The Foghorns Lament Reviews

Enjoyed this book especially having lived near the coast. Reminiscent of listening to the horns on foggy nights from my childhood. Strangely comforting sounds !

I have started to read non fiction and so many of them do not pass muster. This one in contast is a minor masterpiece and not to be missed if you have any interest in the unusual. The author manages to convey her interest in foghorns to the reader and in the end, you can only be amazed at the sheer research on the subject. This is also an oblique book about industrial music and one where she delves into the nineteenth century's origin of the genre. After all, who else would surreptitiously slip in a maritime reference to the Detroit wizards Drexyia, while writing about foghorns? A real book for obsessives and outsiders and I cannot recommend it .

This is a really good read. It's not just foghorns! It covers lighthouses and there keepers and good background on the sites. I enjoyed it.

A very well researched book about foghorn. Fascinating. Who would have thought?
