Fodor's Bahamas (Full-color Travel Guide) Reviews

This wasn't what I'd hoped for. Basic info and not specific enough for me. Our trip was great but it wasn't because we relied on this book. Our resort provided the information we needed.

The small print is difficult at times. Restaurant and travel information is accurate. The maps of the cities is very accurate. Color photos are great.

It's a good choice for a multi island travel guide. It is nicely organized with an island culture intro. Answers good questions about currency, time, transportation and . As I am only treacle in to one island (New Providence) that is the only section I reviewed and I am pleased with it. Good selection of things to do ( free and of cost), beaches, places to stay, places to eat, etc. I'm glad I made the choice I did. Oh and it's small enough to slip in my purse for taking it out and about!

The write ups for Things to do, lodging and restaurants are very good. I especially like if there are Fodor recommendations. I sometimes felt that Fodor could have included selections. I cross check with some of the online travel sites, and their solid recommendations, that are positive, were not included in Fodor. Also wish that there were mid range selections, especially for lodging options. They either wrote about very expensive or low/moderate options, but fewer mid range priced options. Otherwise, provides a good overview for first time travelers to the Bahamas.

This is now my husbands and my go to brand of travel guides when we travel. We first bought one when we went to Grand Cayman and when traveling back to the Caribbean we knew exactly what to get. We particularly like the dining aspect and how it rates them on price; not only do you know what you can budget for but you also know they type of food to expect. The sites the guide provides are definitely the hot spots, don;t be afraid to venture out on your own.
This guide is broken down by island depending on where you are traveling and offers the same breakdown per island. Overall this is a great travel companion for any traveler.

There are no guides to the Exumas, but this had enough to be very useful. Skip the pigs. It's so touristy. There is so much to the small islands (not Nassau) than swimming pigs!

Bought this for our upcoming trip to Eleuthera. Lots of beautiful pictures and great advice.

OK for basics but a bit limited. A much older copy of the Lonely Planet guide which lent by a friend contained far practical detail (e.g. on health, drinking water what a basic bit of travel advice to leave out!) and historical detail. Felt this was written for tourists passing through (and mainly oriented to American visitors) rather than people with an interest in culture and history of the Bahamas
