Charlie's Good Tonight Reviews
-
Charlie Watts was a fascinating guy, a quiet jazz drummer working in the biggest rock band of all time. This book tells a lot about him, all his numerous foibles and eccentricities, and provides an overdue look at a truly unusual man. It fails, as do many 'authorized' biographies, to really dig deep into his personality, especially his failings and darker side. For instance, Charlie's relatively brief time as a heroin addict is given short shrift. Somehow the book deals with that period without even mentioning heroin or any other drug! It's worth reading if you are interested in Watts and his life, but don't expect too much.
Like some others, I found several pages in the wrong order. Not a big deal as they were all there. -
Mick: ' Charlie's good tonight, ain't he ?' Right off the 'Ya Ya's' album. I always remember that part. Well, the book tells us his upbringing and his addition to the Stones and then, album by album. It is a good read. If you already own 'Life' by Keef, then you need to add this book of Charlie to your rock library.

the book read well. lots of facts to learn from charlies story!

A most enjoyable light read. two quibbles. some pages in the 172 range are out of order. Also repeated Ronnie's untrue story of being at Hyde Park in 69. History tells us he was playing in Detroit that day with Jeff Beck. If you love Charlie you will want this book.

Great read. Great man. Great dresser. Good drummer. I enjoyed reading about the 'Quiet Stone' and had a really hard time putting it down. God bless Charlie Watts!

Wow what a book. Loved it even though I cried at the end. Had a crush on Charlie in the sixties. Never realised how loved he was and what a wonderful person he was.

I'm only half way through, but every page brings new revelations, things I never knew about Charlie, and provides and reasons why I miss him every day. A unique man, a superbly written book.
