I hope he eventually gets his own book. Nox too. Happy reading!

  • Kay

I love this author (& her alter ego JA Saare). Her words always comes across so smoothly in her writing. Just as it did in Eternity and a Day. I really enjoyed this story and all of its characters. I loved how the scenes unfolded & the steaminess of the romance. I look forward to reading the next book of this series.

  • Angarad

An very wide fantastical world but lacking true description and explanation. I was feeling a bit lost in among all the different species and myths.
As for Runaway and Eric, apart from the fact that they were destined to be together, I didn't feel any spark between them, no hot passion and undying love. The story itself was ok but could have been phenomenal.

This was my first time reading this author and it was okay read. Runa a mortal half fae woman who's been extremly sheltered she can be killed easily unlike her immortal full blooded fae siblings. Thanks to the manipulations of her evil sister she gets thrown into the Otherworld where she's completely unprepared and learns she's the fated chosen of Eric Locke a dragon, who's species happens to be old enemies of the Fae. Eric doesn't care about history or Runa's mortality. All he knows is that he wants her Runa is very attracted to Eric but her time in this world is limited and she doesn't want to bind herself to Eric knowing that upon her death Eric will die too. What they both don't know is that Runa is more than just a half Fae woman and there are other immortals out there who want her too. This book had a lot going on in it but I found it to be long at times. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

  • Antoinette Lewis

I enjoyed this book. I hope Byron finds Octavia and I hope that Lucian realise that V is his Chosen.

I think there should have been and introduction to the otherworld and the different courts. It was like being thrown into a world and have to figure out everything.

    EXAMINATION
Runa Charon is all dressed up for the Samhain Ball, certain that this could be her year to win, when she is waylaid by her scheming sister, Octavia. A man waits for Runa, and she must go meet him, and then Octavia drops the big bomb: the man is a Draigen. One of the beings that can only travel between the human world and the Otherworld during Samhain. It's a chance for Runa to meet a very tempting creature.

Only the creature is Eric Locke, and the only fey that he wants to meet is the criminal Octavia, so that he can bring her back to the Otherworld to face judgment for her crimes. Mistaking Runa for her sister, starts the two on a journey that will introduce Runa to the dangers of the Otherworld. Though she is half-fey herself, she is burdened with mortality, and has been sheltered by her celestial guardian and brother.

Now, she is the disputed property of a Draigen, whose kind mates for life, and cannot exist without the one who is made mate. After barely surviving her first night in the Otherworld, Runa has no trust for Eric, and she knows that staying with him condemns him to a mortal lifetime. He will have to move heaven and earth to prove that they belong together, for eternity.

The first that I heard of this book was from Twitter. It seems that I am getting more and more of my book recommendations from there, and from reading book blogs. It has opened my mind to books that I might not have found otherwise, and even if I had seen/heard of (in the case of ebooks like this one) the book, I might have been more hesitant to jump in. However, the author herself ( JA Saare, writing under a pen name) has a great personality, and she tweets about her own life, not just using Twitter as a solely self-promotional tool. I've found that the more I like an author in his/her tweets, the more I'm likely to like their writing.

ETERNITY AND A DAY was a departure from the type of urban fantasy that I have read lately, in part because it is adult, not YA, but mostly because I decided to blog about an erotic romance. This is a genre that I read in my own time, but have never featured on my blog in a full-fledged review. All I can say is that I am very happy that this novel was one of the first that I read for the blog.

Hunter introduced many characters in this book, the two main characters being Eric and Runa. But, my appetite was whetted by several minor characters that were featured. I was really interested in finding out more about the brother that protected Runa throughout her childhood, with the help of Runa's guardian. Some of Byron's past is alluded to, but I personally need to know more. Like right now! He is an immortal being, but somehow Byron has compassion and love toward his mortal sister. Unlike Octavia, the sister who sets her up for capture, Byron tries his best to keep Runa from the being a part of the atrocities committed in the fey courts.

I have a pretty high comfort zone when it comes to violence and fear, as well as gore. So, the fight that occurs near the beginning of the story, where Runa's mortality is discovered by Eric, could certainly be slightly disturbing to some readers. I thought that it was very well-written because of the impact that it had on Runa. Not just because it revealed her inability to heal herself, but because it showed the amount of damage that a fey could potentially take, and the Otherworld creatures wouldn't even consider it making an impact. The Otherworld is a rough place, and Hunter establishes this in the beginning.

