On Repentance And Repair: Making Amends in an Unapologetic World Reviews

Rabbi Ruttenberg, with clarity and compassion, lays out the urgency of a shift away from (only) apology and towards accountability. Rarely has a book been timely, or necessary, or ultimately hopeful.

Accessible, interesting, and deeply relevant

I received a digital pre print of this fantastic book by Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg, and immediately ordered a hard copy so that I would have the opportunity to spend time with this book and Rabbi Ruttenberg's words. Rabbi Ruttenberg brings a contemporary voice to our 2022 world, with all the attendant individual and communal healing that needs to happen in our lives and society. She is clear that she seeks guidance and takes comfort from ancient sources; we are not the first ones to have grappled with these questions. I really appreciated that her tone was curious and not preachy or prescriptive. Thanks for this wonderful resource, just in time for the (Jewish) High Holidays!

I loved this book! It takes the traditional Jewish wisdom on repentance and applies it to modern day situations, from the interpersonal to the institutional. Most of all, it lays out a clear difference between "making repair" and "asking forgiveness" that is really important in light of many of today's "non apology" public apologies.

Using sacred Jewish texts, Rabbi Ruttenberg presents her material in an accessible and meaningful way. A must read.

Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg gets to the heart of so many problems facing our world, and spells out the hard, but achievable work of repentance. Such an important book!
