Lingo Mastery continues to be a valuable resource to make Swedish accessible to a wider population. Following in the style of Swedish Short Stories, this new volume of 1500 Swedish Phrases is full of new vocabulary to enhance communication. In the Introductory Note the goal is stated well: ‘Learning a new language is almost like opening a hidden door in your brain, which leads you straight into a whole new world! It changes the say you think and how you perceive things around you, not to mention that you could come to learn phrases and ways to express your self that might not even exist in your native language. Swedish is an interesting language to learn…With this book, you will learn how to handle a variety of situations in Swedish, no longer having to rely exclusively on English…most Swedes speak English…When you learn to speak read, write and understand Swedish, you will also, simultaneously, begin to understand the culture and its people in ways you didn’t before…The best way to learn a language is to dig all the way down to the roots in order to understand its foundation. That is what we are going to do in this book: provide you with the necessary tools for starting to speak Swedish…’

What follows, before the phrases that placed here to learn, is a fine lesson in pronunciation of vowels, consonants, combinations of letters, pronouns, the importance of stress and intonation, and then the supply of valuable lessons begins – colors, numbers, greetings, date and time, common questions, when someone is being rude, medical, ordering food, transportation, religious questions, emergency, technology, conversation tips, date night, money and shopping, children and pets, traveler’s guide, directions, apologies, answers, small talk, business, the weather, hotel, sports and exercise, the first 24 hours after arriving, the last 24 hours before leaving, – all spelled out in accessible format with Swedish to English translation to correct pronunciation for learning. And so it proceeds with one of the accessible adjuncts to mastering the Swedish vocabulary in a manner that places words in context and thus – easy to remember!

The technique is solid and the lessons well taught. This is a very fine continued introduction to Swedish – encouraging further enhancement of global languages! Grady Harp, August 21

I love all the Lingo books, and this is no exception. It goes into detail about pronunciation and grammar, which you can skip if you already know some Swedish. This book is for someone who wants to go into a little depth about spoken Swedish rather than merely looking up a quick phrase. So it's not good for that purpose. You'll have to acquaint yourself with the specific chapter say on travel or hotel or a doctor's visit or what not. Understanding directions are important for travellers, and the section on this could have been better. Same goes for the doctor's visit, but Swedish doctors all speak English. If you like Swedish, you'll enjoy this book.

So each chapter is a category such as color, number, date night, etc a total of 27 chapters each one category. the length of the chapter depends on the subject. the book starts you off with the pronunciation of each letter of the alphabet. The explanations of each letter and sample pronunciation are helpful. Then as you start each chapter you get the set of words with the word in English, then Swedish and then pronunciation. Afterward, you have a variety of phrases that incorporate the vocabulary. Same structure [ English, Swedish, pronunciation.] One of the better books I have found for Swedish.

This book is very thorough and a perfect starting point for any language learning beginner wishing to learn Swedish. It starts with the alphabet and how the letters are used and pronounced, making sure you have the basic tools to not only be able to read Swedish but also speak this beautiful language.

Each chapter starts with a topic such as colors, numbers, greetings, etc. or situations you may find yourself needing to communicate in Swedish. And it does a great job showing you common (or sometimes not so common lol) phrases and how to pronounce the words phonetically.

Overall, it’s an excellent book to add to your learning regimen and is highly recommended.

Easy to read and understand. It was very nice to have the phonetic pronunciations for the Swedish portions. I loved that this included a grammar lesson in the beginning that teaches about the alphabet. Basic level learning to help build a foundation. Very well written and thought out with lots of different categories of phrases. This would be a very great book for travelers that I would definitely recommend. I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

I really enjoy the Lingo Mastery series.

Fun ways to learn useful info, phrases and ideas no matter what the language

I have a family connection to Swedish, a language my grandmother and aunts spoke when I was a child.

After living in Germany for several years, I struggled a bit with some words, expressions and phrases as many are very similar to German and those that are different, and are not food or simple phrases from my childhood those bits are very different and confusing

This book reminded me once again about phrases, ideas, expressions and the many pronunciations that are different

I have often found in my travels that understanding money, numbers, basic goods and directions makes for much interesting shopping, eating and safer travel

This book can help you begin to discover those things and hrlp you laugh at the lighter hearted insights into the culture and cuisine

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This book is really useful! I am self taught in Swedish, and I found this book to be very useful regarding the most common phrases that can help you in conversation :) it is divided by sections so you can find the phrases you need easily, and it has a phonetics section to help you with pronunciation.

This book is effective, it does not dwell too much on theory, it gives you examples, lots of them in many different situations, dating, restaurant, common questions, business, answers,
You have the english translation first, which gives you the opportunity to do reverse translation, from english to the target language, very very effective way of learning, of checking one's progress.
It is very complete, there are courses that cost much and are less effective and well thought.