I could say something about the first sexual encounter that Runa and Eric have. I think that it is another part of the novel that would challenge a reader and their comfort zone. Again, as with the rest of the novel, I was amazed at the language and writing. Even the dialog contributed greatly to the emotional aspect of the situation. If I hadn't been moved or affected, I would say that the author had missed out. But, Hunter pegged everything. I felt uncomfortable with the use of a certain band. Not that it was used at all, per se, but that it figured so greatly in the very first time that Runa was with a man. But, be it a love scene or a fight scene, there is no denying that Hunter has a great talent for storytelling.

    My Examination Results:
    4.5/5 for plot
    4/5 for characters
    4.5/5 for language

    13/15 Highly Recommend

First half was good. Very interesting and driven. However I had to force myself to finish the second half. As soon as the heroine is at the heroes home it was pretty much a downhill slide that reached a plateau of boring.

    Denise’s Review

Samhain. Warring races. Mistaken identity. Fated lifemates. What could possibly go wrong?

I have been a fan of Aline Hunter, also known as J.A. Saare, since reading her stellar urban fantasy Dead, Undead, or Somewhere in Between. Naturally, upon learning she had penned a new erotic paranormal, I was first in line to gobble it up.

I also must confess that once I have read something stellar from an author, I have slightly higher expectations upon reading their other books. I already knew what this author was capable of doing with words, plot, and characterization; therefore I feared judging her newest book harshly if it fell short of my grading curve.

Friends, Eternity and a Day didn’t just meet my expectations; it blew them out of the water. I wasn’t prepared for the complexity, the numerous interesting characters, the fantastic dynamic between feisty Runa Charon and fierce, alpha Eric Locke. Nor was I prepared for the intense world-building or the imaginative mythology. The writing is sharp and witty, the characters so vibrant they practically popped off the page. This has the making for a very good series, and I do hope she continues. There were too many supporting characters in this book demanding their story be told to leave it where it is.

If you’re looking for a fast-paced, involved story with fascinating characters—not to mention sex scenes so hot you might want to read them in the cold shower—do yourself a favor and read Eternity and a Day. You won’t regret it.

I need to point out first and foremost that I do not usually read this genre as I am more of an Urban Fantasy type of gal but I was gifted this book by the author in a competition ages ago and finally got around to reading it. I absolutely love her "Rhiannon" series so this book was abit of departure from that but still enjoyable. I liked Runa as a character because despite everything she was a fighter and did not give up when the deck was stacked against her. There was plenty of action scenes and steamy sexcapades to keep you interested though I felt Eric was a bit too Neanderthal at times regardless of the fact that he was a Draigen. The fight scene was disturbing in the bar where he succumbed to the pressure from his brothers and watched Runa fight for her life. Even though he thought she was immortal, it just did not sit right with me and I thought he should have fought with her at least. More dialogue on sorting through their issues would have been good as I felt it was just glossed over being the fated Chosen mate but that is just my personal opinion. An engaging read and for those of you that like a little supernatural with your steamy love interests then this book is perfect for you.

Yep, it seems that when comes to Paranormal stories with lots of hots scenes, Aline Hunter can deliver!

This time she takes us to the fae world.
Runa is half human and half fae, and she is seen like a lesser being by the other fae (especially her sisters) that keep trying to kill her. Still, she was sheltered all her life but she also learned how to defend herself, especially in the fae world of lust and depravity.
In a twist of fate, she goes to see a Draigen but she is mistaken for her sister, and brought to the dark court.
But it seems that the Draigen Eric, against all prejudices, is drawn to her and quickly she realizes that Runa is his mate. And Draigen mate for life...but how an immortal can be bound to such a breakable mortal?

If you're looking for an action packed paranormal story, with hot scenes, add this one to your TBR list.
    Oh yeah...

Reading the synopsis, this book had all the workings of a great piece. This was a self-published book and it undeniably shows. The writing was acceptable, but it needed substantial editing. There were scenes that were purposeless and others that were not appropriate with the flow of the story. The pacing was completely off and I could see where sections needed to be reshuffled.

As I finished the book I could see there were several plot holes in the main story line. The author had great concepts, but there were too many thoughts thrown together and the vital ones felt incomplete. The backstory of both plot and characters needed much more work and context. These characters were generic and I've seen the same types countless times in numerous books, but usually the author pushes me to fall in love with the main couple. In this case the cast were one-dimensional and not one stood out to me. I had no interest in the duo and the supporting players were nothing to write home about either.

  • Melissa

This series is considered erotic, but there is much more here. To me this was more UF and fantasy with a side of erotica. So, I enjoyed it more than I usually do with this kind of genre. I often want more plot, more world building and not just the smexy and you get it with this book.

I did enjoy Eric (dragon shifter!) but there were times when I wanted to kick his arse. Yea, a common problem with a lot of alpha males, but he does recognize when he is an arse and he does try his best to rectify it by giving Runa control of the relationship until she is comfortable. They also have a lot of smexy times but it doesn't run over the story.

