Dr. Pimental gives the latest research on microbiome. Read closely, it can change your life, it did mine. These authors are the foremost leaders in their field. Auto immune diseases, endometriosis, bowel obstructions, previous surgeries are addressed as factors that affect gut motility. Diet plays a major role in small bowel bacteria. Want , ORDER THE BOOK and read it slowly. I have given the book to 3 families who question what I eat on a low fermentation diet. Forget the suggestion of using the internet, it is not always a reliable source.

The low fermentation diet with all the white starch has issues for many with metabolic disease or who want to avoid metabolic disease as this is very common today. I am concerned such strictness can cause issues including orthorexia. I am impressed w the research done here but as its says in the book work needs to be done (hopefully) quickly for methane. The fact that you can not eat fibers like flax, chia, sauerkraut, brown rice, oats, is concerning. It does work for symptoms, but we need realistic solutions. The book has some excellent info in laymen's terms on latest research and discusses Western Medicine treatment (antibiotics/meds ) and via naturopaths. I like that he recognizes the natural approaches. It has an ok food section. Again I cringed at white starch (probably) much better for those w no risk of diabetes or IBS D (SIBO hydrogen).

Fleshes out the progress of IBS/SIBO science and lays out current best practices in treatment. Added a lot to my understanding and provided strong grounds for optimism.

    Clearly written.

Highly recommend Kindle version for notetaking and the ability to increase print size.

Ridiculously small font. Not much new info here unless you've literally never listened to Dr. Pimentel and never researched SIBO before. Also, when you do run across something of interest that you'd love to learn about, you get excited for a wee second only to be gifted a grade school simple and short explanation that tells you nothing much, other than you need to take that tidbit of vague, incomplete info and go attempt to research somewhere else. The most disappointing thing is the list of foods wholeheartedly incomplete (and, again, nothing you shouldn't already know) there are so many foods out there in the world so if you're looking for a book that will give you a exhaustive list of ok & bad foods, this definitely is not it. Last, there is no index! Like you want to look up a topic but you have no way to do that because there is no index or directory at all only a glossary of definitions in the back. I waited so patiently for this book and was so excited 100% disappointed.
