A ten minute play is a streak of theatrical lightning. It doesn't last long, but its power can stand your hair on end. This splendid anthology contains enough wattage to light up a small city. For in its pages, thirty two of our finest playwrights hone their skills on a form that has been called the haiku of the American stage. The plays that Nina Shengold and Eric Lane have collected in this volume range from monologues to an eight character farce. Eminently producible, ideally suited for the classroom and audition, Take Ten is a marvelous resource for teachers and students of drama, as well as a stimulating read for lovers of the theatre. Contributors include: John Augustine, Cathy Celesia, Laura Cunningham, Joe Pintauro, Mary Sue Price, Megan Terry, Jose Rivera, Romulus Linney, David Mamet, Jane Martin, David Ives, and many others.

I particularly liked this book. There are a good number of interesting plays. One in particular that stands out is Ferris Wheel. It is suitable for all audiences, perfect for the student actor or seasoned professional!

This is a great read for anyone interested in playwriting. Published in 1997 with plays written by now famous playwrights including Christopher Durang, John Augustine, Tony Kushner, David Mamet, David Ives, John Guare, August Wilson and , lends insight into how they may have begun their careers. There are some playwrights in this book unknown to me whose works are also wonderful and inspiring.

    Good for class studies.

Not impressed in the slightest with having a play refereeing to disgusting life style choices.

More than the average number of good plays for adult play reading groups. Eric Lane has a good eye as an editor.

If you enjoy 10 Minute plays, this is a keeper. Lots of variety here. The Philadelphia has got to be one of the funnies plays I've read. There were several that were fantastic, and some really great ones. This would be a great resource for small theaters.

I messed up by ordering this book as I was hoping that it was an instructional book on play structure. I didn't read the description correctly. I did find the copyright page instructional. I did study the play structure of several artists. It seemed lacking in some aspects. How to build the ave characters, how to make the play flow so that it kept the audience attention, just to name a few. I have written a short play and was looking for how to tighten the transtion from one character to another and from one place to another.

I had bought this book for some extra ideas in the classroom but as I perused through the book I wasn't happy with the bad language that was in there, so I returned it. I didn't think it was suitable for the classroom setting.
