From Staircase to Stage: The Story of Raekwon and the Wu-Tang Clan Reviews

Read this book in less than 3 days. I was in the 8th grade when I first heard “Protect Ya Neck” and I just saw Raekwon, Ghost, and the GZA on their 3Chambers Tour. So, I’m a lifelong fan. The book starts out a bit slow for me but like Cuban Links 1 and 2 things get good once you get really into the meat the record (book). The highlight for me was the story telling of when he and Ghost took time away to put put Cuban Links together and how the actual purple tape came about. I got chills reading that. And with any family, there’s going to be problems that everyone has their own view of. I’ve read U God’s book and some of the themes are exactly the same with the RZA. My take is it’s a double edge sword working with a genius like that who wants to control everything. But, for all the grievances both U God and Raekwon still give props to the RZA for orchestrating the whole thing. IMO they all needed each other in some shape or form to be successful. We could only be so lucky if other members start writing books. I could go on and on but for any lover of hip hop read this book.

I respect the honesty in this book. I always looked at Raekwon as a guy who was super confident to the point of being arrogant. After reading this, I understand his attitude and he was very vulnerable in the book. He acknowledged his flaws and told the honest to God truth about himself. I respect him for that and he’s a heckuva storyteller. Great read. I finished the book in a couple of days. Thanks for sharing and much success on all of your future endeavors.

I had no idea what to expect when I started reading this book. I knew that Raekwon was one of the illest emcees to grace the mic, and his music has had a profound impact on me, but to read his struggles as a man, and the stories of how he overcame them, how he grew, that was something I needed and could relate to as a man of almost the same age. To hear the roles he played in the building of the Wu dynasty, the Wu legacy, shows me what men need to be and do for themselves and other men. I’m greatful for this story, and hope I can use pieces of it to help the young warriors I work with become better men, husbands, fathers, and emcees. I think it is also providence that I just saw him, Ghost, and GZA for the first time last month when they performed their “3 Chambers” tour in Rochester. There are no accidents. (DJ K Mello, Rochester, NY by way of Brooklyn, nor and raised)

As a lifelong Wu Tang fan and music lover in general, I have been waiting on this one for years. For the first time, Raekwon the Chef tells HIS story, of history being made and becoming one of the most celebrated members of the Wu Tang Clan. If you love a good read that’s directly from the source, From Staircase to Stage is one you don’t want to miss!

First off, I was so excited about its arrival, that I cracked it like a 40. I didn’t put it down until it was finished. Raekwon has mastered the art of emceeing. MCs have become an endangered species. I encourage everyone to read this book. It is a coming of age tale, written from the heart, with gut wrenching honesty. It’s a rare opportunity for those outside of the boroughs and neighborhoods that built this great culture to see how it all began, something from nothing.

Insightful, reflective, but not gratuitously sensationalized. An authentic voice that schooled while entertaining. A story that needs to be told to the world and heard by those who need a second chance.

Bought this book by Raekwon 'The Chef' thinking it would make a great gift for my 87 year old Nana this Christmas. Imagine my frustration when it arrived today and I discovered it contains no recipes at all! Id have been better off with Jamie Oliver. Gave it to my Nana anyway and now she keeps calling me saying Wu Tang Clan ain't nuttin to F wit and how she now lives by the Ethos that Cash Rules Everything Around Her. Do not buy this book hoping for some succulent recipes like I did or you will be severely dissapointed

If you grew up on Wu, it won't take you long to finish this book and thats not a bad thing. Good insight from early days to present times.

A must have for any wu tang fan or fan of hip hop in general. This whole story is wild from start to finish, from Rae’s early life to the struggles with the Wu, Rae has been through a hell of a life.

The Chef is known for his ability to weave intricate tales of the streets into rhymes that have forever changed the palette of Hip Hop. With this book, he administers the same attention to detail he would with his rhymes and the result is a marvelous book.
