He does not have friendsthe two almond shaped neurons located deep in his brain have seen to thatbut his devoted mother and grandmother provide him with a safe and content life. Their little home above his mothers used bookstore is decorated with colorful Post it notes that remind him when to smile, when to say "thank you," and when to laugh.

Then on Christmas EveYunjaes sixteenth birthdayeverything changes. A shocking act of random violence shatters his world, leaving him alone and on his own. Struggling to cope with his loss, Yunjae retreats into silent isolation, until troubled teenager Gon arrives at his school, and they develop a surprising bond.

i usually don’t do so well with long books which are supposed to be the ones that stick with you, but really i have to say i can’t get this one out of my mind. it’s not one that drags on and on until something happens, everything is tied so smoothly and makes it easy to read in one or two sittings even. the bonds aren’t rushed and they make sense, there were also a lot of quotes i liked and found interesting in the sense there are some things you can easily describe by saying what it is, but the author describes these things from a unique perspective. its not simple nor complex, a good balance.

I really wanted to purchase this book when the English translation was released however I was always busy. As soon it arrived I was in love with how short the chapters were and how easy it was to read. My favourite book of all time and if you are currently in a book slum then definitely go for this book.