My fave characters are actually the secondary characters. In fact Runa's brother and best friend seem to have a bigger role than expected. I would love to read their stories. Still, in some ways they outshined our couple in this book but not so much I didn't enjoy Runa and Eric's romance.

I enjoyed this first book in the series and I give this book 3 1/2 stars. I recommend it to those who enjoy fantasy with a side of smexy. :)

Runa Charon is a half-mortal, half-sidhe who has led a very sheltered life. She is the only half-mortal in her family, with an uninvolved father, sisters who hate her and a brother who adores her. Her sister Octavia tricks her into meeting with a Draigen, Eric, who is supposed to deliver Octavia to answer to crimes of transporting daemon artifacts through realms. After the mistaken identity is cleared up, Eric refuses to turn her over to the king, and decides to keep her. After an altercation at a bar, her brother finds her and transports her home. In the meantime, Eric has realized she is his Chosen, and works to get her back.

This is a fast-paced, entertaining story with a lot of action and colorful characters and creatures. There is a sense of humor written into the story, along with some very sexy scenes between Eric and Runa. I don't read much PNR, so I sometimes had trouble keeping everyone straight, but the book definitely kept my interest, wanting to know what happens next. I highly recommend this read!

  • Claire

If you’re looking for a fast-paced, involved story with great characters and hot sex scenes then read this book. You won’t regret it- especially if you already love the 'Immortals after dark' series by Kresley Cole-
I love books about finding their fated mate- and this one fit the bill.

The Main characters worked perfectly! Eric was strong and manly but also knew when to be loving and caring. Runa was Strong, ballsy, sweet, innocent and delicate all at the same time.
Aline balanced these traits very well

The only difference in this book from most others is that they bonded their relationship quicker than most books and then the book took a bit of a different direction, which I didn't mind but there were a few extra characters suddenly thrown into the mix which I wasn't able to follow properly. I almost wrote down the characters on some paper to try and remember them lol.

I look forward to reading the 2nd installment when it comes back out.

  • Lisa

This is my first book by this author and I admit that I am impressed. The story-line is intense and a lot more raw and explicit than what I usually read but was a nice change.

There are a great number of mythical characters in the book with different abilities and motivations. I felt at times that I was reading a book in the middle of the series which was the only real drawback with the novel. I felt like I needed more background into the characters, who could do what and why, and how they knew each other. The blanks were filled in along the way to some extent but I think the whole picture will emerge slowly throughout the series.

Eric and Runa are a Fated couple so their love story is all but guaranteed. Despite this, they do have their problems to overcome along with an unknown danger that threatens to tear them apart. Because of this, the romance is still center-stage and a fun to read.

  • Anna

Draigen Eric Lock and half-fae, Runa Charon come from very different worlds... Eric has one job on Samhain -- transporting a law breaking fae's between realms. This Samhain things aren't going the way Eric expected. First he learns that he has taken the wrong fae and that this particular creature, beautiful Runa... is his mate.

I loved this story! Runa is the type of character that grips your heart. She's not treated very well by her family members, and you'll find yourself rooting for her from the beginning. In walks Eric, the sexy draigen. Commanding and sweet, he's exactly what Runa needs in all ways. Eternity and a Day is an enticing story. A wonderful read with high energy and sizzling hot scenes. I love the flow and pace of this story. With romance, fantasy and paranormal elements... there is something for all readers.

I am a fan of this Author, so even the parts of this book that initially were a negative for me turned into a positive when I saw what she did with it. For example:

Love the world in this story, loved the Characters, and can not wait for the next installment!

This book has a little of everything: magic, fae, dragons, demons, witches, and 2 lovers fated to be together. The book is basically split into 2 story arcs, but they converge for the grand finale. The first story is about Eric and Runa, falling in love despite crazy circumstances. This alpha male actually makes several mistakes with his chosen mate, so we get to see how he grovels for forgiveness. The second story arc involves several side characters related to the heroine, and they are all trying to save her or each other. The world building, characterizations, dialogue are all fantastic, plus the sex and times leading up to it are hot. The author is a wonderful writer, I've read the majority of her books and not been disappointed yet.

Loved the story. I had never read this author before and got it as a freebie. Could not put it down. I hated putting it up for this little thing called sleep. Great story of Eric a Dragon and Runa, part mortal, part fae. It has the twist and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. A small case of mistaken identity brought the two together only to discover that they were meant to be together for all time. But would one be willing to give up their life for the love of their life. *dreamy sigh* Loved it, would recommend it to my friends and I would definitely re-read it! I can't wait to check out her other works.
