Fullmetal Alchemist, Vol. 5 (Fullmetal Alchemist, #5) Reviews

GREAT again! I love the art and the characters so much! Some of the little ongoing jokes are so adorable and funny- Edward raging when he gets called short and Alphonse with his list of things he wants to do when he is no longer a suit of armour. God I love this series!

"The spirit becomes memories, living in the minds of people. Everything changes the sames as with human life.".
This series is amazing and I wish I owned the other twenty volumes already. The fifth volume of Fullmetal Alchemist focusses on the miracle (and tragedy) of human life - it is easily created yet also easily lost. This volume also sees Winry grow into a more all-round character and introduces some more kick-ass ladies. I cannot wait to see more of Ed and Al's journey.

Is she broken?
No, honey, she's dead.
But Mrs. Izumi, you can fix anything, right?
Menny, life is not an object, and I'm not a god. Chiko had a life, just like you do. But Chiko's life has stopped and will never return. I can't give Chiko back her life... but I can make her a grave.
I like this series, but I haven't been nearly as into it as my friends are. But I REALLY liked this one. It introduced some fantastic new characters, Winry delivered a baby like a boss, and I am so in love with Izumi and her husband it's not even funny. This is the first time I read one of these and immediately picked up the next one. -
This was a great volume as the trinity go to Rush valley which is the mecca of Prosthetics and we meet this girl Paninya and she has taken Ed's watch and they chase her and meet the family of Ridel and his wife Satera and there they help deliver a baby and Winry trains under someone next. Its such a great part as its a breather and shows the sanctity of life and beauty of birth and from there they go to Dublith to meet their teacher and we see their history with their teacher and all that entails there.
This was a good one and helps flesh out their characters, building up the past and showing their dark origin and I like how it balances dark and light sides of the manga. Also great character growth for Winry. She is really coming into her own as a character and I am loving the art here! -
Winry Rockbell, a prosthetics engineer and potential love interest for our hero, takes center stage for the first half of the volume before we veer into the start of an Elric Brothers origin story.
As always, Arakawa is great at writing character bits. As I know from Silver Spoon, her one fault may be the sheer number of side characters she introduces and constantly brings back. Things are manageable so far with a villain group, a military group, and now an extended family (genetic and chosen) group for the Elrics.
The series is definitely getting into its groove now, and I have requested another stack of six volumes from the library. -
i love ed and al even more with every single volume <3 i was genuinely so happy reading this because i simply adore them. also i loved that we got a better insight into their history/childhood at the end!!

Volume 5, I still love it. It doesn't tread on the main storyline but this still is a necessary volume for character development. FMA, despite its originality still has the usual badass teacher trope we have seen and read in countless anime and manga.
The philosophy about life is rich in this book, simplified yes, but still gives you something to think about.
Winry also did shine in this volume and I really, really wanted to see what would happen to her. -
Love the backstory! And that cliffhanger has me literally reaching for the next one
-
Why are you the one who’s crying?
You and Al never cry... so I’m crying for you.
cada que ed y al tienen flashbacks se me sale una lagrimita quien me manda a ser tan sensible -
Ooohhh!!! The start of some backstory. Well, this shall be interesting!

Beautiful volume!
I really really loved seeing Edward and Al experience seeing life come into the world and their joy in knowing a new life would be born. I thought it extremely touching and love how Edward and Al’s teacher reminded them to be proud of their lives because that’s how they came into the world too. Wonderful and moving message with lots of humor (and panic) woven in through all those scenes!
The opening chapter was SO fun to read and thought it really awesome that Winry came with them on this new adventure! It was amazing seeing so many people having auto-mail and it truly being a norm in Rush Valley!
Another fun part of this volume is meeting Edward and Al’s teacher!! She is AWESOME! I don’t know what I expected when meeting her, but she is totally cooler then anything I thought she might be! My heart did go out to her though as Edward and Al were sharing about seeing a baby born and asking her one specific question that leads me to believe she has experienced much pain in the past. *sobs*
And speaking of pain, we are seeing the beginning story of what led Edward and Al to where they are and I can already feel that I’m not ready. Also totally with Edward and Al that I DON’T like their Dad already!! I know he is on one of the hardback covers and I’m already not looking forward to seeing him. LOL!
Another fantastic volume!!
Oh! I’m also glad to get the watch reference for the first time!! That was so cool!! Even though that was a lot sadder then I thought it would be! 😭 -
Ljubav za Vinri, Paninju i dublju priču o braći.

I don't know what else you're expecting me to give this ...

A detour to meet a legendary mechanic allows us to better understand Winry's determination and kind-hearted nature. The story also sends the Elric brothers to their teacher who learns staggering news about the two brothers and what they've been up to. This volume begins the journey down memory lane through flashback sequences that exposes the brothers' childhood and what occurred to their parents.

Laughed out loud quite a few times in this volume. Loved the circular nature of life and death too, probably one of my favorite volumes so far.
-
I decided to give it five stars from the first 50 pages!!😂amazing!

I feel like this is where the story picks up for real - going away from the main plot for a while, the future concerns, instead drifting back into the past and the origin stories and the brother's alchemy teacher. There's some good life lessons here, and heartwarming moments, and Rush Valley is the first reasonably imaginitive fantasy locale in the series.
It's also the first time, I think, where the anime did genuinely worse than the manga. I didn't much like its need for having Izumi outright hunt down her students, nor the additional angst to Winry. Why am I constantly comparing this to an anime that I haven't seen in more than fifteen years? Don't know.
Anyway, it's good. The best so far. -
This volume's character gushing is devoted to Winry Rockbell.
Oh, Winry. Girl-next-door, wench with a wrench, childhood friend to the Elric brothers, and blushing love interest for Edward...if only either of them would admit to it. A dedicated automail mechanic, in the tradition of her grandmother, Pinako, and inclined to minor medical treatment in homage to her doctor parents.
Having had her own share of tragedies, she remains positive and cheerful, caring and sensitive, and quick with a wrench to the skull if you dare cross her the wrong way. What's not to love? Sure, she almost shot somebody once, but she got over the impulse. -
This manga deals in a very good way with the idea of how sacred a human life is, whether through witnessing a woman giving birth, or dealing with the whole "bringing people back from the dead" thing.
I loved seeing more of winry in this volume, and I loved the extensive details of the two brothers' background and past, and what they went through. -
I'm quite a bit further ahead with the FMA: Brotherhood anime so for the most part it's nothing new, but I just really love this series so 5 stars from me : " )
I think I'm getting close to the Greed parts... Which is good bc I love him. -
Tons of backstory...and Winry ❤️ You go girl!

Even though there wasn't any action in this one I really enjoyed it!
