Quite simply my daughters favourite book. I love the fact that the princess decides she would rather be a doctor and doesn't need saving by the knight. I love even that the knight decides he also wants to be in medicine and asks the princess if she will teach him what she knows. Zog also gets to break free of his stereotypical dragon role to become their flying ambulance with the support of his class teacher and all his dragon friends. A wonderful book to teach the young that you really can follow your dreams. And written in that wonderful Julia Donaldson style that keeps the little ones coming back to it again and again. Can't recommend this one highly enough!!And if that is not enough the Axel Scheffler illustrations are just fabulous. My favourite of all their collaborations.

As huge fans of other Julia Donaldson books we thought we'd give this a try. I was unsure if it would capture my 6 and 4 years olds from reading the description and looking at the pictures but we weren't disappointed!! This was an instant hit!! Great story, fab rhymes and the pictures are lovely. At the risk of adding spoilers I love that the princess isn't helpless and is a girl who knows what she wants. With a perfect blend of dragon and princess it's an ideal book for both a girl and a boy.

My son loves all of the Julia Donaldson books, so we got this for his Christmas Eve box (didn't have those when I was a kid), in time for the annual BBC Julia Donaldson show. This year they'd chosen Zog, the story of a hapless Dragon who comes good with the aid of his princess friend and a knight who end up teaming up as flying doctors. This continues in the follow up book which we already had.

Super book! Totally enthralled my 21 month old not as much as room on the broom though. The rhyming is ok, but mildly repetitive and not as successful rhythmically as many other books out there. We enjoy julia donaldson books in our house immensely but also feel many other less known writers are overlooked by her monopoly. The films that go with the series are infinitely better and one of the reasons why we've invested in some new JD books if other authors had such fame and such magical accompanying films they would no doubt rise beyond donaldson.

My daughter loves anything by Julia Donaldson and this storyline is one of her favourites
