Jenna “Hit it out of the park” with this delightful and informative children’s chapter book on the history and legend of Babe Ruth. The illustrations, think tank, and timelines all made this book pop. Her coverage of not only Babe’s rise to fame and high points in his life, but his struggles as well, let the reader “know” the boy, and then man Babe was. I highly recommend this book. Kudos, Jenna. Another great book by a first rate author.Keep the books coming.

My grands loved it

I really enjoyed this new biography of Babe Ruth. Author Jenna Grodzicki did a great job of showing that Babe Ruth was one of the greatest baseball players of all time, and he also was a person who made mistakes, learned from bad choices, and showed determination in becoming the hero that he was. From his childhood in Balti to his time in the big leagues, Babe made an impact. Readers in school, libraries, and homes will savor this story about a baseball legend.
I was lucky to receive an advance copy from the publisher. -

The Story of Babe Ruth, by Jenna Grodzicki is a well written and engaging biography. Grodzicki peppers the text with reflective questions, maps, timelines, and inspirational quotes. The illustrations (Ellen Surrey) are fun, and match with the text nicely. Grodzicki focuses mostly on Babe's accomplishments, but acknowledges some of his poor life choices, in a respectful and age appropriate manner. While young baseball fans will certainly enjoy this book, I believe it could pull in some "new to baseball" readers as well.
I especially enjoyed some of the reflective side bars for readers. Questions such as, "How can someone believing in you change your life?" gives young readers a chance to connect with the story in an intimate way. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and will be sharing it with both our local public library and our elementary schools. -
This biography of Babe Ruth is perfect for 2nd to 4th grade classrooms, public, and school libraries as well as for children's home bookshelves. I loved the sporadic "Think Tank" opportunities for readers to stop and think, to make connections to their own lives, and to analyze what they've read. Babe Ruth is a complicated character, but the author portrays his "rollercoaster" life with empathy. Jenna Grodzwicki also puts Babe Ruth into an historical context, adding helpful timelines throughout the book. This book is a "home run!"

This new biography of Babe Ruth is refreshing and engaging. Author Jenna Grodzicki showed Babe Ruth as one of the greatest baseball players of all time, and like the rest of us, he was a human being who made mistakes, learned from them, and with grit, became the hero that he was. Throughout his entire life beginning in Balti and through the big leagues, Babe Ruth made a tremendous on individuals everywhere. Readers of all ages will enjoy this story.

This clear, engaging, and easy to read biography on Babe Ruth by Jenna Grodzicki tells the story of someone who overcame adversity as a child to become one of the most famous athletes of all time. I didn't realize Ruth played until he was almost 40 (his knees!) and that he was a generous philanthropist who enjoyed helping children. I also learned that the Baby Ruth candy bar is NOT named for him, a misconception I had my entire life! Timelines, maps, beautiful illustrations by Ellen Surrey, and a fun quiz at the end all help make this a perfect present for any young baseball fans in your life.
