Shocked and disappointed. I ended up throwing away this book literally in the trash. I picked it up for a speech and debate clubs since one of the events our students compete in is Monologue. The first monologue I looked at was a bedroom scene. OK, not for our high school students. I then noticed the book is divided into age groups, by sex. The earliest age group was Teens to 20's. That's quite a spread, but whatever. The first 3 monologues were unacceptable because they had sexual content. I perused about 6 or 7 monologues not one of them was acceptable for our high school students. There may be some appropriate monologues, but I didn't have the time to look further.

I bought this books in the hopes of acquiring new content to use in my acting competitions. With a piece I found in this book, I won like 3 competitions taking home the gold. It's a necessity in my book.

Moving Parts: Monologues from Contemporary Plays by Nina Shengold is well written with diversity in age for all actors. Though it has a small portion for upper age groups, it is a very good read for all!

Couldn't find a monolgue that was worth doing. I sent it back. Maybe you'll have better luck or have different taste than me.

I bought this to look for scripts for speech. It has a lot of good stuff in it. It's not the best source for scripts, but it does has some usable things in it. Not the best, but worth it.

Finally, here is a book that is not filled with outrageous monologues. This book is filled with pieces that would be great for auditions. Unlike most books that claim to be diverse but center on a single theme this book delivers.

This book doesn't have a lot of weird monologues in it. I liked the variety of styles, and lesser known playwrights. These are some monologues they haven't heard!

the problem i found, is that it has mostly american monologues which are no good in an English accent. there are some good monologues but the wording is typically american.
