From the authors of Weird N.J .—with more than 125,000 copies sold—comes a second amazing collection of the wonderful weirdness that fills every inch of the Garden State. One of the bestselling books ever to hit New Jersey was Mark Sceurman and Mark Moran’s Weird N.J . The book was such a phenomenon that it began a whole series of Weird state books, each one a bestseller. But the Marks, as they are called, always knew that there were more, bizarre stories lurking in their own home state. So back they went, camera and notebook in hand, to travel the highways and byways of New Jersey to chronicle more weirdly bizarre stories. And what did they find? How about the pathway of a doctor’s office paved with tombstones? Or a pumpkin-shaped house? Then there’s the Hub Cap Tree, the Birdsville Church (yes, a church for birds), and the bowling ball pyramid that graces one proud resident’s front lawn. Fun too are the haunted houses to visit, the ghosts to chat with, and the cursed roads to travel down. It’s all part of the long, strange trip known as Weird N.J.

The library didn't have volume one, or I would have started my reading there. But as these are collections, it doesn't really much matter whether you start with the first or second volume. Weird NJ magazine has been providing its readers with fantastic tales of some of the strange locations around the state for many years now. This collects some of those stories and presents new ones. Included are many reader tales of their experiences at some of the strange, spooky, and intriguing sites that NJ has to offer. From oddly beautiful castles to haunted graves, the beautiful photography and stories behind these places make this a great read. Facts are given where known, and urban legends are presented with a grain of salt. Recommended for New Jersey folks, and people that enjoy reading about strange and unusual places.

after reading so many of the other states' books that have come out since the first weird nj book, it was cool to be reading one again that had so many familiar things in it, like the old giant pabst bottle that used to feature in the distance along the garden state parkway, or stories of places in clifton a couple of miles from where i live.
i also enjoyed the new sections, featuring underground passages, "weirdos in the woods," and amusement parks.
BUT, in light of how great the first book was, and how good some of the others in the series have been, this one just didn't quite stack up as much. -
I read the first Weird NJ chapter by chapter with this one. And I have to say they are pretty close to each other. But this one gave more of a "small time" feel to it. For example the chapter on local legends had interviews and were not as nationally known figures. Also, they ditch the monsters and beast chapter and replace it with one about weird people in the woods. They also added a chapter before abandoned places all about theme parks, which I found VERY interesting. Overall, the book is good, but I wish they introduced different chapters such as the theme park one. It would of felt more interesting overall.

Another interesting and intriguing installment in the Weird collection. I like the way the editors provide information on various topics and histories instead of limiting the book to just one (ghosts, monsters, etc) like so many others do. This method provides a more well-rounded introduction to the weirdness of the region.

More N.J. weirdness. Plus, I wrote something in it.

Eh... not as good as Volume 1

Just finished this book and really enjoyed it so much. I learned a few things about NJ that I had never heard about.

Volumes in the Weird series are always fun reads but some are better than others. This one, a sequel to that which started it all, is among the absolute best.
