Full of helpful insights and includes practical exercises for understanding how we mask and how to avoid burnout. I wish this book had been out there years ago such good advice for navigating the social space with a new self understanding of being autistic that is backed by well informed research and the author's own authenticity. It will also be useful to anyone working with autistic adults, particularly late diagnosed women.

This is a well written, carefully researched and accessible book. There are personal examples of how masking is experienced by autistic people, which helped me identify and relate to the concept. It is carefully explained, in a style that is easy to read and professional. It is backed up with other research, all carefully cited and referenced. The exercises, many of which are from CBT, are simple and presented with good examples from the author's experience which shows how they can be used, and how they can help. In summary, this book helped in an ongoing process for me of self diagnosis, and gave me some simple and useful strategies that might help with issues that I experience. I am very grateful to Dr Belcher for taking the time to write this book.

I was expecting a lot depth and insight. I felt the book is very brief and high level. I didn't get any real understanding of the author and her experiences and it felt very clinical. It could have done with a lot real life examples of camouflaging and un masking. It felt like it started off as a science paper about camouflaging and then skimmed through the practical bits. If you've done therapy before I would doubt you would get a huge amount out of this book as the few techniques are pretty basic for anxiety e.g. mindfulness and relaxtion.

So simple and easy to read, I especially liked all the lives experience snippets throughout. It made me feel less alone.
